What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.
It has been said over and over again in this forum that your seed phrase back up should be stored in three different location far from each other. Just like the flood at Maiduiguri , it didn't affect Lagos or River state which means that it is only your seed phrase in Maiduguri that will be lost and you can get your other backups to access your wallet.

The reason behind this is that, natural disaster cannot happen in all the stats in a country at the same time, otherwise all most all the citizens would be affected. As for the internet, it would be fixed later and that shouldn't be a problem. The first thing anyone that finds himself in such disaster should do is to rescue himself and his phone first before any other thing because the rest would be taken care of if you have your seed phrase backed up in different location.
It's idea to have your seed phrase stored in different locations d much okay but no be peso wey get different locations as their own home go think of having their seed phrase stored in different locations. As I d now, I d live in southern part of Nigeria. I have no other house or rented apartment in other states that I go talk say em d under my custody apart from the one I am occupying currently. Will someone begin to advice me to travel to other states to rent an apartment over there to have my seed phrase stored over there because of issues like this(natural disaster)

This different locations ideas requires money to have it done. Someone seed phrase no be wetin you go begin rent house for or begin to think of having it kept in someone else house, you are a visitor to. Reason am.

However, nobody d pray for bad thing to happen but there are things wey peso no fit do easily even though the idea given to them d okay and legit. As many of us dey here, our seed phrase no d far from our reach even though it is hidden in different places, in our apartment.

In regards to the issue of considering our wallet passphrase and secrets, I will suggest we look for somebody we trust and tell them our passkeys and passphrases. I said this because our life is not in our hands. Nobody is praying for bad things to happen but life can be uncertain in regards to this, that's why it is good for us to look for somebody we can trust and hand over the details of our Bitcoin wallets Incase anything happens.
Remember if you die it is over and if nobody has access to your assets it will be bad and a wasted effort.
So I suggest we look for somebody we can trust and tell them our codes, keys and passphrases.

I will say that you first read more carefully on the reply made by this user Antotena from the quoted post below, i think that should answer your question.

Now in addition to what had been given already, i will employ that we shouldn't be careless form how we handle things, even when we are using the safest storage materials and we couldn't maintain a good privacy and security measures, we may have to risk losing it all to another person, before we can ensure our keys to someone, then we have to be rest assured that they worth having access to it, as well as when we experience any funny show from them, we will count it an experience from within.

However, I think back up means to be backup. Just because you are expected to back up something doesn't mean one had to throw away or be careless about the origin. As you protect your seed phrase in another location, so is your responsibility to safe keep this particular one in your hand.m, the back is just to give you hope incase it got stolen or not found so that we don't have to cry later in this kind of unfortunate situation. Lets all he safe this raining season.

Fine by Time
There is saying that unless God watched over a city the watch men watched in vain. In my understanding is that we have to put every effort to make sure our keys are fully secured by adhering to the guidelines of security. And from time to time, we should keep checking where we store our keys to find out if everything is okay with it whether it is a hardware device or in written papers. Anyhow we do it, we put in our best and let God do the rest for us. Sometimes there are things we can't stop from happening but praying to God for full control over it can change a lot.

Natural disaster fears no man. When it comes it will wipe anything that comes into its path. And that is why everything that was meant to be safe before was lost on one day or a few weeks.

Personally, I've got my own pattern of securing my seed phrases from time immemorial. I run my local server myself and encrypt my seed phrases using a secret key and write it to another file. I then upload it online to my drive.

I don't care for it getting compromised or not because I'm 70% sure you can't decrypt it without the secret key and the secret key is known by only myself. What I store offline is the secret key and you'll never guess it's off such importance when you'll see it.

Whatever happens, I'll still get access to a computer and collect my encrypted data from my drive online or offline and still decrypt it locally in an air gapped and clean PC and everything returns to normal. I gat no worries at all for any disaster.

Even if I'm no more, my siblings knows where to get the drive and do the decryption themselves. I've taught them what they should know.

The essence for creating this thread is for us to ask ourself again on how prepared we are for the worst to happened, also, its time that we begin to review on the kind of environment that we live in, ensuring not to be riverine area or close to dam, because the latter rains are falling heavily and causing flooding in so many countries now.

Why not ask yourself this, if you're in Maiduguri or Bangladesh to experience flood like these.

What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.

This Maiduguri flood really touched my down because no place in Maiduguri this flood never entered and imaging if someone has started and then back up seed phrase on such kind of location, by now it's assumed the location has been compromised by running water, no way it's going to be difficult to found again because if water could move how, how do you think it's not going to move your seed phrase back up on metallic plate, it will be difficult to track.

However, I think back up means to be backup. Just because you are expected to back up something doesn't mean one had to throw away or be careless about the origin. Most times natural disasters happen when we least expect them, on few occasions it can give us signs that it will happen but most times it doesn't. As Bitcoin holders one of the most important aspect is the security of our seed phrase, without it the person's coins can be lost forever and you can not hold anybody responsible for it.

The flood disaster that happened in Borno, state, should be a reminder to every Bitcoin holder that no matter how safe they keep their seed phrase that it can still be lost. During severe disasters when you are fighting to safe your life and go to a secured place, looking for your seed phrase that might be displaced will not be a priority at that time. A lot of risks are associated with the safekeeping of seed phrase, hiding it from criminals, fire disasters, natural disasters and not saving it online because of hackers.

No matter the method that you choose to hide your seed phrase whether you write it on papers or engrave it on steel plates the most important thing is to secure it in more than one location.

Natural disaster is a terrible occurrence that causes a lot of damage.Lives, animals, roads and important documents are destroyed by natural disasters. In the crypto space, crypto enthusiasts are advised to keep their private keys and seed phrase safe from any form of destruction.
Everyone knows best how to keep their valuables safe, for the fact that it doesn't get destroyed after the flood.I have an idea to share concerning how to keep our seed phrase and private keys safe, when we say seed phrase it means a recovery phrase, and it's best we backup our seed phrase offline and on several papers not just one, incase one was destroyed you probably still have some left.During a flood season you can put your private keys/seed phrase in a file and hide it at the top of your roof if only the flood doesn't get the level of the roof or encrypt your private keys/seed phrase on a steel and hide it.Its important to note that the same energy we apply to keep our seed phrase safe during natural disasters is same energy we apply to keep our lives safe because our lives is more precious than anything we could think of.

Natural disasters na one thing wey I dey fear like die because I dun see how e destroyed people life and their savings vanished for people wey been invested so much into landed properties.
Na why diversification into different sectors dey always good as an Investor because you no fit know the fate of the world and how things go be in the coming years.

For this matter of keeping our private key safe, most other better methods no dey very achievable to us but one thing I dey tell people wey I dey teach crypto na say, writing down on paper na the surest way but now you get to think of natural disasters and the most common to us na flood therefore, laminating the paper to make am water proof na the best thing to do.

If flood happens, your private keys go still dey safe for your house. If you get money you fit add safe for house join and keep your sensitive information inside incase of fire outbreak and the rest, Yes them get fire resistant safe them.

This is impressive, your thoughts both cam in with another dimension on full insight towards the situation on ground, which also advises that we should always be getting prepared ahead of time for the unpplanned, even its something we never wish to see happened, but in cease it do, what will be our fate, what are we going to be left with.

Considering the Laminated material for securing our seeds is a perfect idea as well as having the second thought that we may not only have to consider water alone in this disaster, but fire could come in by any form and unpredictable as well, its time we all begin to consider the safety of our assets just as we care more about our health, because there lies our treasures.

~
After flood, there's another one though it's not a type of a natural disaster but it could take the form of a natural disaster and that's Fire ( it could take the form of natural disaster when it accompanied by storm most times e.g  Fire whirl,Fire storms, hurricane-fire e.tc). Fire is common everywhere but as a natural disaster, it's not common in Nigeria.

Thus, if we will be thinking of Paper as a safe method we should also consider Fire too and keeping it in a fire resistance material will be a nice idea could be like a safe. There's no actual perfect method though, but it's good to always look into different possibilities too.

Any form of natural disaster can happen irrespective of what it where we are located. Fortunately for our part of the world one form of natural disaster we have never had is that of an earthquake and wildfires. However we can't be sure of what natural disaster that may be-fall us where we may run to thinking that it's safe. So my two cents on this is that of having our seed phrase stored at multiple locations.

Storing our seed phrase at multiple locations that you're confident to be secure locations is just one way I think better to prevent a loss from natural disaster of this nature. Because the flood that happened recently in Maduguri Nigeria didn't cover the entire state, there were still higher grounds where people still have there normal life going on.

Underestimate- nothing
I watched a clip of the flooding in Maiduguri, the water level was as high as 6ft that some persons had to climb to the roof top of buildings for safety and the thought that came to my mind was if this had happened to where I'm, what would be fate of my backups.

I think the flooding disaster is a wakeup call to some of us who stores our seed phrase on a piece of paper to have multiple backups elsewhere incase something like this happens, we won't lose our funds, or better still, get a metallic plate.

The seed phrase is more than a password and it is the only thing you have to be able to access your money and if you lose it then you have to start thinking of how to start afresh because there is nothing you can do to be able to have access to does coins. and not only the flood their other natural disaster and even accidents can happen in this case of flooding that occurred in Maiduguri it was not as if they were prepared for what was supposed to happen, and when it starts occurring you might not even think whether seed phrase or not and if it has been written on a paper then it is going to get lost. if we are saving it we have to save it where it will not be affected by natural disasters. and saving on the cloud is even worse because of hackers you will have to avoid saving it on the cloud because of the internet.  another big question is where you will want to save it so that you won't have to worry about saving any longer. and this flooding is what will open our eyes to how we can find the right place to save our Bitcoin,  even if you have multiple backups what if it is the same city then there is no difference, how else can it be safer?

Op correct the year, you write 2023 instead of 2024 in the first paragraph of the Op. Aside that as for people from the riverine areas, they have experienced and still experiencing flood yearly. As as it is said but some scholars, Nigeria has two and half mainly God given Niger Delta states and they are only Delta State and Bayelsa and part of Rivers State. Rivers State, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo State and Ondo State are all in up land. They have hills and high lands which above the sea level but Bayelsa State and Delta State are below the sea level therefore those who are living there are already aware of the every year flood disaster so they are always alert of their lives and Documents safety.

Recently all the building in those riverine areas are above five block dpc. And that is very high for any flood to attack. It is not easy to save seed phrase in a riverine areas and the best measure to take now is to live high dpc building so that you won't bother to packing things up and down. And misplacing paper seed phrase and other important documents. Those are some people f the security measures I can give.

Considering the consequences of natural disasters being affected to the displacements of our seed phrases is one major reason why we should consider storing our seed phrases in both offline and online because we definitely don't know where we might be attacked to the lost of our wallet security backups.
While a lot of persons has expressed about scammers roaming around online on whom to attack and Invade their Privacies being risky, it's expected to also consider Plan B if incase natural disasters strikes the venues where our seed phrases are stored. Then online storage could serve as alternative of restorations.

The incident that happened on the 9th of September 2023 in Maiduguri Nigeria caused me to think more deeply on human safety, that are we even safe at all in some cases, or if an uncertainty happened unexpectedly, are we preparing for a (plan B) to serves as rescue in case of natural disaster occurrence, with the ways on how we save our cryptocurrency private keys (seed phrase), i think its time that we begin to look into so many things we overlooked as before now.

Quickly, i will like to remind us concerning the experience in Bangladesh as flood destroy and displace many lives and properties over there https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2024/8/28/i-have-lost-everything-bangladesh-floods-strand-1-24m-families those affected in didn't planned or expect to see such happened, but they almost lost everything including their lives.

Recently in Nigeria, Alo Dam in Maiduguri also break out due to overflow as a result of heavy rainfall and some also said that this was as a result of other dams linking to the said Alo dam being released because of overflooding which they avoided and caused the break out of Alo Dam in Maiduguri Nigeria

Quote
On 9 September 2024, the dam collapsed following heavy rains, resulting in floods that inundated up to 15% of Maiduguri and killed more than 80% of animals in the Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo.[5] At least 30 people were reported killed due to flooding in the area https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alau_Dam#:~:text=On%209%20September%202024%2C%20the,to%20flooding%20in%20the%20area.

It was a sad story indeed, talking about the flooding of Alo dam in Maiduguri, Bangledash, and I think there was even cases reported about typhoon Yagi that hit some parts of China recently.
All these are unplanned natural events that we have no control over and even contingencies may be too late to deploy if found in such a situation.

Hardware wallets is good for such instances, but what if one were to lose their life while trying to protect their wallet and seed phrases and still, couldn't keep it safe?

Life matters more and I think anyone who values theirs would ensure they live in proper places and regions far from such possibilities of mishap, they should also ensure using cloud backup services for seed phrases coded into understandable rhymes in case of loss of device or in the absence of internet services, until such service is restored.

Good question bro.
Before thinking of where to store our private keys, it is important to think about the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario will expand your thinking to know that what can go wrong will go wrong. In this recent flooding in Nigeria my worry is not that someone will see their private keys and steal their funds my worry is that they may lose their crypto forever without any access if they lose their private keys. As e be self na to find unconventional ways wey you feel say dey safe to take store am.

I got your various opinions and expressions towards this as well as how we felt and reacted, but in life, we should always be reminded that there is no an excuse for doing what is wrong even when we are unaware of the circumstance attached to it, that is why information is key, if am born and breed up in a place doesn't means i must spend my entire life living there, there is freedom of migrating from one place to another for settlement, also, for some of us that are quite aware that we have something valuable to lose if the natural should happen, then i expect us to have research about any environment before making a decision for staying there permanently.

You are right, before staying in an environment you have to look for a save place and make a decision whether the place is safe for you or not, but we should also remember that there's nothing we can do when Something wrong because that is God plan, for me, I don't think I can stay like a place like maiduguri because in Nigeria we all know that maiduguri is not a safe place even when the flood has not happen we know that maiduguri is not a safe placr, so as a person that know that you are holding something important you don't have to live a life of maiduguri.

I did not mean that staying in maiduguri is bad but it is a risky environment, the accident happen in maiduguri is really bad because many people lose their property, but savings your seed phrase in a good and important Gmail is the best option, although computer and some things can not be save but there are some things you can save in the Gmail that can help you and you won't lose everything that you have.

Natural disasters are one thing that can never be predicted for any day and when it happens it also sounds and looks like a shock to people. Sighting an example to also what happened to Niger Delta region where flood took over about 10 - 15 States in the country early 2012 and 2022 lot people where also affected. Although from my investigation and interrogation from the elderly people and I asked if they had experienced such flooding before and they said since they where born till date they have not experienced it and it came as a surprise to them and they are caught unaware. As then lifes where lost and property and livestock where missing including pottery farmers etc lost everything they had in the name of flood.

Of course we can't be sure of our personal proper because almost every place in the country are not safe, if not for floods then is headsmen, if not for headsmen then it's fire outbreak from unrefined and undylutted crude oil that is being cook to condolences as fuel, which has burned down lot of homes and killed several people across the State and country. So my dear no place is safe is you must know.

What happened the other day in Maiduguri regarding the flood was a natural disaster which couldn't be controlled by anyone but could have been tamed by the government or at least reduced its effect on the people generally. In more developed countries, there used to be things like red alert or an alarm information the residents on the possibility of flooding and how they can reduce its effect at least by putting them in the knowledge of the possibility of such natural disaster.

Though, they are also not as perfect as we have seen instances, for example, in Dubai where the flood almost float away the whole city and people or the government could do little to rescue people and we witnessed how airplanes were flowing on the water.

This the effect of natural disasters which are barely controllable by any government, however, many governments try to prevent it by developing measures which can curtail it from occurring in the first instance or install alarm systems which will inform the public when such dangers are about the occur. In this case, if the alarm systems are in check and ringing, you want to quickly move your valuables into safe boxes and have them stored in a safe environment where water cannot touch or fire cannot engulf, including your private key or seed phrase.

If I was a victim of this natural trajedy, I don't think my seed phrase will be tempered with because I've specially made provisions of not storing my private keys in one location. I have a resident and a hometown, both locations are places I visit on timely basis and I have my private keys stored in both locations for the sake of safety and precautionary measures to my assets.

If the flood had occurred in my hometown, in Borno for instance, I still have a backup in my residence in Abuja to fall back on. I have also protected the keys by digging hole in my bedroom to store it in a plastic. I don't think the flood will get to the level of digging it out and should in case it does, I can always replace it with what I have in my residence.

9th September 2024 We express our sincere condolences to the areas where the Maiduguri dam broke and the areas were flooded and the lives of the people were affected due to the heavy rains. In fact, nature is very cruel and no one can know when it will happen according to the rules of nature. We heard through the news that after the Maiduguri dam broke, there is a zoo called Sanda Kyarimi, about 80 percent of the zoo's animals died due to the flood. It might be more heartbreaking.

OP you recently came to discuss the flood situation in Bangladesh I saw a topic on the reputation board of this forum about this flood situation.Basically there was a discussion about a manager of this forum and the situation around him. There are some mentioned news links that it is known that there is a sudden flood in their country and people there or some districts there are unimaginably flooded. That unimaginable flood affected a reputed manager of this forum and his family which made him unable to access this forum for a few days.

In fact, if the severity of natural disasters is so high where we live, then we should think about our own lives and the safety of our lives. Where when many people are in crisis due to the brutality of natural disasters, he may not be able to think about anything else when his main goal is to save his own life.

cout << "Bitcoin";
Firstly, I really feel sad for those that lost so much to the recent flooding in Maiduguri. According to the same Al Jazeera, it was reported that Maiduguri is seeing it's worst flooding in the last 30years. Incidents like this are not planned for, i.e majority of the citizens in this country don't create backup plans for natural disasters, as they are only focused on surviving. I think similar flooding also happened in few states sometime last year/early this year (if I'm not mistaken), and it was as a result of a dam that was opened in another country.

Truth is, the flooding situation didn't occur in a single day, but it started gradually before covering large areas. I pray it doesn't happen to me, because the troubles/stress that comes with relocating in times like that is is very unhealthy.

What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.

My safety and personal life should come first ahead of every other thing. I will definitely find a way to make my seed phrase backup material water proof, maybe by laminating it. But before the who flooding issue escalates to the point that it starts covering the roof of buildings, then I might want to make use of my holdings, by moving/relocating far from areas that are highly vulnerable to such disasters.

What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.

Knowing the geographic and weather conditions of where you live or where you intend to relocate is critical for the safety of your life and property. Those who live in flooded areas understand what comes with it, and many of them experience global warming early. Exchanges are not a good way to safeguard coins, but residents who live in areas like these prefer to leave their coins on exchanges because it is safer than maintaining a physical seed phrase that could be destroyed by flooding.

Situations like this are why third-world countries are always the victims of exchange hacks, as many of us regard exchanges as a better save site than offline storage; I'm not suggesting it's better, but it aids in protecting coins for those living in those locations.

God is All
I think it has become necessary we keep tab of our private keys and other sensitive information because the rate at which things are changing is a source of concern. Imagine how many people have been displaced by the flood in Bornu state who are not even thinking about their Bitcoin but how to remain alive. We should be able to periodically review how we store our Bitcoin and the private keys to check if we can easily get them in a situation of emergency like natural disaster. Those of us living in Southern Nigeria are constantly facing flooding that most of the times displaces us from our homes. Even though one use hardware wallet, flood can destroy it and that is something to worry about. A review of the storage medium should therefore be a continuous process like I do and if emergency happen today, I can easily get all my key valuables and run away.
Well natural disasters na something person no fit avoid so the best anyone fit do na really just to mantain and manage the situation because everyone no matter how you keep your private credentials and key if these disaster wan destroy them e go still happen so na for everyone to just dey vigilant and follow up with these crisis in a way the effect no go too much. I believe one year when flood come, I think 2022 people no really expect the water to big sef and before you know the matter don escalate to the extent way as you enter house come outside everywhere don flood up and if you no prepare na so many things go spoil for you.

The great city of God 🔥
The essence for creating this thread is for us to ask ourself again on how prepared we are for the worst to happened, also, its time that we begin to review on the kind of environment that we live in, ensuring not to be riverine area or close to dam, because the latter rains are falling heavily and causing flooding in so many countries now.
Although wettin you talk na true, this issue of flooding caused by overflowing of dam na serious issues wey government sorpos don settle, but as the case may be the reality be say government no fit do everything for us when it comes to live saving matter. Normal natural disaster dey happen everywhere all over the world 9ja no dey experience anything compared to some countries wey dey expirenced earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption, land slide and somany other ones unmentioned.

The solution to wettin you dey talk for my own idea be say if person get money to pack comot for that place wey dey Close to dam, make the person do am isap to a far place where before the flood go come close you go don get information to arrange yourself.

Den if person no get the money to pack comot the other option I get na to install flood detection device to give you signal when water level don pass be careful. I do some research come discover This isocket sensor , E go help to detect when the environment water level don rise den E go send you message to your phone email alarming you to stay alert. I no no how much E go cost but you fit do some research about am. Another life saving tool I for shear with you na survival pod. This one you fit enter inside lock yourself when emergency water don surround you but E too dey expensive. So any strategy person fit do secure him life make E do because life no get duplicate.

What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.
Na person life dey important pass all those things you dey mention, person sorpos get a safe lock with water resistant wey even if water touch am E no go spoil anything. Person wey dey stay close to dam sorpos dey extra careful.

when it comes to the environment some of us reside in, it's not in our making that we stay in certain places at certain time when disaster breaks out. Like for those leaving in those environment where the dam is located, some of them were born and brought up in that environment, some came in through NYSC (at least I know some of my guys that are around those places) and some just happen to visit thier due to general hustling movement in search of greener pasture. You can't tell when disaster will hit an environment and untill it happens, you might never believe that flood from the damn can sweep such an environment off and destroy lives, properties and assets. It happens just like the way normal road accident occured or building collapse takes place or any other form of accident. You can't be careful or better prepared enough. Some persons where brought up in riverine area while others are brought up in deserts. It's just that it's best to take care of our environment so we're better protected from these kind of occurrences.
Why not ask yourself this, if you're in Maiduguri or Bangladesh to experience flood like these.

What could have happened to your seed phrase backup material or location, mobile device and computers,  internet device and connectivity, not to talk of your own personal life and safety.
one thing you have to know is that regardless of the safety precaution you take, it's 100% possible that you might lose your seed phrase and all the funds you have if it's certain to happen. There are basic things you can do to protect your seed phrase and it's best to do it but the truth is that no method of securing it is 100% certain that in the event of an unplanned natural occurrences like this, things might not go wrong.

If you're in an environment where natural disaster like that happens, what should be your first priority should be your life and then you can think of your asset.
