The amount needed to retire varies greatly depending on individual circumstances, such as desired lifestyle, location, and healthcare needs. Financial advisors often suggest aiming for a retirement savings goal of 10 to 12 times your annual income. This would allow for a comfortable retirement with a similar standard of living.

To determine a more accurate estimate, it is recommended to consider factors such as anticipated expenses, inflation, investment returns, and potential sources of retirement income (such as pensions or social security). Consulting with a financial advisor can help in creating a personalized retirement plan.

you have to complete the question: When would you say is enough for ... what? That is the question that carries the answer in itself. What do you want your money for? To quit work, to enjoy a certain lifestyle or to create a fortune that goes on for generations. Perhaps the right advice is to set yourself a target and stick to it or else all the money in the world will not be enough for you, as it is human nature to always seek more.

At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?

For me when you own your house and the land where your house is built, that's when the time you can say you have enough money in this world.

I sincerely agree with you; the basic need of man include shelter, food, health and few others. Anybody that can afford those without much stress should be considered as having money.
Another reason I see a lot of people also want more money is to be able to help others who are in need and who may not be privileged to make ends meet. My greatest joy is putting a smile in someone else's face and I cannot do very well without money as majority of the world is going through financial stress at the moment.

So the quest for money is a continuous one and will only stop when money is no longer a factor in the equation of life.

Money will be felt to be enough when it comes to the right person, namely someone who is good at being grateful for the blessings that God has given. They enjoy whatever they have without having to compare it to what other people have.

Don't be too busy to compare what we have with what other people have so you don't have time to enjoy it because you are too busy making money so you can balance and exceed the wealth of others. Indeed, if talking about social status can be measured by money, other people will appreciate and respect you because you are rich and have a lot of money, but the size of happiness cannot be measured only by money. Indeed, with money you can buy a luxurious house with luxurious equipment inside. but not with comfort and harmony in it.

I think, the decision of when you have enough money is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. The most important thing is to be honest with yourself about your needs and goals, and then work towards achieving them.. Undecided Undecided

I will repeat myself again after sometime as this post here made exactly think the same. There is no right or wrong answer I think is not a complete truth, the complete truth is that money is an illness, one of the worse ones anyone can encounter,if you think I am joking I am absolutely not joking.Let me demonstrate with an example of my boss again,he has enough money for generation yet he is ill for money,he keeps staying in his office even on Saturdays and Sundays where the outside temperature is well above 99 Fahrenheit and that is very hot.He has quite some villas in many cities that have access to the beach yet he rarely if at all goes there,if this is not money illness I don't know what this is.

At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?
Actually, when it comes to money, from ancient times to today, many people never feel enough with the money they have.
Because if it's a matter of feeling enough or not in terms of money, it has entered the realm of lust that is in the heart.

So basically, if we have money, whatever the amount, if we can be grateful for the money, surely the money will feel very sufficient. But if just keep following lust and greed. Even if have a mountain of money, will never feel enough with that money.

So in essence, a person's sense of contentment with money is definitely very different, because all of that must be adjusted to the needs in his life. But if you look at it from the side of people who always follow their lust and greed. Even though suppose their life needs have been met, still people like that, will never feel enough and satisfied with the money they have. So in conclusion, feel enough in the context of having money. It all depends on the gratitude of each person.

The point at which one can say they have had enough money is when they have acquired sufficient wealth to comfortably meet their needs, fulfill their desires, and make a positive impact on their life and the lives of others

People's desires are endless, whether you say how much you need to live an entire lifetime but then with many factors, it will all change. That's why we're always trying to become the better versions of ourselves and you get as much money as you can if you ever can.
Today, you may say that a million dollars is already enough for you. But after a few years, you'd say that it's too quick to be gone because of inflation and the demands and needs plus the wants that you wanna have. That's why it is an unending desire and cycle and the contentment of a person never goes an end. While you're able to make as much money as you can, enjoy your better days while you're strong because in the end it's still health is the best wealth and no amount of money can retain that youth and health you've got while you're still young.

At a point where you can afford all you want by yourself and still move freely in your neighborhood and everyone love to associate with you because of the helping hand you have render to them. secondly, contentment is one thing, one can assume one have enough. if you can manage the little resource you have then you have enough.
it's hard to presumed one has enough money, because your much is someone else daily spending. its all about contentment to. me.

At no point a man can say he had made enough money rather he has made a lot because pinning that you've made enough is as not longing for more any longer yet you have bills and responsibilities to attend to.

By this, your filled cup as enough money is already depreciating and as time goes it gets empty returning your filled enough levelled to a zero zero.
Otherwise I can only say a man can say he has made enough money only when considering his age of advancement and had to take a life time break of less stressed but would/may be a  financially dependant to some person's.

To buttress this, one can make a lot of money but not enough money because money is counted in figures and in numbers where of one figure or number is out the total number or figure is depreciated.

Money can't be enough for humans. Our search for wealth and needs is numerous. Everyone wants to get the best cars, and buildings, and to have a luxurious life. All that requires enough money to sustain. You can't be spending money living the best of your life, without trying to make more money to facilitate the good life you are living.
in this time no amount of money is enough - I we purchase a TV there is upgraded version next year - if we get an iphone there is upgraded version in coming days
So the struggle is real - one should not stop earning money unless they achieve the financial freedom

I think the money depends on who owns it. That person, if he already has a lot of money, he will continue to want it somehow until when.

I personally also think, I really want to have a lot of money, accompanied by a healthy body.

Maybe the money is enough, not limited.
When we have money, and we look up, we seem to have very little money. And keep wanting more.

This solely depends on the individual. We vary as individuals so as our love and drive to acquire money.
There are folks who let the amount of money they’ve got define them. These folks would never be satisfied with the amount they’ve got and would continue striving to get more.

I think someone who wants and strives to acquire more and more money can never be content and perhaps can never be fully satisfied.
Money, after all, is the exchange of value. To me, there is no point in beating one's chest about being wealthy to the point of having extra money. Money has value until you reach the value of money, at which point he or she can say, "I've had enough money." How do you divide the cost of achieving such heights? Is by using your available money to fulfill all of your dreams and wishes in order to be happy, and then lending a helping hand to the less fortunate members of the community in order for them to also fulfill their heart desires. He or she must be content with the amount of money available to them. He or she must be a giver as well as a producer.

But if you have the 'desire for power' disease, money is never enough, even if you have take over the whole world. The next thing to rule is the moon. And then Mars. Money is never enough.

Money? Can it be enough?. There is no point one will say that he or she has had enough because the more money you get, the more your social and economic responsibilities expand. At this point there will be an outrageous budget and living standard that needs to be met at all time and this will require that the source of the money flow will be strengthened  to keep the flow coming and steady

You have enough money when you say you have had enough money there is no fixed point, the decision is yours to make. This is why you still see billionaires who have seen enough money in their life still keep going and working to get more because they have not decided that the money they have seen is enough. The question then should become, how much money have you decided is enough money for you?
I think as long as a person is in good health to enjoy what they have that is point when the money is enough.
If you are sick and you dont enjoy the luxuries you have purchase then there is no use of them

One important consideration regarding 'enough' question is, what is money? In history, all kinds of nations used all kinds of things as money... including salt. If we only think of money as the cash and cards in our pockets, we are limiting ourselves to our own harm.

For those of us who understand that money is anything of value that can be traded for something else, congratulations. This is the first step to gaining more stuff of value.

Now all we have to do is figure out which 'things' will increase in value with regard to other things, before we trade away our things of value that are going down in value.

I'd say that I'd have my limit and would be able to say that's enough. I know the feeling of having more money than you need and I know the feeling of having less than you need. I've never been really rich though, so maybe if I had 100 million USD my attitude would change and I'd become completely spoiled, who knows?

At this moment if I had a business that would generate around 3k USD a month for me without any expenses, I'd say that's more than enough. It would allow me to pay all my bills, feed me and my family, give me a lot of free time to do what I like and save up on top of it. If I ever decided to work, all that money would go towards pleasure because all the basics would get covered by that constant monthly income. It would give me and my family a feeling of safety.

If we're talking in money in the bank terms, since my family's monthly expenses at this point are around 2k USD, having 300k on the side would probably set us up for 10 years (100k added to account for inflation). We'd start spending more if we had that lying around, I know, but It's not like we'd be sitting on our asses all the time. We'd simply get part time jobs. It would lift some of the pressure from our shoulders.

At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?

Enough money is a tricky question.  You could say that if you have food to eat then you have enough money.  There are definitely levels.  With $100 you are certain to have a full belly.  With $1,000 you can have a full belly and a place to stay for a while.  With $10,000 you can have food and shelter as well as transportation.  With $100,000 you may be able to buy your own residence with a loan.  With $1,000,000 you can have your own residence without a loan as well as investments that generate income to sustain you.  With $10,000,000 you can have most luxuries you can think of to go along with an amazing home.  With $100,000,000 you can own things you never even knew you wanted like a yacht as well as having the financial freedom to never worry about money again.  With $1,000,000,000 you can own everything you ever wanted and begin taking ownership of businesses and sports teams.  With $10,000,000,000 you can own your own sports teams along with major controlling stakes in large businesses.  With $100,000,000,000 you can start companies to do whatever you want like travel to Mars or build electric powered tanks for people.  With $1,000,000,000,000 you have the power to control society and decide what their products can do or what news they read.  With $10,000,000,000,000 you can finance wars to decide borders and control governments.  With $100,000,000,000,000 you can control the world.

How much is enough for you?

While the above post is one of my more favorite posts I've made, I don't think I actually answer the question so let me just say that for me, I would have no desire left after owning the Sacramento Kings.  That might take a couple of billion, but after that I don't think money would matter to me in any way ever again.  So how much money is enough for me to make my dreams come true?  1.84 billion dollars.

How much money would it take to make me happy?  I think probably $75 would be enough to bring a smile to my face for a night.  Smiley

The quest for money has to do with what people think money is. Is money those little pieces of paper people stick in their wallets? Is money those little coins people stick in their change pockets... and often into parking meters? Or are these mediums of exchange simply the easy way to do value and property transfers?

There isn't a lot one can do with the stuff we call money, except to trade it for things that have value. Can you eat a dollar bill if you are hungry? Perhaps. But is there as much nutritional value in it as there is in a dollar's worth of bread? Money doesn't really have any value in itself. All the value that money has is perceived value. Money doesn't really have more value than the tiny bit you can get from the paper and ink that make it up.

I would suggest that real money is anything of value... real value. I would say that real money is all the things that you use to make your life easier to live... or livable at all in the first place. Why? Because everything we do in life is a medium of exchange. If we eat food, we change the food into aspects of living. And there is part of the food that our bodies naturally discharge as unfit for the purpose of life. In other words, there is exchange involved, and food is the medium.

A person can only live so much. A billionaire can't live in all his homes at the same time. He can't drive all his cars and trucks at the same time. He can't fly in all of his airplanes at the same time. Having/owning multiple homes and vehicles might be an advantage for him in certain situations or circumstances. But they might wind up being excuses for him to actually set up circumstances or situations so that it looks like he has a need for all these homes and vehicles.

Much money is a form of advancement. At least, many people think that it is. So, for them (most of us) basic money is so that we can live - food, clothing, shelter, etc. Anything beyond basic money is so that we can be praised for having more than somebody else, and for being able to manipulate life so that we can advance beyond others. It's a pride and success thing.

Cool
I agree with you  the quest of money has to do with what people think money is //when you gain money your  longing for the money increases

Give all before death
What is "enough" depends on the person, both on his need and his mind. Some people make more than enough for what's needed for their lifestyle and still "It's not enough". Ever wondered why some company top brass still engage in illegal schemes to make money even though they're already fuckin rich?
The quest for money really depends on what every individual sees as their priorities. Some people like to live an expensive and flamboyant lifestyle. They want the best houses, cars, clothing, and holiday location regardless of the cost. Such a lifestyle gives them fulfillment, hence they are willing to do anything to afford this type of lifestyle.

If I can provide for my family's basic needs and contribute my own quota to the development of my community, then I am content with what I have. My greatest achievement wouldn't be how much I have earned but how many lives I have touched positively and how happy I lived. And my greatest joy, for now, comes from spending time with my family and watching my children grow.

It is also quite interesting to see many billionaires giving out a large part of their wealth to charity.

Everybody is looking for money and money is never enough, the best thing is just to be contented, if you can feed yourself and your family members also get yourself some necessities then I think you have money, is not about you having millions in account, you can have millions in your account and you won’t still be contented.
Being contented is everything,  nobody is satisfied with the amount of money he or she has, if their is away people should have all the money on earth they  will go fall it. Haven't seen anybody on earth complain or sick and tire of enough money,  with these I think no money is enough but people should learn how to be contented in all they have.

There's no clear answer; it solely depends on your character or the type of person you are. However, people are generally greedy and tend to keep asking for more, never saturating their thirst for money and physical goods. Personally, I'm fine if I have enough to live comfortably. I don't care about becoming rich, famous, or owning expensive physical goods. They do not provide happiness, but only a temporary feeling of saturation. Having a quality lifetime and not having to worry about making ends meet should be enough for me. Money ought to be the tool to a healthier/better lifestyle, not our sole purpose of living.

I find setting goals about acquiring physical goods petty, they're not fulfilling. Depending on them sets you on the right path to depression and a constant need to obtain new stuff to keep you going.

I find this question to be hilarious. However, it is true that no amount of money is enough. The need for more money will never cease since everyone wants to acquire enough to be known as the richest person to have ever lived. The world's wealthiest people will simply quit growing their businesses for financial gain if there is enough money, preferring to live out the rest of their lives on the money they have already accumulated. When you’re contended with what you have you don’t need to look for money if not the struggle for more money continues until the next day you don’t wake up again. No amount of money is enough money.

Contentment is great gain.
The fact is that there's never a point where the thirst for money is ever satisfied, it's like a bottomless pit.

However, what would help you is Contentment. Do not live above your means. Do not see it as diminishing to accept that you can't afford it when you truly can't.

Above all, do not wish to be like someone else, you'll be amazed at how many people wishing to be like you.

Just be you and be kind.

But Man still have a nature that no amount of money can satisfy him, that's why no matter the amount of money one may have , their will still be taste for more.

It depends on our personality whether the money we have is enough or not, take for example Elon Musk who has a fortune of millions of dollars but he still continues to make money from his business, meaning he hasn't had enough money for that long, now money is his place greed the higher the money we have the more greedy we want to have it so we depend on our own personality how about his lifestyle.

I believe we all know that human needs are numerous but the resources to satisfy them are limited. Based on the question of OP, the only time I will think that I have had enough money is when I no longer struggle to make money when I have made enough investments that is bringing good returns to me and when money works for me and I no longer work for money I believe until I get to this point, I don't think I will say I have had or made enough money. I can also say that I have had enough money if the money I have for my savings is enough to get me all the good things I will ever desire to have till am no longer alive and my next generation will also be comfortable with the savings I have at this point I will also say that I have had enough.

At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?

For me when you own your house and the land where your house is built, that's when the time you can say you have enough money in this world. The rest are just bonuses because when you have nothing to eat, you can farm your land with enough food that you need to survive. everyone is just deluded when they want everything in this world, the truth is, you cannot have everything rather be contented with whatever you have, and you will be the richest man alive. People often say they have no money but in reality, they have, it's just they have a future plan with it and they continue to say "no" until they save enough money to buy what they want.

At the point of critical situations between life and death, when the person would have been depressed enough to realize that all he had been having are wealth enough but his unsatisfied desires makes him ingrate to realise that untill he begin to loose them gradually, the most common wealth everyone has is jot money but sound health, we failed to realise that fact not untill we are loosing it, health is wealth.

If I can have money that can make me afford anything I want, I don't lack anything and I also have money to support people in their business,  support young ones by giving them good education and also helping the aged people in my area, that's enough for me. I don't need to get all the money in the world.

The chase for money especially in this dispensation is never ending. People are willing to go all out and do anything (legal and illegal) for money these days. The real question that i am forced to ask is, how much money is enough money?

At what point will one say that he or she has had enough money?

This depends on the personality of each of us and his ambitions in his life. There are those who dream of planting their entire land with trees, which will make them always think about the sufficient amount for that, and there are those who dream of planting only part of it.

I think the question cannot be asked that way. Because each person can answer in his own way according to his needs. But if you want a general answer, enough money for any person is what provides him with his daily needs of food, housing and reproduction.

A rich person almost 100% of the time never has enough money. It's like feedback in a sound system. The more he gets, the more he wants. And he will be destroyed because of it.

What is "enough" depends on the person, both on his need and his mind. Some people make more than enough for what's needed for their lifestyle and still "It's not enough". Ever wondered why some company top brass still engage in illegal schemes to make money even though they're already fuckin rich?

Me personally I just want my basic needs met and have enough for saving to make sure I live comfortably till I die. But even then I know that people's "needs" change over time. Like for now I'm content with my 3 y/o phone that I got at around $140 at the time, who knows in the future if I'd consider buying a new iPhone every year a "basic need".

Humans are perplexing sometimes.

There is no clear-cut answer.

Money is something very funny, the more you make it, the more you feel like it's not enough to fuel your next dreams, and therefore you go out and even try to make more. It's like cocaine  Grin

Maslow's hierarchy of needs can well explain how humans are motivated to make decisions based on the needs.

No one is ever going to think I have enough money so I am going to stop accumulating it, so let's say all the money, gold and everything you see as valuable in this whole world may not be enough for one.

On the other side what is actually enough, the answer can be disturbing but I just go with the reality the money which is enough for our funeral. Lips sealed

How much money is enough money for you? If you can answer this on your own, or write it down, you can have it.  Perhaps you discovered you needed more after you have gotten this, what's next?

Man's desire is insatiable. Enough money I believe is just more money to fulfill this desire/urge/hunger/thirst. Adding value to oneself by upgrading, learning, and growing, is sure to secure one has enough and more money.

The answer here may be obvious, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth mentioning. There is no set amount of money one needs to earn, and there's no real amount of money one can earn that means that he or she has enough money. Some people will always want more money, and others will always be satisfied having enough. It largely depends upon the person and what he or she values in life. I think for many of us, as long as we can make ends meet, we will be content having enough money to maintain a home, raise a family if we choose, and have plenty of food on the table at all times. For these reasons and more, it's likely not something we will stop worrying about anyway.
