The coin is fake. In 1747 they hammered hot silver and gold coins making them Imperfect. The coin in the picture is round and looks to be the same thickness all around.

I don't think the coin is fake. The coins are selling for ~$20 on Ebay.

Interested in the coin but would you let someone authenticate it. Last thing i need is a fake coin which the money doesnt matter, its the fact of getting one over'd on.

NGC and PCGS will both grade and authentic such a coin. Outside of that, you would need quite a bit of experience with that series of coins to properly determine authenticity.
That said, in my opinion, the coin in the OP has spent a good deal of time submerged in salt water.
I do understand how to find out what coin it's supposed to be, my question is more specific - let me clarify.
Will any coin dealer be able to verify if this coin is authentic or a replica? My local coin dealer can definitely authenticate US or popular world coins, but I'm wondering if a specialist would be required for this type of coin.

It looks like an actual coin from the shipwreck.. But let me call down a buddy of mine who's an expert in shipwreck coins to determine if it's the real deal or a replica.
