Thanks everyone for their kind answers, I have research a little more on the raspberry pi, and I think I can handle installation on my own. One more question though, this one is a bit tricky, as long as the electricity is safe and is not cut off, would be possible to mine 24/h and leave home for a vacation while the miner is still running? or would it be risky due to fire safety, cooling etc.?

Okay  if I did this  and I have I would have  the gear in fire proof area.

not on a rug next to a curtain.

here is a good material  fire resistant.

They are as safe as any high-power electrical device can be. Provided all wiring is the correct size and the miners are not sitting on or next to something flammable there are zero issues leaving them home alone.

Hello, here is yet another newbie to bother you with silly questions. I am sort of new to ASICs, and decided to take advantage of Avalons new batch of miners. I already have a high quality 80 plus platinium PSU, but it has only 1200 watts of power (Corsair hx1200). On the Canaan's webpage, it states that this machine uses 1150 watts of power, would it still run at least when I underclock this ASIC?

Also, I did not buy a controller with the machine, so I am regretting it because it apparently was the interface where you control the miner, would it be possible to run the miner without a controller, for example with a laptop instead?  or a controller is a must to have for 24-hour mining?

Thanks for answers! BTC

I have a spare rasp pi

I also have one more 741 on order.

If you want and can wait  until say fri  the 28th  when the new order arrives I could sell the spare rasp pi preprogrammed to you.

You can plug the USB into a PC and then run cgminer on it. It won't, however, have a nicely polished UI.

Should add that you also have to get a 5V wall wart to power the Pi and that Canaan does not supply that with their Pi. Just search for   RasPi PSU   and go from there. Most put out 5V 2.5A and have the correct micro-usb cable supplying the power.

Being new also time to clarify terminology for you: It is ASIC-based miner (as opposed to CPU/GPU based miners). ASIC stands for Application Specific Integrated Circuit and when talking about miners the word ASIC by itself is only referring to the type of calculator chips used.

You should be fine with the Corsair and stock frequency setting, the number 1150 Watts is power at wall (with 93% PSU efficiency @ 25 C).

You need to buy a Raspberry Pi 1, 2 or 3 plus other stuff needed (see in the edited part of this post) and follow instructions found at www.canaan.io
https://canaan.io/question/how-do-i-connect-an-avalonminer-721-and-avalonminer-controller-including-raspberry-pi-1-2-and-3/

You can also buy their AvalonMiner Controller, which actually is just a ready-to-go Raspberry Pi 3 in a cool metal case.

edit:
I did little digging, here is also my old post in this thread if this info helps you out with the controller
