7970 hashes almost as hard as a 5970, and does it at almost 2/3rd the watts. Also, 5970's tend to break very easily, rendering 1 of the 2 cores useless... Lots of people complain about one of the cores on their 5970 being bad.

Thanks for your help Smiley

I know that changes are on the way, that's why I'm going to start with litecoin.

For now I just wont something to get me started, then if I like the way things are going I will invest in something more serious for bitcoin...

I believe that Litecoin have a great margin for profit so I'm pending between investing in hardware and buying some coins... Maybe both...

Let me just say, off topic, that this is a great thing. I just discover this world of virtual money and I'm very enthusiastic about it. This could be the answer for the world financial problems. No more control by governments and greedy bankers. Sorry if I'm offending someone ideas, but I live in Portugal and we are living in very difficult days. I'm tired to see average people paying for the greed of some corrupt politicians. It's revolting. It has to stop!!!

Thanks

The card is very good for mining. However, mining with graphics cards will become useless very soon when ASICS are released within the next month or 2
Not for litecoin. The ASICs can't be used to mine LTC in their current form.

When ASICs come out, all GPU will switch to LTC and the difficulty will grow exponentially

Or people will sell GPUs, as I'm currently in the process of doing  Cheesy

Xmax if you want to go for a GPU, yes grab a second hand 5970 this is the best mining gpu ever.

But just keep in mind that you dont have much time left for profit since ASICs are on their way.

I also have four of them and now i am trying to get rid of them..

Hi,

I'm new here... I have been reading a lot about bitcoin and litecoin and I believe that it's the future. So I wont to jump the ship Wink

I'm going to start with litecoin because it's easy to get the feel of it... At least it seems that way. No big investements needed.

What do you think of the ATI 5970? I have read here https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison that it has a better performance than newer cards, is this true?

I'm on the market for a new graphic card, and my options are, a second hand 5970 (or other older card) or a new version one.

Can anybody help me please Smiley

Thanks in advance
