After I cleared the cache/cookies/browsing history and restarted the browser the avatar is visible again.
Most of Avatar related problems is due to caching delete it, and/or restart your browser and the problem will be solved.

This is the first time I've had problems with an avatar, and it was especially weird to see the avatars of all the other members except my own. Please note that this is not a new uploaded avatar that takes some time to show up.

Try a hard refresh: CTRL-F5.

That will do the work most probably as if there's some issues while changing avatar also or it not being displayed the hard refresh with Ctrl -F5 is the solution and you will the see the changes.It works fine here.
I have checked the same way @Lucius said through Profile> check post for myself and Avatar is visible to me as for him also.So just clearing the cache will reload the page and it will be visible to you.

This solves the issue. It is mostly cache issues. That is why you need to hard refresh it to clear those caches and download the new one. If it still does not work, try it on another browser or try it on another device. As you can see, most of us stated that it is already showing. It is just on your end (client side) that it isn't working. I do experience this mostly if I change signature campaigns. This is really what I do or I just wait for it to reflect on my end.

I see it clearly the same as what your wearing now in this thread and on that thread. Maybe just a couple of force refresh will do the work?

I noticed that my avatar is not displayed in case I access the post through the path Profile -> Show Post - no post I access that way shows an avatar... As far as I've seen, the avatars of other members are displayed correctly.
