JFC, that guy.

I posted the photos without signing it, so not sure I can delete them now. Sorry for contributing raw material for a scammer!

crypto333: I'm working out details with therealNano, but if that doesn't work out, you can buy it for 1.1BTC (seems more fair since the winning bid was fake)

BlackJonny responded to my WTB with cropped versions of the photos you posted, posing the 2011 coin you have for sale as his own. I highly recommend you expire the Imgur link ASAP.

BlackJonny turned out to be a scammer: tried to get me to peel the coin and send him the private key, when I insisted on escrow he started a 3 way Google Hangouts conversation with a sock puppet account named "Miner Jones".

Selling to therealNano instead at the same price.

This shit sickens me to no end. I get a little bit of solace in knowing karma will spank him good at some point. I would recommend posting screen shots of the convo here using Imgur or ibb.   Will tag his account to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

I totally get the concern about fakes and I messaged minerjones about having him do escrow. If the buyer prefers an in-person hand-off, is there anything for me as a seller to watch out for?

Thanks!

Thanks! As a naive newbie, my plan was just to receive to an address generated by Coinbase. Would you recommend looking up the transaction directly once it looks like it has arrived and checking the number of confirmations?

Given the types of questions you are asking, I think it would be in your best interest to use an escrow at this point.  Especially since you listed it on ebay which tells me either you are not necessarily worried about the fees or you do not have a preference of receiving btc vs. cash. Or you think you can get a higher premium on ebay and that outweighs the fees (which is certainly possible). However, the fees and risk you are taking with ebay are much greater than just paying a good escrow to begin with, imho.

Also, there's no reason the buyer could not pick up in-person from an escrow either. So if a potential buyer is insisting on an in-person pickup vs using an escrow, this should serve as a red flag for you.

Just my 2 sats. Good luck with the sale.

Just make sure the transaction confirms! As a buyer in these situations I always massively over pay on the transaction fee to make sure its in the next block, make sure you check the mempool before hand, fee's have been high as fuck lately.

Krogoth's post about fake Casascius coins.

If in doubt, use an escrow. Its a small price to pay.

I've done hand offs in a police station. The issue is, are you really sure you would know how to spot a fake? Which is my escrow like MJ is always good, he's more likely to notice a fake than most people.

I'm in Durham, NC -- not sure about the etiquette of local hand offs but I'll read about it and see what's recommended.

I think I just enabled newbie PMs, ping me here again if that didn't work?

My friend gave me a Casascius coin in 2011 as a gift and I didn't think much of it until Bitcoin started making news later. Selling it now, starting at 1.1BTC. I'm new to this forum (and I guess bitcoin more generally), so please let me know if something is wrong with how I formatted this auction post.
