Always ship coins in boxes...problem solved. I would never mail a Casascius in an envelope.

Agreed that this coin would be best shipped in a box at the current valuation.

I also like Og's recommendation of taping the wrapped item to the label side.

My comments have now been removed as they have derailed the Auction Slightly - the issue has been resolved, the seller refunded my coin.

no animosity and I hope the seller gets more than the current bid.

I would also recommend wrapping the item in bubble wrap/padding before putting it in the bubble mailer as I've seen the bubble mailer "bubbles" cause scratching on the air-tite during long journeys to me.

In addition to that, I also tape the wrapped item to the label side of the inside of the mailer.  That mailer could be ripped up but if that label arrives, so will the item.  Wink

I am sorry for my fast reaction, it just never happened to me that a coin got stolen out of an enveope before.

As I can't prove who has stolen the coin I decided to give TMAN a refund, even if I have a bad feeling about the whole deal.
From now on I will only ship them in a jiffy bag, what I did not do before with smaller Casascius coins (0.1 /0.5).

I think that's a good idea going forward.   Smiley

For reference, only items I ship that are very thin & below $25 in value go into a plain envelope (usually O-rings/free items like smoothie has done).  All other items go into bubble mailers for which I have a few sizes on hand.  Everything besides the plain envelopes gains tracking, items over $100 are usually always insured, items over ~$200 are insured + registered.

I would also recommend wrapping the item in bubble wrap/padding before putting it in the bubble mailer as I've seen the bubble mailer "bubbles" cause scratching on the air-tite during long journeys to me.

Also, please ensure that coins are in a capsule, bubblewrapped and then properly sealed/taped before placing it inside the jiffy bag. It might seem like overkill, but I do believe that it is good advice.

I am guessing no  escrow TMAN? I had an issue over the summer on a coin it was international shipping and tracking was not updating. The buyer was concerned and because he used no escrow I told him I would refund if the coin got lost. It was because the error was on my end. If the seller sent the coin in a paper envelope fault lies on the seller. Just my two satoshis.

Highest Bidder is now: hybridsole 1.75 BTC as TMAN has withdrawn his offer.

I won't erase previous comments from TMAN, but I won't allow him to post in any of my auctions anymore. From now on he will be excluded from all my auctions.
I shipped him an 0.5 Casascius coin, but he states that here was no coin in the envelope. I think that TMAN stole this coin himself.

Quoting for future reference. Hope you guys can find a resolution to this matter Smiley

paper envelope. Not a jiffy envelope, shipped internationally and you think I stole it?? Shall we take this to a scam thread as I have all of the pictures to prove that this is due to your poor packaging. Totally insulted that you think I would steal a .5 btc coin.

There's also no evidence the OP actually sent it.  He could have just as easily sent you an empty envelope with a rip in it.  Just the fact that he sent it in a plain envelope like that is enough to ding him.  I would start a scam thread with everything you know if he is not trying to make this right.  Why on earth would anyone send a collectible coin in a plain envelope?  Maybe they didn't.

the guy is a joker - I dont understand how he can justify it. he didn't even send it to be signed for, if I was a scammer I Would of said I didn't receive anything at all.

Let's assume the best for a moment and assume he really sent the coin in that envelope.  That is completely unacceptable right off the bat.  The only way it could be close to acceptable is if it was a free giveaway coin like smoothies monero brass coins.  Those are free, he's doing work for free and he's mailing hundreds of them for free while also minting bitcoin and monero coins.  For someone to package a Casascius coin like that is either stupid or a scammer.  The fact that he won't make it right and is blamming you lends to either of those conclusions.  So assuming the best, he is not someone you want to do business with.  Just my opinion based on the evidence so far.

That link that Hellot provided, helps you to determine the authenticity of the coin pic and to see it is still loaded (active) or it has been redeemed (empty).

I thought about, if I lower increments, but I decided I will not change it, for several reasons.
If the majority prefers lower increments, i m going to change it for my upcoming auctions.

Can you post a picture of the other side?  Also, the picture you have shows two coins, which one is for auction?

It doesn't matter to me as they have both the same quality, if you'll win you can pick  Wink
I'm going to post a photo from both coins' other side:

No coin bud. It was sent in a paper envelope, not the best idea when you ship something internationally. 20p on a jiffy envelope and it wouldn't of happened. I'm flabbergasted

I would be pissed!  What was it that you bought?

One coin to rule them all
My bid is withdrawn.

my previous buy has arrived and it was sent in a paper envelope that has been split open by someone.

http://imgur.com/a/iJYKW

this isnt acceptable packaging for items that are worth hundreds of $ - please respond to my PM and if we can get to a resolution I will come back and bid again.

please be aware buyers - shoddy packaging leads to lost coins.

Did you loose the coin? or was the coin still there despite the weak packaging.

OP, is there any chance you can lower your increments? 0.1 is quite steep.

I understand, that you think it is a bit too steep, but I would find it unfair towards the other bidders, if I change the rules during auction. Isn't it ?

I don't think this change of rule is unfair. It may only be unfair to the highest bidder, and you could ask that bidder if they want to change their bid. Of course it is up to you though! Smiley
