It won't happen guys so calm down. I know for most of the pools would be a tempting but it won't happen ...just because we had a sudden drop in price and we already see panic sells and people spreading fud all over the social platforms doesn't mean a attack 51% will happen. Enjoy the coming bottom for q4 of 2019 and have the cash ready to make your buys ...this is what I'm thinking right now.

We are talking of billions of USD. That makes it more on the impossible side than on the possible side. This is nothing but a mere scam that creates FUD. Unless they will attack almost dead shitcoins, they are not going to make anything in this plan. This is only possible for the sake of argument and not on reality.

It is not entirely impossible for one person to do that because you can rent the hashrate on the internet(miningrigrentals, nicehash). It happened with some new small coins before, all that you need to do is surpassing the 50% hashrate on the network and making a profit from double spend.
and not totally impossible to do it on top coins, but it requires a lot of money to do that.

51% attack won't be possible to do on top coins by single person because the global hashrate are huge, obvious scam.

I plan to take control of most of the network hashrate and launch a massive attack 51% on the main network of one of the major coins in order to make a profit.

* The reward of participants depends on the success of the attack. I guarantee at least x3 of the donation amount. Payments will be distributed strictly to ETH wallets no later than 7 days after the success.

* It takes a long time to prepare, set up a mining pool and synchronize wallets. The exact date of the attack will be determined later, but not later than November 20. The coin will not be announced in advance. All information will be published in private channel.

not a sound investment proposition as you cannot even make a "gentlemen's agreement" for a criminal activity...

it's true however many PoW coins don't have the hashpower to withstand a serious 51% attack, they might benefit greatly from modifying their blockchains with the newer and more robust proof methods.
