So many rushing to call it scam before spending 1 min to read.
I'm embarrassed (as newbie with bad English) to point out for you:

It involves a new design of the SHA-256 hash engines (inside the ASIC)
Simply:
This is a design solution for ASIC chip makers NOT a tweak for miner owners

I don´t believe these new domain/pages that promise an awesome power saving or a huge hash rate...

Domain isn't 10 days old. Probably a scam.

Software implementation with new algorithms to solve each hash can improve the hasrate for sure, is not impossible that current ASIC manufacturers could have a slow software compared to the advertised there but I would like to hear a comment from someone who already used/ bought it..

I mine because math
Am I misunderstanding something about this paper or is everyone else?

If I am interpreting this thesis correctly it has everything to do with the manner in which an ASIC chip is laid out internally and therefore the order in which it processes data, based on purely face value it certainly has some merit, but the manner in which this person is trying to sell this technology publicly on a forum/website instead of directly to a manufacturer who MAY actually be able to interpret/test this idea on a simulation or new run of chips is highly suspicious.

Please feel free to correct my if I'm wrong and this is software/firmware implementable, though I cannot imagine how changes to processing could be implemented any other way than designing/manufacturing a new ASIC containing this tech.

Anyone been able to try this yet? I tried contacting them yesterday, but haven't heard back yet.

Or as a lottery machine! Couldn't the same thing be applied to scrypt? I will run this S3 until it pops its clogs
EDIT: Reading the whitepaper, it seems unique to SHA asics?

given the current difficulty of mining bitcoins and the decline in profits that small mining groups are facing now I think that its perfectly agreeable that old miners have no use today except wasting both electricity and time.

Hi Hamuki,

thank you for your interest in AsicBoost. To give you pricing and the best information I would need to better understand what you are planing to do. Are you designing an ASIC or planing to do so? That is were adoption of the AsicBoost method starts, and we can assist in the design process as well (besides just providing the license). Let me know what you are planning to do and we can help.

Best regards,

Timo
I just got this reply, inquired from their website contact form. So no, i assume old miners are still trash!

On the other hand, we never should forget what date it is today...

*edit* Peter Todd just confirmed that this thing is for real.

Don't think it is a scam. Timo Hanke is well known, and the white paper makes - as far as I understand it - sense.

The main question will be how responsible he's selling the license...
If it is true, then many will already be using it, and the others will follow.

You can probably increase your profitablility for a few weeks, before the difficulty rise gets everything back to exactly how it was before!

I don't think many are using it, for he just put it in the dev-list today and patenting is pending. So it wouldn't make a lot of sense to make the infrastructure ready, before an ASIC-producer starts to implement it in new chips - although this assumption only is valid, of course, if I understand the whitepaper correctly.

I guess all depends on the pricing... If the price for the licensing is too high, this can be bad news...
