R4 at same price, current 11.85 S9 batch selling for LESS than the R4.

Is BitMain ever going to get a bloody CLUE?

It's simple...they are trying to sell the s9's before the r4's

I don't think that we will see a decrease in r4 price until either the s9's are all gone or the a7 is released

Electrical engineer. Mining since 2014.
I'll bet it'll be delayed for at least another two weeks, if not more- I doubt they even have production up. At least there's no preorders, that would've gotten out of hand quickly.

I was watching at bitmain and saw ALL their S9 / R4 were sold at same time last friday... I think they are specting some news, too (from A7 or something). I wanna see what happend with the price of the new batch...  Roll Eyes
Ant R4 is available again with the same price 1395USD.
edit: yeah, new S9 batches available as well now, with HIGHER price than previous batches.

I think we're all pretty burnt on the concept of pre-ordering.

Well, we're approaching the middle of September but still no sign of Avalon A7.

Are they a vaporware?

No  vaporware is only if you pay for it as far as I know they did not ask for pre order money.

Based on previous recent Avalon, the 6 will cost a little more/MH than the S9 but will be a more robust (in most ways, their CONTROL stuff always left me very uncomfortable) and possibly more configurable design.

I wouldn't count on them being actual competition in a way that would push S9 pricing down.

As long as it doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner I'm sold.

That is assuming we still can purchase gear at a consumer/hobby level.   With them being purchased for big money I have figured they are focused on internal mining first, and I could be wrong I just figure it is biggest factor when being bought as that they can guarantee.  People buying from outside I would guess is hard to factor due to Bitmain seeming to underprice them in past I agree on that.

I am hoping us hobby miners can still get gear.  But I am not holding my breath/time as it is really all still up in the air and we know very very little about current setup, or even how long till they have a working current gen miner.

New gear is welcome.   I would pick up a piece or two.  I would also run a group buy like I did with the  Avalon6

If you do so, count me in for a piece or two...

Adjustable chip voltage and it will be a hit...

that would be the 4.1 design

yeah if it would go as low as .085 watts and as high as .12watts it would have real value

Not sure if Avalon could pull something like that off, but if the stats were at least close to that and had enough hashpower, it'd sell out pretty quick. Even the price'll be a factor this time around- will they sell it at a decent price, or only to bulk buyers? The 4.1 was a pretty nice miner with a good design; i'd like to have something like that back. Overall I just like Avalon. Smiley

I am guessing they will design them for internal use in mind.   I'm going to guess it will be closer to Avalon 6 and not have the voltage adjust ability we loved in 4.1.   I hope I am wrong but I don't see them going back in design.

We still don't know if they will sell to general public after being bought.  Has any info on this part came out?  I have not seen it but again I have had a busy week so could have missed it.

The only problem I see with this is the fact that Bitmain has such a strong hold on the market. Unless they have an efficiency rivaling the S9's efficiency, it's unlikely that any major farms will sell for Avalons.

Unless Avalon makes these miners insanely efficient and has big features that rival the S9s, I don't see these being too popular with all the hype Bitmain has made already in the 16nm zone. Avalon has surprised us in the past, so it is still a possibility that they come up with something good this time. I hope their build quality is the same. Avalon actually made a very reliable miner out of the 4.1 and 6.

They also were purchased for a great deal of money on Avalon.   Which leads us to think they have something worth buying... how far away who know's.  Also with being purchased we really don't know if they will even mess with small sell's.  I would imagine they would focus on getting internal mining up once they do have a new miner ready.

The question then becomes if they do bulk sell's to big mines, and also if they do small sells to miners.  With buyout we really do not know on this we can speculate but I don't think info has been released on this.

Folks,

Today I read the news that Shandong Luyitong Intelligent Electric PLC (the company that intends to acquire Canaan) had disclosed their correspondence to Shenzhen Stock Exchange's queries on this transaction. This lengthy document can be found from SZ stock exchange (http://www.szse.cn/UpFiles/fxklwxhj/NMK30042314281255HF.pdf).

On page 39/119, a paragraph outlined their plans for the remaining of 2016, including a status update of their 16nm miner progress.

Apparently they have completed the prototype and specification. The new generation of AvalonMiner will use chips from TSMC. They expect first batch of the chips to arrive in mid-to-late August, then the first batch of AvalonMiner sale would commence in September. Expected sales volume will be 80k to 100k.

Thoughts?

always good to get more miners in the market. A6 is a rock.

So are the 4.1's they are dated at this point.  I don't have free electricity unfortunately or I would have kept them.  They were only miner I actually got asked multiple times if I did anything to video I had posted to make it that quiet... and I had not.  Was a while before my mining area when I was still having miners all around the house.

I think them being bought out might be a indication they have something ready to come out.   But I don't want to get any hopes up as we don't know after being purchased if still will do sell's to small miners.   Also having chips and getting a miner out are two different things bitfury has shown this.

I wouldn't care at all what the Avalon 7 will be priced at, it's always nice to see some other company make miners other than Bitmain. Avalon miners ran very well and their build quality set them apart from the rest. As long as their miners have decent efficiency and we're actually built with the old care they built them with, the 7 should be a good miner.

I just hope the Avalon 16nm will not be as expensive as the S9. That will create good competition.

I rather they go the ways they used to do.

Price it a bit worse then the s-9.

For me slower growth due to high  priced gear is better then dirt cheap miners.

Only people with a lot of power cheap do well with cheap miners. Since they can always grow a bit.

Ie of you are running 50 s-7 miners at five cents.  Competing s-9 and Avalon 7 should help you.

But if have ten or less s-7 at five cents and can not increase your power cap low priced gear hurts your bottom line.

I really hope this is true.
Competition is always a good thing. One company being the only manufacturer of 16nm chips means they can charge whatever they want.

If the price of miners goes down, how does this affect the price of bitcoin?
Say the miners are a couple hundred dollars cheaper than an S9 unit...
More people buy miners or upgrade their gear.
More people have more hash power, but I guess the difficulty gets adjusted to match?

Didn't this company get bought out by Bitmain ?

No. Where the heck did you come up with THAT insanity?

I AM somewhat shocked that Avalon anticipates hitting the market that soon - with the lead they handed Bitmain, Bitfury, etc on the 14/16nm full custom generation I didn't expect to see an Avalon member of that generation before end of the year timeframe.

 Let The Competition Begin!

(hopefully before September when Bitfury gets off it's rear with IT'S new chip, or BW gets their LK-1402 chips into miners and actually starts SELLING some miners).
