280x's do not mix well with other cards because they are literally the only type that favor 2 gpu threads and low intensity (13).   That 290 will like 1 gpu thread with high intensity.

SGMiner is supposed to fix incompatibilities like that, because CGMiner had known issues running with different threaded GPUs.

I'd be very wary of mixing 280xs / 7970s with just about any other card.  Impossible, no.  Pain in the tail, yes.

I use my usb powered risers on pro btc boards with zero problems. Don't bother with ribbon cables. OP It'll be easier to setup and configure if you have matching cards. Just set each computer up with 6 identical cards. It will save you so many headaches.

I had a 6xGigabyte R9 270 rig w/ this board and the damn thing burned out the traces next to the 24 pin power supply connector. I had a 1200w gold rated thermal take powering the board and three cards which was only pulling around 800ish watts and a another 750 power supply powering the other 3 cards (only 340 watts measured from a kill-a-watt meter). I had problems using powered risers and the manufacturer states that it doesn't require powered risers, so I went w/ non-powered risers and it I had it running balls out at 2.8ish mh/s and I guess the traces couldn't handle it and burned out and crapped out my board. Needless to say Im pissed off and am in the process of sending it back. Luckily I had a spare board but I am seriously thinking about using a different board w/ powered risers, so much for another 6 gpu rig. Anyone else have problems w/ this board. I've read threads on reddit saying some people who used powered risers on this board messed up their gpu's, so if thats the case then you have to go w/ non-powered risers but then you run into the prob I had. FML. Thoughts?

Cards has no direct impact on mining performance as long as you successly make windows SEE the GPUS correctly.

Hey. I just ordered this board and want to put 6 cards in it.

Now there's a cheap 290 goin up on a forum..

I was going to put 280x's in it.. ( I already have one)

Now is it a pain in the butt to have different model cards in the same rig or should i be fine?

or would it just be easier to have the same card in there ? 280x

thanks

Gonna be using windows 8.1
If anyone has any input that would be great Cheesy
