Compare the amount of criminal activity in crypto to the amount of criminal activity linked to fiat/credit card/bank fraud etc.
Maybe start fixing those first and then look at the crumbs you can find in crypto.

Of course whenever there is money involvement, fraudstars will always find a way to make money out of it, its also happens in our popular fiats. This does not means that cryptocurrency is a bad thing. I believe in regulation and I believe that it appearance and involvement in new altcoins will bring a postive results to cryptos world. At least one does not get to be scammed easily.

It mentioned that "many people are afraid to use some cryptocurrencies because of the risks and lack of transparency."  Do you think there has to be a regulation of some sort?

I'm curious to the point "lack transparency". as far as I know, cryptocurrencies as the products of blockchain technology have a leading aspect in transparency. in fact, cryptocurrencies are not truly anonymous, but pseudonymous which means it is traceable with big effort by governments.
I think governments just don't adapt enough to crytos system.

Regulation is needed, but is it possible? to regulate something that even its original purpose was for freedom (especially in terms of anonymity and transparency)

I think the government can to create a regulation for criptocurrency, but it will not be able to arranged completely because as said by  olhawdy

If you think that there is a lack of transparency when it comes to a project, you have the freedom to neglect that project, there is no compulsion in investing in every project out there, regulations could be good on some levels, only good and genuine projects will come through and that is what we might see in the future.

Regulated crypto currencies is no different than government backed fiat. Why would you want to give the power of your money to the governments again? Bitcoin came to life because of these government regulations on our money.

Altcoin population is growing fast, but more people do monitor ICOs that are potentially belong to a group of scammers, we don't have regulations inside the system but when people do a crime and touches the law government take their action to punish who are caught and proven guilty, and everyone can report anyone who violate laws and engage into money laundering too.

Regulations are always way behind the technology , i don't even think the internet has all the regulations it needs. So i wouldn't expect some real regulations in the near future.

Serously? Are they expecting transparency to something that isn't regulated and anonymous? What everyone needs to know is that many are still lack of knowledge about what crypto's really are.

Yes, we need regulations even though what they are asking is/are something that's not really pointing out the real factor of a crypto still we need regulations, it's a must.

There will always be some unregulated crypto currencies. We do not need regulations.
We need regulations. Without regulations, the possibility to get lose will occur. Even the smallest unit of the institutions (the family), is always have regulations in order to guide each member of the family to act in accordance with right. Regulations can prevent criminal activities and if the government will just let the crimes to grow, citizen will suffer a lot.
As a crypto enthusiast and a citizen of a sovereign country, we need to follow regulation imposed by the government because we are living according to law and rights.

Why are you so convinced that these regulations have to originate from governments? A community and the institution of reputation may also deal with these issues.
Because government can impose regulation. They are the one who have the power to execute a law and regulation. Yes, anyone can make a regulation, he metioned that already when he was said that family who is the smallest unit of the society can make a regulation.
You are the one who confused on what he was talking about. Better to read triple times before your reply. That's all.

Whether we like it or not there will always be regulations and regulators. One great example for this is the KYC and SEC regulating exchanges. I also think that there will always be a bypass to the regulations, but I think there still has to be one in order to at least limit the bad deeds and shady acts where crypto are being used as a tool or a medium for it to succeed easily. I also think regulations will help make crypto market healthier.

This is just more FUD.

Like Pablo Escobar used cryptos 40 years ago for his activities. Those people are afraid to use it not because of the risk, but because of their own fears from the unknown.
