Our agricultural sector use to be one of the most viable sector that boasted our economy in the past but since the advent of crude oil and the evolution into this digital age, most youth have lost interest in the agricultural sector especially those from the southern part of the country.

Wetin government don really do to make people go into farming. See no be only southern part but the country agricultural imput to GDP don drop and that na because of insecurity. People for Northern part don comot mind for agriculture because of the fear of being killed or kidnapped, so na general thing and na government never dey serious to help agriculture.
I totally agree with you boss, with news of farmers and herdsmen crisis, I know it's going to seriously affect those that are into farming in the northern part to a very large extent and so many others that might have interest in taking fqrmjng as an occupation might start shifting thier interest because of the lack of safety that supposed to be guaranteed by the government. But these are things the government should have normally looked into and put out modalities in place that will see to it that those agriculturally viable regions are protected and invested into so that the country can depend more on locally made goods rather than importing things we have the ability and resources needed to producing locally. Those police men that are standing on the highway extortingoney from poor citizens, can't they post them to secure those farming site and ensure that farmers are adequately protected? I'm particular interested in depending more on our local product because I know we are blessed with abundant of resources that if effectively earnesed, poverty will reduce in a our nation to a very large extent.

Agriculture na still big business, e some part of it wey no even get stress self like if you dey plant plantain, that one you no need even to do grass removing plantain go just dey grow by it self with your little effort on top am you don get enough cash be that only if you get land. For Cameroon till date, plantain na big source of income for their government and individuals.
normally agriculture is huge, it's only those that don't know how much you can make from the agricultural sector that looks at it as a business for the poor. If you take away peer pressure out of your mind and put in your time into real modernized farming, within ten years you would be one of the greatest and wealthy person in your environment.

So na as government take focus on oil make dem no dey focus on other areas of generating income and that one too make young people follow de way.
our government just like ready made thing and they don't like to stress at all. The only reason why they are interested in the oil is that they are not refining anything and are only depending on external sources for all the jobs while they just sit back and receive their own shre at the end of the day. If they where even serious about that oil business, hasn't it gotten to the stage when we have fleets of refineries across most of the niger delta states? They can't even bring the ones that have been on ground back to life not to talk of building one that will stand the test of time.

If an external company from outside comes in to invest into our agricultural sector and employ is as labour, all these politicians will rush to bring those external companies in to tap from us and use us as labours but when it comes to putting in the needed effort to training our youth to handling those things, no one is interested in that.

Initially I was against the idea of Nigerian going back to farming as said by the former president buhari but after reading your post, it occurred to me that he had a good vision but with the wrong mindset and strategies of achieving them. After telling the citizens to go into farming, assuming he being an example, set a big contract on agriculture in a large scale farming by producing some vital raw materials needed by the country and outsiders with the help of some farm machineries, it would have helped the economy as time progresses but, he didn't work towards achieving this goal for the benefit of the country but rather he used a wrong strategy by trying to force it upon the citizens individually.

Assuming a large scale farm was created as a project for the country, it would have helped in reducing the rate of unemployment in the country, most of those citizens who studied agriculture could have been employed while even uneducated would also be employed.

However, seeing that our leaders don't have a concrete plan in ending inflation and continues importation, I can't blame any body most especially youths, for trying as much as possible to survive by focusing on other ways to make money.

In Nigeria how many of the farmers can u be able to compare with a person working in an oil company ,bankers programmers, engineers, lawyers, lecturers etc farming in Nigeria is not lucrative and as such government has a big role to play to make the profession lucrative and attractive for people to come in. Nigeria youth rushing online business is bcos of the outcome, the result .majority of Nigeria farmers are living in abject poverty which is one the reason why many Nigerians youth will not want to associate themselves with farming. If government can come in and empower farmers and people begin to see a positive results ,believe me u , u see many Nigerians youth going into farming. Which parents in Nigeria will want his or her child to be call a farmer?

Not that the youths are not interested in agriculture but there are some circumstances hindering us from going further. When we talk about agriculture, we are not just talking about subsistence agriculture. We are talking about mechanized agriculture that's what we look at to able to produce on the larger scale. Now the things that's always standing as a hindrance is source of funding and when you go to the bank for loan you have this big interest rate which will discourage you as an intending farmer. Also most commercial banks are not willing to give you loan without collateral and how many youths have landed properties for collateral? The enabling environment is not there, that's why you see most youths moving to areas that requires little start up capital. If the cost of borrowing from the bank is low without collaterals you will see that the youth will dive into agriculture.

It's no doubt that the world has gone digital and it appears as though if you're not following it up you're almost a decade behind. If you have a conversation among youths and you tell them you're interested in farming or most of it's kind, they will normally look at you as an outdated person that's not conversant with the current reality. To most youths, it's either you're into tech, crypto, content creation, working in an oil company or you're into internet fraud. but let's understand that regardless of this reality, the place of on site jobs can't be joked with.

Most times, when thier is a major shift from a popular sector into another, thier is always loads of opportunities in the left out sector that's not taken cognizant of. Our agricultural sector use to be one of the most viable sector that boasted our economy in the past but since the advent of crude oil and the evolution into this digital age, most youth have lost interest in the agricultural sector especially those from the southern part of the country. I know coding is good and almost all the tech field have good pay rate and the working convenience is supard and top-notch compared to the working environment of most agricultural sector but if we are interested in any long term growth as a nation that will cut us from over dependent on other nations for most of our needs, then we most combine our tech spirit with the agricultural the sector.

I have issues with our government setting out policies to reducing the rate of inflation in the country and it's mostly centered on the exchange rate which directly imply that they want to be able to import goods from outside of the country at a cheaper rate so the cost of things will reduce in the country rather than working on improving on our rate of dependence on locally made goods so we don't have to become too bothered at any slight issue with our exchang rate. Our lands are fertile and most of them are lying dormant and uncultivated but yet we have a population of youths that aren't working and lots of others that are sitting in offices and government secreteriate doing menial jobs that's not contributing to any reasonable growth in our nation. Technology is good but if it closes our eyes to the numerous gift nature has endoued us with, then we have a long way to go.
