Would it be possible to use non-alphabetical symbols?

e.g. a mark of -2021

That’s a great question. We’ll stick with alphabetic characters for now. That’s more authentic for a mint mark. Plus, I think that numbers, especially the example you gave of “2021” may be too confusing printed directly below the date of “2020.”

Hey sir, I’d like to switch my desired mark back to MOON. I’m still internally debating on what to select to be honest, but if a mark is required to accompany the bid, then please allow me to switch the .087 bid to MOON. Thank you!

Good morning, Moonie.

I'm happy to switch your mint mark choice back to MOON. However, please feel free to change it again if you like. Your choice is not set in stone until we place the order with the mint. (Technically, at that point, it's set in .999 fine copper, but you get the idea.) Wink

As an update, tothemoonsands is still the current highest bidder @ .087 BTC with 4.5 days left in this auction!

Free market??  By that thinking you'd be ok with c*nt or wh*re on the Penny.  If you believe that would be ok because of "free market" over business practice .... YOU ARE A MORON!!  How about stop pushing political anything into this space.  I'm guessing BCP would reject Bush or Obama as well to keep politics out as well....

That is an interesting false equivalence you have there between profanity and The President of The United States. Of course allowing such a bid would most certainly drive the price up much further, but people you don't agree with are verboden. In this case a petty sense of control does trump the free market. Who pays the price? In this case the retailer. Hopefully it was worth it. Everyone knows democratic societies regularly ban the representation of opposition right? Of course.

I will assume by your lack of reply you aren't interested in my bid.

Good morning, TECSHARE. Smiley

I wasn't ignoring you, I just stepped away last night and forgot to reply. It's morning now, so I'll do my best to answer your question. (WARNING: I haven't had a single sip of coffee yet, so my answers may ramble or make little sense.)

It might be a good idea to require a public statement of the initials/word with each bid and accept or reject them before the auction finishes, otherwise essentially one could just use those bids to drive the price up then reject them for a inscription more personally favorable to the manufacturer while still keeping the inflated price. I am not suggesting BitcoinPenny would do this, but there really would be no way to know for sure. Can you please confirm if you would accept or reject this submission?

I think you make a solid point (even without my morning coffee). However, please know that I am always willing to openly and publicly reject a mint mark suggestion. I've done it plenty of times in the past, and I'll do it in this auction too, if the occasion arises.

But I think that you're asking for me to set an official rule on the matter, which may be a wise idea. Therefore and henceforth, if a mint mark is given with a bid, then I will officially and publicly accept or reject that mint mark. I do believe that is the wisest policy, TECSHARE. Thank you for sharing it. Smiley

(EDIT: Please assume the mint mark was accepted if I post a mockup.)

Regards and Happy Bidding,
Chris

PS — As quoted above, I think that you were specifically referring to the previous bid where the mint mark suggestion was TRUMP. That's a tricky bid, for many political and moral reasons. However, I will enthusiastically state here and now that I will never mint the name TRUMP on any BP product.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I regret you are unwilling to offer a free market bid for your product and instead would rather choose your personal political beliefs over business operations.

I would also like to invalidate all my other (non-MITCH) bids. They were meant as a joke, as I knew that the auction price would go much higher than that. Furthermore, I believe that politics have no place in Bitcoin. Of course, anyone is free to disagree with that, but I wanted to make this clear.

I believe that in this case, bid stands (is not rejected), the winner just needs to choose another initials/word.
I get what you are saying here. IMO it's more like accepted or rejected words, rather than more/less preferred ones by the maker. However, BitcoinPenny is the "official" here to answer that

Thank you for your completely ineffectual interjection. The same problem still applies, if the bidder can not get their preferred initials, then obviously that would effect the willingness to bid, as well as the amount.

Are you a bidder?

No, but seeing as an auction is an open offer to contract, I am an interested party regardless.

(The 2019 Canvas Bank Bag filled with an amazing 100 AMD Commemorative Coins!)

Welcome to the FIFTH ANNUAL BitcoinTalk Community Mint Mark Auction to see YOUR NAME minted on THOUSANDS of Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins!

***

It's almost the new year, and 2020 will be our MOST EXCITING year to date! So many exciting new changes, projects, and collaborations with several thousands more coins circulating the planet! Plus, our coins are getting a HUGE upgrade for 2020 and beyond!

Starting in 2020, our entire Copper Collection — Commemorative Coins as well as Mini Physicals — will be made from a stunningly mirror-polished .999 Fine Copper and will increase in size to a full 25mm for an even more impressive POCKET BLING! (See the beautiful photos of our 2020 sample coins HERE!)

***

As most of you know, our inaugural 2015 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coin had the mint mark "CJB" minted below the date on the front of the coin. Every year since, we've auctioned that same mint mark space to the highest bidder, and every year we have a TON of fun doing it! Previous winners include:

DaveF who chose the name "DAVE" to be minted on our 2016 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins! (That's why the 2016 coin is commonly called the DAVE coin!)

Greenplastic who chose the phrase "IRIE" to be minted on our 2017 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins! (That's why the 2017 coin is commonly called the IRIE coin!)

DaveF, our two-time winner, who sweetly chose his wife’s name "JULIE" to be minted on our 2018 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins as THE most crypto-romantic Christmas gift EVER! (That's why the 2018 coin is commonly called the JULIE coin!)

Ticked who chose the very special initials “AMD” to memorialize his beloved late mother on our 2019 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins. (You should hear the story of Ticked and his family’s year-long journey with these special coins. It’s amazing!)

This year, the winner could be YOU!

***

THE AUCTION

For 2020, we're minting ONE LUCKY WINNER'S choice of NAME or INITIALS on the fronts of all our standard 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins and Mini Physicals! (That's a guaranteed minimum of 4,000 coins!) That's right! The highest bidder in this auction will win the privilege of seeing his / her short name or initials of choice minted on the fronts of at least FOUR THOUSAND of our new 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins and Mini Physicals!

What initials will YOU have minted on the NEW 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins?

BONUS: The winning bidder will receive one (1) FREE 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Classic Roll and one (1) FREE 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Mini Physicals Short Roll filled with their very own [YOU] coins as a special THANK YOU!

NOTE: This auction is for our standard mint Commemorative Coins and Mini Physical coins only. We guarantee a minimum quantity of 4,000 minted and released for the 2020 inventory.

NOTE: We reserve the right to refuse any choice of initials which we deem to be morally offensive (eg. ASS) or unfavorable to bitcoin or the bitcoin community. Additionally, each new year must be represented by a new name or set of initials. Since "CJB", “DAVE", “IRIE”, “JULIE”, and “AMD” have been used for years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 (respectively), those choices are invalid for the NEW 2020 Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins and Mini Physicals.

Additionally, to insure that your winning NAME choice is legible on the final product, we suggest 2-3 characters with a maximum of four (4) characters. In rare cases, we MAY be able to fit up to five (5) characters, but only if that NAME contains more than one skinny character, such as "MIIIS" or similar.

NOTE: We reserve the right to reject any bid / bidder for any matter of good conscience.
