HOW TO SAVE THESE SETTINGS SO THAT EVEN IF THE AVALON 1066 PRO (IN MY CASE) SHUTS OFF, WHEN IT TURNES ON AGAIN, THE SETTINGS COME BACK AUTOMATICALLY.

Currently, we don't have a permanent solution for this, Canaan didn't release any commands to permanently save the parameter you sent via the FMS app.

If you want to push your miner and improve hashrate I suggest use the performance mode under pool configuration.
That's the only permanent solution to keep your miner run in high-performance mode.

good evening to all.

Sorry if the writing isn't perfect. I don't speak English.

I've been researching a lot on this subject, and I haven't found anything as simple as that, and it's very sad for us to realize that even nowadays, with so much information on the internet, that companies don't care about promoting and explaining their own products, services and derivatives.

I managed to use these codes, for example: " [{"command":"ascset", "parameter":"0,hashpower,1295"}] " but there is a problem. when the equipment is restarted, the settings return to their original state.

I researched and studied the cgminer settings to put in "CGMiner Configuration / More Options", but it seems that nothing runs as it should...

My question is simple and objective and I would appreciate anyone who can solve my question and help other people who, from what I researched, have the same problem:

HOW TO SAVE THESE SETTINGS SO THAT EVEN IF THE AVALON 1066 PRO (IN MY CASE) SHUTS OFF, WHEN IT TURNES ON AGAIN, THE SETTINGS COME BACK AUTOMATICALLY.

Thank you so much for your answer. I will try lowering the power limit with your command, just did in fact. Fingers crossed that this may help solve the rebooting issue. What's the use of having a slightly higher hash rate if it goes down for 15 minutes straight several times a day, right?

I confused the word "bracket" [ ] with " " ... I think? Not English native, so still learning a few words everyday... Smiley

About the chips temperature, I would like to learn to take out the hash boards and clean and repaste (see video below for the 1066-50, I bet it must be pretty similar to the 1246)... Of course I would start with a less expensive machine to get practice, but the only video I could find that shows clearly how to do it is in Russian... and I could not tell what the product he used to submerge the board was since I can't read the label on the bottle he shows...

Any idea?

I have tried to issue commands using the FMS software (there seems to be three versions on their website, none of which worked for me). I enter the following "[{"command":"ascset","parameter":"0,fan-spd,75"}] " (without the brackets) in the text box, I click Run and then it seems to get stuck saying "Running commands ..." I wish I knew what I am doing wrong.

Actually, it will not work if you remove the brackets it should be the whole command including the brackets below

Code:
[{"command":"ascset","parameter":"0,fan-spd,90"}]

About the aging never heard any issue with using it constantly and actually, your miner is running at performance mode which is higher than the expected hash rate.

Why not try to adjust the power a bit down to avoid the strange behavior of your miner. Use this command below

Code:
[{"command":"ascset", "parameter":"0,hashpower,1260"}]

That is a power limit you can adjust it to lower and the hash rate will drop a bit but I'm sure the temp will also drop a bit.

Edit: After multiple tries, I was able to run the command, hard to tell what caused it to always timeout before... Still strange that the firmware would not handle temperature too well. And even stranger that the only way to get an updated firmware that would possibly fix the fan behavior (?) for this model seems to be by contacting them and getting them to send it by email (but my machine is second hand... so what are the odds of that working out I wonder...)

Update: since forcing fans to run at 75 the speed is now 82-83TH I hope it stays like that and stops rebooting every 12h or so...

Hello,

My current issue is that the fans of my Avalon 1246-81T are running at 60% with some chips nearing 80C... while my other two 1066-50 have their fans running at 70-80% and their hottest chips barely going over 70C ... I would like my 1246 fans forced to run faster, and I tried to use the info from this thread, unsuccessfully :/

My machine has also been acting strange. The most runtime I have seen without a random reboot is approximately 12 hours straight. Inevitably, there comes a time where the ping becomes crazy high sometimes in the 5 digits. I should say that there are 4 other miners running on the same ethermet network switch, and this 1246 is the only one with this issue. Development: I realized that I had setup my Asus router with a custom DNS (pihole, running from a raspberry pi to block adds network wide) and that device has died and I forgot about its existence... so I changed my router's DNS to 1.1.1.1 as suggested on another thread. And while the number of rejected shared has gone done significantly, it's doing it again today. I am trying to do another Aging. I also wonder if it can break the machine to use that command too often. I also wonder if it makes sense to run the process while the room temperature is rather warm instead of colder (since it would "tune" each chip to the highest possible frequency that does not make it overheat.

My highest chip is 81C hot, and the other two boards are around 75.

I hope I am posting my question at the right place, new to (actively) using a forum like this one.

Any help is very much appreciated, I am scared the machine will die or need repair. Hope I can do something  to keep it alive for as long as possible

Where did you find these commands? How would I test putting the fans back to auto? Change to "1,fan-spd,100" ?
THANKS!!!
OC

Someone share it here so credit to him and this command is not permanent you can just shut down the miner and run it again or replug the miner from the outlet the settings will revert back to the original settings.

Or if you don't want to shut down the miner you can change the fan-spd to 0 and I think it will switch back to auto.

If that fan is automatically adjusted to a different speed without temp changes then you can try this one below

Install FMS tool and go to diagnostic and put this command below

[{"command":"ascset","parameter":"0,fan-spd,100"}]

Fan speed will be fixed to 100% you can change it depending on your ASIC temp status.

You can download the FMS tool from this link https://download.canaan-creative.com/fms/
Download the latest one and let see if it will fix your issue.
Hey BitMaxz!!
I just got an old window 10 box and I just remembered your comment, AWESOME. I did just what you said and settled on a 40% fan speed. Wow what a difference not having that oscillating tone. Also switching to slushpool seems to have solved the BOOTBY 11 problem.

Where did you find these commands? How would I test putting the fans back to auto? Change to "1,fan-spd,100" ?
THANKS!!!

Thought I'll append to this as well my issue, if thats ok.

On Dec 31st my 1246 (85Th) was not hashing, PVT_T0,T1, T2 were reading -273.  It resolved it self after about 30 minutes.

Since then it has been rebooting every ~30 hours.  My other 1246's are running fine.  Machines are relatively new.  Its the May2021 batch, that I got into my hands in November. I can't seem to find the BootBy code either of 0x21. I've pasted my log below, can any of the experts give me an idea what may be going on? Really appreciate it

Those logs are abnormal and according to your statement, it seems that there are some damaged components. How did you clean them?
If you just clean them with water and soap then you make your problem worst you should use liquid that is applicable only for Electronics like petrol or Lacquer flo thinner.

I believe that there are some shorted components from your hashboard if you have known working hashboard you can compare the resistance between good and bad hashboard.

Mostly dust and humidity can cause a short circuit that could lead to burnt parts. Try to focus on the parts where you see the sticky thing and dust compare them with known working hashboard.

First of all thanks for the response. I know what you are saying and these are my thoughts as well. To clean some of the components I used contact cleaner which is used on circuits in order to avoid corrosion and shorting.
Since I am a noob (frequently repaired pcs however) at Avalon Repairs, I attach another picture of the PSU. Could that also be a PSU issue? The unit itself turns on, I just want to be sure how to identify the source of the problem.

I attach two pictures for your consideration. The PSU shows a red led light. Next logical step would be to:

  • Check if voltage goes on the the hashboards from the PSU with a multimeter. Do you know where are the contacts the hashboard gets power from?
  • Remove the heatsinks, clean everything with contact cleaner liquid and reapply thermal paste.

Thanks.

Stop using the prohashing and go to a proper Bitcoin pool!
Like eg.  Kano.is, Viabtc or Slush

I feel like lots of these Avalon problem cases we forum members have tried to help at lately,  are actually related to the user using a crap multi moving pool like prohashing, nicehash...

Why must you fist yourself in this ass like that?

Happy New Year! I wanted to contact you directly but did not find the way.

Let's give you something proper to check!

I have 2 x Avalon Miners A1246. They work in a really rough environment (I had no where else to put them) where it has a lot of dust / straw particles and lately due to winter a lot of humidity. One of them, after an Internet blackout failed to come back on. What I suspect happened is that that particular night had a lot of humidity, the miner did not have Internet connection and therefore it run cold (no hashing) for 3-4 hours. The fans were working therefore the humidity was entering normally. I cracked the miner open today and the hash boards are in a really bad condition. Dust everywhere, sticking around all the circuit components throughout the boards. I cleaned all the connections and components on the top of the hash board where the cable connects to the board but nothing changed. What do you suggest I do? My next option is to remove the heat sinks clean and put thermal paste again but I am not sure how I should preform this kind of cleaning. Would a contact cleaner spray be okay? I attach my error log for consideration. I will try and take pictures as well. I would appreciate if there is a way to contact you through a private message. If you prefer I can start a different thread. Thanks

I should have gone to Tech Support eariler. Over there is an update to the Log Discription for the BOOTBY field. It gives the actual translation!
So on my 1246 the BOOTBY value is 11 which is "No hashrate in 5 minutes". So now the question is...is this a A1246 problem, a network problem or Prohashing problem.

I see a field on Prohashing under Mining for this miner called "Restart Delay". My guess was this is the time to switch tasks hashing to a different coin or new block (not real clear on the technical details here).

Does this sound reasonable or am I off in left field?

Maybe this is good news?

Thanks everyone, I had figrured I needed a windows box to make things easier and I don't want extra stuff on my macbook so I do have an appointment to get a windows 10 laptop either later today or monday. About what that ebay price but I like local when I can.

That silly 1246 rebooted 4 times in the past 24hrs. Takes about 4minutes to get reconnected and hashing. I did throttle it back to "Normal Mode" yesterday afternoon to let it run a little cooler.

I'm heading over to Canaan tech support to figure out "flashing firmware" Smiley
Thank again
Happy New Year

My bad I didn't notice that you only have Macbook but I think you can run exe file on Macbook there are some guides there that you can follow.

Try to check this one https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/how-run-windows-apps-on-mac-3660718/

Or you can try winebottler follow the guide here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqL9aHgd6FA

Then FMS tool can be download here https://download.canaan-creative.com/fms/

he needs the fms tool

which means he needs a cheap windows laptop

https://www.ebay.com/itm/275076397341?

$249  will run the programs you need and compared to the $8000 for the 1246

do not be |stupid cheap| or 'penny wise pound foolish'

According to your logs under PVT_T1 it exceeds the maximum chip temp above 85c the first hashboard seems fine and in the 3rd hashboard some chips reach 85c which is the maximum temp of each chip.

And look at these logs

Code:
Fan1[3060] Fan2[3087] Fan3[3078] Fan4[3099] FanR[37%]]Fan1[3060] Fan2[3087] Fan3[3078] Fan4[3099] FanR[37%]

It's running at a very low fan speed of 37% so my suggestion above should solve your issue or you can try to flash with the latest firmware I don't know why it didn't detect overheating and automatically adjust itself to a higher fan speed maybe it's because of the old firmware version. So flashing it with the latest firmware might also fix your issue.

I just did a 20min power off then boot up. Also added a box fan to blow over the Avalon. I'm confused as to how it could jump to that high temp when every time I'm check they are like now at T=25C, H0=73C, H1=78C, H2=74C. The basement air temp is 64F and where the miner is a couple lower.  Getting some qaulity time looking at that web interface  Grin Thanks a million!

If Tmax is overheating it reaches 89c then it will give you some failure or it might shut down the hashobard and the miner will automatically reboot.

If you can improve the airflow in your room or you can adjust the fan speed then it might solve your issue.

Actually, without the API logs we can't troubleshoot what exactly your problem is but if you can post the whole API logs here and maybe we can exactly give you some suggestion to fix your issue.
Use pastebin.com if you have limit posting the whole API logs here and paste the URL here.

Thanks for those suggestions.
Another data point. It just rebooted and this time I immediatly copied the log file. I believe it rebooted due to a spurious temperture signal. TMAX was 89C and yet on reboot it was back to the normal 75C. I've been keeping the web viewer open and looking at temps and what not whenever I think about it and the temps are steady. The unit is located in the basement and there is no external heat source. Also it just running stock firmware 21102801_4ec6bb0_ea6647e.

So far it rebooted 3 time since yesterday, 12/30/21 @ 14:35, 12/31/21 @ 6:16 and 12:27

I'll give that FMS tool a try! and report back!

Happy New Year!!!

New to mining and just got my 1246 up and running on the 28th. It hash rate is 86TH/s on "High Performance" mode and 72TH/s on "Normal Mode" it's making money so good  Grin

But it's fans are cycling from about 2200rpm to 2800rpm about every 20sec. Also it has "rebooted" twice for no appeant reason. It's running cool enough I believe, high is 75C on H0 and H1 and 73C on H2.
Is this normal?
Thanks

did it reboot twice
in an hour
in a day
in a week

in an hour is an issue
in a day not so much
in a week no worries

not sure why the fans are pluseing every 20 sec

i think there is a way to set a fixed speed say 50%

there was a thread that mentioned it
