wow, difficulty just screws it over doesnt it?

Yeah, that's the trick, isn't it -- trying to buy enough hash at a good enough price to make some money before difficulty increases.

Be careful who you buy from -- lots of scammers out there.

Not sure if that blade will pay off or not.  But if you're buying it, do it right away.  It might not work out as a money maker, but if the value of bitcoin stays up, you probably will still be able to reseller the hardware for a decent price later.  Might be worth it as a learning experience as well (getting your feet wet, so to speak).  Lots of new hardware allegedly coming online in the February/March/April timeframe that will likely push the difficulty way up again (driving down returns), but there are still a couple months until then.

If you're interested in the technology or want to get a feel for what mining is all about, absolutely. If you're in it just to make money, not so much. The next gen miners will kill its earnings within. 3 months.

thats crazy.... Any alt coins that will turn profit?

Approximately with today data it will produce per Month: BTC 0.168 = USD 165.70, in the specs for their blade they recommend the HP DPS 800GBA power supply which is a 1000Watts, 5Amps is quite alot and expensive to run 24/7.

You can Calculate here http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator

But you can only guess how fast the Difficulty Factor grows.

Hey everyone, I'm planning to buy a block erupter blade for around 500. It takes up about 80 watts and needs fans, so I'm guessing on around 550. If that thing mines at around 11 GHash/s, how long will it take for the numbers to even out with today's numbers of $700-1000 per bitcoin? Also please put the calculator you were using so I could use it for further refrence.
