What is the current hype to introduce these new "asic-resistant" algos like scrypt-n, scrypt-jane or X11. Is because scrypt-asics start to emerge and people start panicing?

I mean e.g. PrimeCoin has been out there nearly a year and there is not even a GPU miner yet.

Why are there so few PrimeCoin forks but instead there are these new algos?
