Got myself an R9 290 and currently mining altcoins, getting about 0.01BTC per day which isnt bad i guess. It pays for the electricity at least.
BTC price is going up so fingers crossed it takes off like some are saying.

Re Coinjar.io taking time to accept

Most Australian banks will delay a direct transfer between 2 of its accounts for 24 hours,
if it is the first time the first account has sent anything to the second.

Im not completely convinced of the logic behind it, but thats how it is.

As an update to this, first deposit took over 24 hours to show up on coinjar and second took about 4 hours. Both were NAB to NAB transfers via internet banking.
Not sure how they'd take if it was a deposit at a NAB branch though.

now there is a great sydney meet up on meetup.com called talk and trade bitcoin that meets in sydney on wednesday nights, great people organize it and oftern have a speaker.

Mining bitcoin isnt really worth it using gpus IMHO. but many of the altcoins can be profitable.
its always a gamble, but my $100 ati 5770 videocard was mining about $5 a day of altcoins during this months spike.
I have used coinjar with a $500 cash deposit and the bitcoins where in my acount in about 5-10 minutes.
if purchasing during a big rush this could take longer.

There is the chance of getting significant amounts of altcoins during launch but it can take time to wait for a good one.
beware of the many "scamcoins" ATM that are premined, justbitcoin clones, or manipulated to show a large market cap.

i always have ads up buying at a discount (10+ below bitstamp price) and you actually build some good relationships and meet some characters

Another Aussie here Grin

I have been watching bitcoins and alts for a little while now and am wondering which sites you guys are using to buy/sell btc with $'s?
Have tried coinjar.io but they seem really slow to accept deposits. Would prefer Australian based if possible, not too keen on doing internation transfers etc.
Do you guys have any tips?

there have been several people mining and
graet owned one of the biggest mining pools Ozcoin
I don't know if as many are now it's a heavy hardware race. but definitely there is potiensal in altcoin if get in early.
as far as opportunities, arbitaging between localbitcoins.com and coinjar.io,
also there is trading altcoins
there are so many opportunities out there, I'd stop kicking your self and work out what works for you!
selling stuff for bitcoin, especially if it's something no one is already selling.

Hi all
Ive known of bitcoin for around 2 years now but never did anything about it until now. Kicking myself I know.
Was going to mine initially but at that time ASIC miners were starting to kick in and its impossible to get one, especially in Oz.
So i forgot about it until recently when the price shot up.
Trading seemed the other option so I tried to get signed up on an exchange.
So far im only referenced checked on 1, still waiting on some others.
Getting cash into it was another hassle, so I ended up just buying some B on localbitcoins and transferred directly to my wallet on the exchange.
Paid a premium for the B but I guess it was my only option.

Anyway im actively trading now, just learning the ropes....charting etc
