About 10 years ago I used to trade forex a lot. And I heard about Bitcoin usually from the news and it was always labeled as a scam by most news reports back then.

I used to think it was a scam also. However I got interested and learnt how the technology works in early 2014 and haven’t looked back. If only I got involved in 2012 when it was super cheap it would of been the best investment of my life. Was like $30 then a coin.

not sure if there are really one of us who wanted to deliver their exact age as the topic isn't truly that explaining but yeah I have learned this at my adult years and start investing years after as I need to completely understand this first but what I got? is investing more in gambling lol, meaning I have lost majority of my crypto in addiction to gambling and that hates me every time I remember but lucky also that i start learning the right way and now? have changed a lot.

I don't know when I started trading for the first time, but until now I still can't trade consistently, always experience boredom and sometimes lose
maybe my age, which is not young, is even close to 1/2 century, lazy to do new things

There are two direct approaches one gets to know bitcoin?

  • Introduced by a friend

I saw my friend displaying photos of profits and green candles on social media. It attracted me a lot, so it was originally an advantage. And that's money.  It was the first time I heard of Bitcoin. So I've known Bitcoin for almost 8 years and have gone through two halvings. So I feel very lucky to know Bitcoin because with this I can help improve my economy. To be precise, I got to know Bitcoin in 2015, it was after I finished my final college assignment. Although I am familiar with trading, it turns out that Bitcoin is very broad. There are many factors that influence it.
You know bitcoin is two years faster than me but the way we were introduced and the approach to bitcoin was different, I was introduced by a colleague and if I'm not mistaken through mining on one of the free websites but I don't really remember what the process was like anymore. April 8 2017 to be precise, I got to know this forum and got a lot of knowledge about bitcoin, crypto, exchange, wallet and others.

This is quite an impressive experience for me and it is true that there are many factors that influence people to get to know bitcoin, until today we have been so thick and adapted to the decentralized investment model.

The amusing tale I first heard about bitcoin during my undergraduate studies was from a guy who lived close to me, but I wasn't concerned about anything at the time until a very close friend of mine started talking about it. I then asked him what it was about, and with the little information I learned from him, I did my own research. I saw the price of bitcoin at the time and ignored it until I saw the boost and regretted not buying, but now I'm not passing up this opportunity once more.

Most of us made similar mistake either we heard about Bitcoin and choose to ignore it or we knew what Bitcoin was about but was too scared to invest in it or we were not given the right information on what Bitcoin is all about.
All those were among the major reasons why most of us became late adopters of Bitcoin.

Getting into crypto at early age all depends on opportunity an individual get. It is always easy to do what your friends or your close relations are doing, sometimes we are build up by our group, community or families attitudes, because we are easily influenced by they are action. Why you found range of 17 to 30 years commonly in crypto it is because of exposure in term of technology meanly in African countries.

As for me, I was always seen an advertisement of Crypto over six years before i latter start to learn it because no of my close people was doing it, despite I want to more about it but no encouragement from any side. I was latter introduced to cryptocurrency when I was in university with a group of friends because they do always talk about cryptocurrency and the profit they are making out of it, that was even what encouraged me mostly. So I started my crypto investment at age of 25, and currently I am teaching my uncle who is 65 years old because he see most of our family in that aspect.

You were very lucky to have heard about Bitcoin while you were an undergraduate list the educational environment should have helped your research on the subject matter, early discovery gives time for one to build knowledge and properly understand the way the Bitcoin network work.

So now that you have more knowledge and are also a member of the forum, you will already have adequate knowledge that will guide you through the journey to becoming financially independent and free from third parties involvement.

According to me mostly people that came in crypto are mostly young aged people that range from 15 to 30 years. And I have seen less old people that first gotten in crypto. Because they think that crypto is not good for them.
Regarding the age of someone who knows bitcoin, it is very relative, because there are many factors that make people familiar with bitcoin, social media and online news that is currently published also quite a lot discusses bitcoin openly. Meanwhile, parents who are not technologically literate will find it difficult to invest in bitcoin and maybe because of this factor, the age of 20-35 years is more dominant in investing in bitcoin at this time.

There are two direct approaches one gets to know bitcoin?

  • Introduced by a friend
  • Bitcoin information is obtained through social media or other online news

However, the important point is not at what age someone knows bitcoin, but how far people are involved in investing at this time, considering that many sources have proven that bitcoin is the best investment ever.

It was in my 20's, and now I am in my 30's and I can tell you that the difference is staggering. When you get older you get wiser for sure. It's not just about knowledge or information or school related stuff or even skills, it's not even about knowing everything in wikipedia, that's not it. When you get older you get wiser, which means you could make better decisions on life and that's not something you could learn when you are young, it requires experience.

And according to your experiences, you could become a much better investor, or know a lot more about money as well. I have made so much more money in the last 3 years of my life than my entire 20's combined.

I heard about bitcoin trading long ago but was not  interested about trading also it requires enough knowledge. And basically what trading is done based on these price fluctuations. But if you don't know which coins will fall in price and which coins will rise in price then you can't profit in any way. But not if you know that you can benefit from that's why you have to study the market well before trading.

Since 2017 I have known the world of bitcoin and at that time I was only 20 years old and had not fully studied the world of bitcoin, after a big increase then at that time it was just finding out how bitcoin performed and finally I was interested and until now I still follow the development of the bitcoin world, and I am sure that many bitcoin users today are still young and they have great ambitions to be able to get results in the crypto world, With the current popularity of Bitcoin, crypto users are getting bigger and more and more different like 2017, and I believe we all have different experiences.

The age category of 25-34 years is the most age for cryptocurrency owners, and this age is certainly a mature enough age to start exploring crypto and investing, although investing in crypto doesn't have to be at that age.

More male users are investing in crypto than women. Men aged 25-35 years reached 15.5% and women as much as 9.5%.
This percentage is likely to increase in 2023 with the continued development of technology and ease of access to any investment.

This data also simultaneously shows the potential age for investing in the crypto industry, ages 25-34 are considered the most financially mature, so that opportunities for investment are greater and added skills and ease of adapting to the times and technological sophistication. Technology plays an important role in making investments, so they should also master the basics before getting started. Although older or younger age is also increasing in percentage every year.

For gender, it is indeed controlled by men in the largest number who make investments, but women also experience a significant increase every year and I think the increase in 2023 will be much more significant.

Bitcoin investment will not differentiate anything, everything will be the same. who wants to invest and wants to learn about bitcoin, cryptocurrency and technology, then he will get the benefits.

Remember @jetcash's sentence that said old age is not a disease and will not hinder anything, including investing in bitcoin.

Wow man you started pretty early! I was 26 when I started my bitcoin journey and first encounter was actually at the age of 22-24 I guess. I did not care much about it since it was new at the time and never thought that it will be something in the future. In addition to that when I started at 26 it was really just learning, accepting and motivating part for me but I did not really invest until couple of years later. I am not much of trading guy but initially had some adrenaline to do it but now I understand that holding bitcoin rather than trading is far far greater thing to do. You can get more profits that way and you get to enjoy the freedom of savings. Never too late to start with the bitcoin.

It seems interesting to me how OP discussed about the age factor. Some of the folks may agree with me that age group or in case of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology we cannot skip the generation gap. I believe that the majority of the early adopter's of Bitcoin would be people in their twenties or below.
Bitcoin was whole a new technology and people familiar to the traditional Fiat system from ages use to talk about it as a scam. There was a very low ratio of acceptance for Bitcoin to be used as currency among a certain age group (people around and above 50s). Even the financial institutions were not ready to accept Bitcoin.
Later on when the Bitcoin price crossed $7k then banks and other institutions jumped into it and thus a large number of aged and even retired personnel acknowledged Bitcoin.

I agree that Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general are easily accepted much more by younger people than our older folks, this i believe is because the technicalities involved in buying, selling and even hodling bitcoin cant be easily understood by the older folks, probably because they hardly have the time to sit and study the subject, most especially those of them who already own and are running their own big businesses, they fill they've fulfilled their destinies already, so why the hassle, trying out new stuffs.
Either coincidence or indeed technology is quite limited for parents. Literally the buying and selling process that occurs in bitcoin involves exchange, meaning that there are certain ways of buying and selling that people must learn before trading bitcoins, which may on this basis make it difficult for parents to learn technical matters in buying and selling, plus again having to deal with specific exchanges and wallets.

Moreover, older people are a bit behind when it comes to technology, making it difficult for them to get involved in investing in bitcoin and crypto in general, although not all aged people have this problem.

Quote
But the younger folks that are still searching for their destinies are always ready to try out new things, for this forks, their risk appetite is still on the high side, so its no surprise that they are the ones that easily accept bitcoin and crypto.
I got into crypto in my early 20s though.
One of the accurate reasons, maybe people are still young because they master technology, so it is easier to approach investing in bitcoin and crypto in general, because it is not so difficult to understand blockchain technology or other technical matters.

After years when I was 25y old for my birthday, my girldfielnt gave me a special gift, she gave me a letter with some words about bitcoin and recovery seeds to a bitcoin wallet, then I started trading cryptocurrencies and bitcoin after that they but I mostly prefer holding and doing long term investments.

I cannot say about myself, but I have mentored someone who really got into Bitcoins when he was 15-16 years old. I remembered when he needed some money for his needs(for his personal needs) and his parents didn’t give money for it. So he decided to go online and learn how to make money. I introduced him with Bitcoins at around 2015 or 2016. Instead of trading or investing he joined gambling and did some freelancing. The work he was doing made him collect Bitcoins and using that he used to Gamble or just save. Currently I don’t have any contact with him, but I came to know that he bought the thing that he wanted with the help of Bitcoins.

What you did must be much appreciated by him because when he was new he didn't know how to earn and you showed him a way.  Like you, not everyone wants to guide each other or do good to each other. You did a great job there by helping him even if you are not currently in contact. We often forget that those who stand by us in times of danger are not in touch with us when times are good, or we are far away from them.  We often forget those people who stood by us in times of trouble and helped us in the past, These have become a bit of a norm these days that we often don't think about. Right now the fact is that he is now financially very prosperous because Bitcoin is holding of your advice but has forgotten you. Again there are many people who may or may not remember you but due to busyness or different work, they can't contact you although this changes with time.

I heard about Bitcoin in 2016. I didn't think much about Bitcoin at first. Later, my friend bought a little bit and sold it after Bitcoin rose. He explained to me that it was an investment to speculate. I started to study Bitcoin. Later I classified Bitcoin as a store of value like gold. Bitcoin is worth more than its price.

Although some older people are reluctant to accept the new, that does not mean that cryptocurrencies are only for young people like you. You are underestimating the elderly, as long as they have a passion for finance, a passion for technology, anyone can participate in cryptocurrencies. Our world is colorful, don't think so simple.

I am a middle aged person, and the people I know are investing in bitcoin even bigger than me. Most people I know who are investing in bitcoin have no one under the age of 35.

If we talk about the age of people who first got into bitcoin around 2009, it would be teens or people between the ages of 20 and 30 because they were mostly on the internet at the time and definitely discovered it, but as the years passed, a lot of older people got into bitcoin and also became experts. I don't know the age of the folks here in the forum, but based on their knowledge, I am sure that they have been into bitcoin for a long time, and the way they explain things is like those old people who are very detailed.

This question should be treated flexibly, because everyone has different ways of receiving education. At the same time, some people are still confused at the age of 15, but some people can already develop products.

I gues you are wrong on this statement, we have quite a few old-timers in the cryotocurrncy community and even on this forum we have members of various ages and classes, but since bitcointalk is an anonymous forum, personal information such as age and place of a resident is not made public.

So at that, I will take that statement of only young people getting involved in cryptocurrency as just ab assumption because not far from the fact

I came across with this technology when I was 15, that I think was way back 2013, but I did not put that much attention into it. It was in 2016 where my interest towards this industry grew; made some cents out of faucets and in 2017 with airdrops. Then afterwards signature campaigns and trading. As far as I remember, I've learned trading "late" 'coz it is a bit complex and even at this point I am still not that 'good' into it. Sinply proves that there are no easy ways to earn profit in this industry in contrast with the impression created towards it by some non-crypto users. In my general experience, I'd say this technology really helped me a lot with finances and as a curious individual. Some people might have regrets of not investing early, but I think it is just the same thing; knowing it on its early years won't mean that you'd invest right away.

You're right, I'm on this range when I've first known about bitcoin and started to trade. Yeah, I started to trade first with bitcoin/crypto rather than with the stocks.

Those were the good old days and it's fun to think on where bitcoin is right now. Too many good times to remember when a lot of people will just say no when you're about to introduce bitcoin.

And people that have listened or have opened their minds about bitcoin are now reaping the benefits from it.

I was about the same age as the OP when I heard about bitcoin. I didn't invest in it then because I was too young and naive. Since I was a college student then, I thought I was going to be distracted by it. I just wanted to focus on my studies, get good grades and graduate. It wasn't  until 5 years later that I took it seriously having lost money in some shit coin project which some of my buddies had encouraged me to invest in. In my country, young people are more receptive to bitcoin than the older generations. Maybe this is because they understand it better or they see it as a way to escape the rat-race and oppressive government.

This does not matter that much do not you think? Now it is true that a younger person will have a longer time on average than an older person to invest in bitcoin and to enjoy its benefits, but this is true for any other investment and not only bitcoin, what matters is that you recognize in bitcoin an alternative to the fiat system or at least realize it is a good investment and then you take the necessary steps to invest in it, and anyone can do that regardless of their age.

Older people have the capacity to invest in Bitcoin.  They are just quiet and do their thing silently while younger people tend to be noisy and publish all their crypto activity on social media.  They are also very active in participating in surveys while older people are bz analyzing the market and researching good bitcoin start-ups to invest in. I do think that there are more older people who are actively participating in the Bitcoin market than what the survey says so saying mostly the 15-30 age bracket is the majority of the crypto population is somehow refutable, especially the 15 -18 years old bracket.

The older people, OP, are not in high numbers because they've embraced the traditional finance system, and are not deeply into new technologies like bitcoin. A major number of older persons still find it difficult to use some social media apps, introducing them into bitcoin would be a hassle and they'll make lots of mistakes. The few of them in this market are tech savvy and understands the goal of bitcoin. Additionally, old people shouldn't go into a risky investment like bitcoin; life savings is what most of them got left after retirement. Throwing them in bitcoin is not a good decision. On the contrary, younger persons are in the era of bitcoin and digital currencies, so their numbers are expected to be higher than older people. And the young investors see many reasons to join bitcoin and understands them easily. However given a little time, the young people of today would be older and such disadvantages won't exist anymore.

22 years of age as i do remember and this is the time where i do start up about learning on Bitcoin or the whole cryptocurrency market.Yes, its really that mind confusing and boggling but all over the years you had
been spending up your time on engaging on something which is unpredictable then you would really be able to have a good grasps to it.Trading isnt something that you could handle it out on a short time, you would be experiencing lots of trials and errors along the way before you could really be having a good grasps to it.People should really be removing into their minds that engaging or dealing up with this market is easy.
You would soon realize it on the time that you would be making out some mistakes and errors which is something that inevitable and this is why you should really be that realizing off these things.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
I was my self Wondering that there a re a lot of people who gotten in crypto makret in how much age?
As for as I am concerned I was only 17 years old in 2017 when I got some news about Bitcoin and It took me almost 3 years to learn and do something good for me and also my future.
According to me mostly people that came in crypto are mostly young aged people that range from 15 to 30 years. And I have seen less old people that first gotten in crypto. Because they think that crypto is not good for them.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
I never got into trading. Was in my early 30s when I bought my first bitcoin and became a part of the community. I wish it was a bit earlier as I'd love to be one of those 2011-12 early adopters who could mine on their PCs, but that's life. I could also buy Tesla stock 10 years ago and be a millionaire and my parents would say they wish they bought Microsoft in the 90s Wink

You're never too late to invest. You may be too late for one thing but another one pops up in its place. Even IBM who most old timers consider a failure of the computer industry because it lost 2/3 of its value in the early 90s made people 5x in the end. If you were patient with it and didn't sell you made money on it.

The most important things when you invest are avoid scams and have patience.

But the younger folks that are still searching for their destinies are always ready to try out new things, for this forks, their risk appetite is still on the high side, so its no surprise that they are the ones that easily accept bitcoin and crypto.
I got into crypto in my early 20s though.

Lots of bandwagon replies on this topic.

Age is a factor when discussing acceptance of new technologies or ways of doing things. This of course doesn't mean that the elderly are limited or incapable of learning new innovations, but they are more likely to stick to what they are familiar with and have a lower level of curiosity when compared to the younger generation.

The topic might not be very irrelevant to this board, but that doesn't make the observation wrong.
And OP, this would be better as a poll as users here might not want to reveal their age to the public.

I'm not sure what you mean by trading Bitcoin. When we won, the Bitcoin trading began for me. Because whether we buy it ourselves or get it from someone else. That is, we trade Bitcoin directly, whether p2p or through an exchange. I can't remember the exact year I won Bitcoin, but I believe it was in 2016. I was new to Bitcoin and didn't know much about it. Now I understand a lot about cryptocurrency and trading.

OP I really do not think age factor is necessary for one being knowledgeable about Blockchain or bitcoin. Age is no limit neither is it a barrier and there are no restrictions in learning about it. At any age, one can learn as long as you have the ability to grasp what you are learning about, you can do it better.  It has not been long I got aquatinted with bitcoin and I am doing just good at it. I bought bitcoin and I am holding it, I bought other Cryptos and I am trading them for profit. So why they age factor here.

Don't say the old don't invest in btc.there are some old people who love to be young forever, they interacts with the youths and learn new ideas from the youths also, so that they can move along with the new era and some of these people welcomed btc innovation and bought btc even before you did OP. Am new in btc but I don't trade,I have heard of it and was willing to learn about btc in 2020 but there was nobody to put me through till I met a friend in 2021 who introduced me into btc and gave me the basics. Am still learning, to trade, you must learn the trading techniques so that you don't fall into lost.

Age really doesn't matter to get into bitcoin/crypto and learn about it. You don't need to wait for a specific age to do something with crypto it is not a bank where you need to reach at a specific age to create an account or do transactions.

I have seen less old people that first gotten in crypto
This may happen in the early time of bitcoin but not now. There are so many things on the internet to learn about bitcoin or crypto for anyone to take knowledge. I learned about bitcoin when I was 22.

You have made your assumptions based on what you know and the very few insignificant number of persons you know who are in bitcoins compared to the total number of bitcoin hodlers worldwide.

Age is something of the body, it does not determine how accepting someone will be when introduced to bitcoins for the first time, what determines it is how accepting the persons mind is to new ideas and innovations, and this is not restricted to only people who are young in body and age. Some people who are old in body and age, but young and accepting at heart and mind have accepted bitcoins and are hodling, at the same time, you will find people who are young in body and age but not accepting at heart and mind still holding opinions that bitcoin is a scam.

OP, I don’t really see any relevance in your topic. People’s age at when they started trading or got into bitcoin isn’t at all relevant in my opinion. I think a better heading for your topic would be “What year did you get into bitcoin and trading” but that topic also has probably been discussed a couple of times already.

I think the demographics of bitcoin users, traders and investors are more of the younger and middle aged people than of the old elderly people. Most of the elderly in my opinion, are more conservative and traditional. It would take a whole lot to convince them that bitcoin, a currency that you can’t see and touch is real or as valuable as people say. They don’t think crypto isn’t good for them, they actually don’t believe it’s a real legit thing.

OP how long have you been in the forum? How often have you been reading?

Check up for the profile Jet Cash he is seventy plus or eighty and above and still Bitcoin Rich and contributes hugely to the growth of Bitcoin and the Bitcoin forum. Not only 18-30 are here in the forum.

Too much of all the ranting and questions, Bitcoin creation has nothing to do with your age, all you have to do is to get bitcoin and preserve and store it very well, because the greater the need of the digital coin, the  greater the need to preserve it. Ensure you do what is important by the accumulation of little sats.

I'm not were I'm supposed to be in trading of Bitcoin but at least I'm headed somewhere. I've heard about the digital currency since 2019, but I guess I'd blame my reluctance to do something on skepticism and a lil bit of FUD, if not, I would have been able to purchase a handful because the price was a bit low then( I think, about $7,200).

But I fully started in the year 2021 and despite it's ups and downs due to volatility in price, I'm still pushing. I think the best way to enjoy trading in BTC is if you trade with what you can easily dispose.
heh, because you won't wanna get suicidal when your investment falls down like a pack of cards
