You know I had a similar issue rolling out 320 GPU miners. All had identical hardware, but it was a crapshoot if the USB keyboard was going to work. Sometimes it had to be in the USB 3 slot, other times it had to be in the USB 2.0 slot. Never made any sense to me, but with those weird hardware issues you just gotta roll with it.

I still suggest that high performance CARDS are used for mining, residual and power consumption are better than normal, and maybe 5 years later, you can still play games.

OK so found the solution, posting here for reference.

OK so I've tested multiple USBs, and also rolled back not just the BIOS to a previous incarnation, but also to a prior version of SMOS.

It just seems that this B250 doesn't like SMOS, it happily recognises a regular usb with files on it, but as soon as I format it with SMOS, it fails to detect it.

Not sure what else to do at this point, other than try another OS.

Obviously make sure it is the correct format and make sure your new rig have the correct drivers to read the USB.

But yes, make sure it is a fresh install of your OS on USB.

There's no need to make short cuts cos 9 times out of 10 you end up spending more time trying to fix it.

You mean reinstall/reflash the OS on a new USB?

I'll try, was a brand new usb drive tho!

I had the same issues when I was duplicating my USB OS and running it on different rigs.

Best bet is to just do a fresh install for each rig you have.

Although it can be entirely indentical, every electrical component has its own unique signature which can cause it to be temperamental

Title pretty much explains. This is my second rig, 1st runs SMOS on a B250 no problem, so decided to clone the same setup for our 2nd rig. However, for some reason, the mobo no longer recognises, and therefore won't boot from, the usb which is formatted to run SMOS.

Firmware is updated, v1001, cards all register, but if I go into BIOS with the SMOS drive attached, it won't even give me the option to boot from usb, let alone select it as a bootable drive.

If I try with another usb drive it picks it up fine.

Anyone know what's up? TIA you beautiful people!
