I think it is impossible to ask for smerit because it will be futile, merit obtained with a quality post and can affect people to give merit, maybe merit also can share with your friends. can exchange merit with so we will easily get merit

I like the answer of all friends about this topic that can not be won by begging smerit,If there is smeritnya given by just begging, then he did something stupid because the purpose of merit is to grow newcomers in order to make quality posts and do not tend to post. in offtopik and spam

Can't we just help the guy?

We did help the guy - we said No !

Would you go to the supermarket and ask the manager if you could go round the store asking people for money? The concept is the same.

You can't do that, merit is like a reward for those who contributes good posts in this forum. Anyone who wants to earn merits must work for it. We have to go through continuous learning so we can have a quality post and share it to everyone in this forum.

See these people are being rude, the new guy was only asking of course he doesn't know, can't you just give him some useful advice or links that could help him understand more about the Merit System?

Can't we just help the guy?

Though its true, you should work on your communication skills first.

Repeat after me:

Merit only boosts your forum rank. Your forum rank doesn't matter except as foolish self pride.

Ok, good talk.

Apparently not, because it wouldn't be useful if you are only posting only to ask for merit. Merit is given by us by the user if they like and find it useful regarding the post we have made.

No.
I think it's "allowed" per theymos, but then so is scamming.  And there are DT members who won't tag you for asking, but there are some, and all it takes is one to redden your reputation.  Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with the scenario OP mentioned, where you create a thread (presumably about something unrelated) and then ask at the end.  But starting a thread begging for merit is wrong, as is sending PMs asking for merit.  I will tag anyone doing the latter.

Begging/buying/whatever credibility which you do not deserve/have not earned = fraudulent scheme. Quickseller is an expert in this subject.

Lmao! Getting some popcorn and waiting for quickseller to response.
Lol, kidding aside don't beg for merit cause its better to have it through your hard work than to have it in stupid ways. Wait for people to appreciate your work, and enjoy this new process.

Better thing is that you can collect 10 good post from this forum (including yours as I did not see in Theymos post that specifically say it should be of  others, it just say 10) and apply for Merit Source.
If your post are really good then they will draw attention in the Merit source application and probably merit to you.

But in any case don't beg.

Begging, both irl and here may be irritating but is a simple request, not a fraudulent scheme and the "have not earned" caveat is implicit in the act of begging.
Or maybe if the begging is of high quality and informative, would it then qualify for merit in its own right?

Begging for merit even once will earn you negative trust.

Why's that?

How does begging for points fulfill this

Quote from:  trust criteria
Negative - You were scammed or you strongly believe that this person is a scammer.

in any way?

1. a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making a quick profit; swindle. verb (used with object), scammed, scamming. 2. to cheat or defraud with a scam.

That is a forum rule - which means if you break it you get banned.

Begging for merit even once will earn you negative trust.  If you ignore that trust and continue begging, you may be banned.

You shouldn't be doing that, the point is to create the quality content and see if someone can appreciate it. It might be making the life on this forum harder but on the other hand it makes sense as the posts were turning to pure rubbish.

LOL. You make a thread only to ask for merits? You think this is a place for pajeets to come and beg for merits? Just like we have got beggars asking for satoshis in the lending section and also in primedice chatbox?

Get a life and get a job. More importantly get a GF and get laid.

Good riddance. Grin
