apparently ASIC manufacturers are going the way of car manufacturers in that some of them are advertised way over-spec and some others are advertised under-spec.

I will have a real comparison for you in 2 months. But so far, I can say that the Avalons are much faster from buying-->shipping-->getting started. as compared to the S9s. I don't think I understand the way Bitmain runs business but they don't seem to be an ASIC manufacturer so much so as a mining company that also sells ASICs on the sideline

You have to look at the 0.16 Joules/GigaHash at the wall the avalon 741 is 60% less efficient. So it really depends on your electricity per kw/h
false

no s-9 does .1 watts

the do .12  and avalon does .16  that is 33 percent not 60%

Try skimming through Bitmain's s9 thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitmains-released-antminer-s9-worlds-first-16nm-miner-ready-to-order-1493601 looking at the reliability issues with them and then decide for yourself.

For the most part the Avalons run with near-zero issues. The same cannot be said about the s9's.
Plus, the Avalons are readily available from Canaan whereas Bitmain now sells using pre-order, produces in batches that sellout in a day or 2 and are not scheduled to be delivered for over a month or more.
Ok thanks

So i just read a topic about this brand new miner the avalon 741 and im trying to find which one would be a better investment everything points to the bitmain's miner as you are getting 13.5Th/s

So we have the S9 13.5 TH/s for 1099$
Vs
The avalon 741 7.3TH/s for 714$

So it my math is ok on the S9 you are paying 81$ Per TH/s (1099$/13.5)

instead of the avalon that you're paying 97.8$ per TH/s (714$/7.3TH/s)

If anyone has something to say about this im all ears! Also not to mention that the power consumption is similar so if we are talking of large scale i don't find sense of an Avalon occuping a scpace that coould be used by a S9.
