I use cgminer for LTC all the time, and don't have any problem using scrypt.

Reaper gives and Error 6 and Cgminer says it doesn't know what sCrypt is

Have you tried this guide for cgminer?  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/consolidated-litecoin-mining-guide-for-5xxx-6xxx-and-7xxx-gpus-117221

I have a 5850 mining rig. ASIC's got released. Now what do I do?
Litecoin mining - can't get it to work.
Namecoin mining - ASIC's can mine that too.

ASICs have not been released.  And likely will not be in the wild for some time.  (IMO.  Others will likely disagree with me.)

Why can't you get litecoin working?  What's the problem?
