Hi,

How many gpu's i can have on this mobo? I would like to have 4.I am using one now. Is that possible, anyone using something like this on am3+ motherboard? Should I invest into a new mobo and cpu or I can use the old one?

Thanks.

I use 3 on that board. With the 4th it crashed but no clue if it was due to power, the GPU failing (bought the GPU's second hand) or any other reason. Why not try and if it fails get another mobo + cpu?

Can you please tell me what ps and gpu's are you using? I guess I'll just go for 3 Gpu's and save the money for another mobo and cpu in case it doesn't work.

Does it matter if I use an ssd or hdd?

Thanks
It was 3x 7950 and a 7970 one an corsair ax 860. Like I said I didnt look into the cause yet. The HDD does not matter but obviously booting amd installing stuff goes faster with an SSD but that's about it.

Lack of power looks like it was the problem, would have been fine with the 3 7950s but add in the 7970, it would have pushed it over the edge for sure.

My only issue with the power and reset buttons on the motherboard is that they're placed badly, anything but a riser or a VERY short board in the 3'd 16-bit PCI-E socket blocks them.
This obviously isn't an issue in an all-riser rig.

I've got at least one full-ATX motherboard that puts them in front of the memory sockets near the ATX 24-pin power plug, that is a MUCH better position for them for most folks (other than riser-rig miners).

I have 5 sapphire rx 470s on this board (all on risers)  with a 7200 rpm hdd and a 1000w evga psu. This board has been rock solid, and power and reset buttons are great for an open air rig.

FX processor without APU (6300 is fine, but "eats" 85 W unfortunately)

There is no such thing as an APU that uses the 970 chipset - that's a  socket AM3/3+ specific chipset and ALL APUs are FM-series socket.

FM2A88X Extreme 6+ would probably be the closest thing this motherboard that you CAN put an APU into (and happens to be my current go-to MB).

I had one mobo like this,
used 8gb RAM, Crucial SSD (if you want to save money, get 160gb 7200rpm re-certified WD blue caviar HDD from Microcenter at $9.99 for 90% less).
FX processor without APU (6300 is fine, but "eats" 85 W unfortunately)
run five 470/480 GPUs on it (two in 16X slots, three on risers)
the FX-6300 undervolts fairly well in my experience, and would only be using 85W under heavy load anyways. I've got mine mining cryptonight with an undervolt and underclock that should bring it to somewhere around 40-60W of use for 248 H/s on 5 threads. (the wattage there is based on best and worst case Calculated figures, also the hashrate required messing with the bclck and NB speeds) ~40 cents of extra Profit a day is something at least.

3 x 16 bit slots, 2 x 1x slots - so in theory 5 cards.

I've never done riser rigs, but these MB are quite stable as 3-card rigs and I also have one in the new "gaming" rig I just built last week.

Sempron 145 if it's still available would be the best low-cost "new" CPU to use in one of these for a "pure" mining rig, though any of the old AM3 or AM3+ dual-cores work too (I've got at least one of these boards with a X2 240 in it).

My pair of mining-specific rigs use a HDD, the gaming rig has both a SSD and a HD.

The only reason this isn't my primary "go-to" motherboard right now is that I prefer to build "mixed" rigs with an AMD APU running the GPU section on Moo! Wrapper / BOINC / Distributed.net earning Gridcoin.

You may look for new MB only is you want  6 or 7 GPU.
This MoBo is great for 5 cards. I use CPU Athlon II X2 245 (45 Watts,  6 USD on Aliexpress)

I ran 5x 280x in the past on this board. Make sure to have at least 4gb of RAM and 16gb of virtual mem.
