Obama is finally trying to deserve that Nobel Peace Prize he won...

Don't make me laugh. It's about further weakening Russia. It's also no coincidence that Cuba has more oil than they previously thought.

Mother nature, it emerged this week, appears to have blessed the island with enough oil reserves to vault it into the ranks of energy powers. The government announced there may be more than 20bn barrels of recoverable oil in offshore fields in Cuba's share of the Gulf of Mexico, more than twice the previous estimate.

If confirmed, it puts Cuba's reserves on par with those of the US and into the world's top 20. Drilling is expected to start next year by Cuba's state oil company Cubapetroleo, or Cupet.

"It would change their whole equation. The government would have more money and no longer be dependent on foreign oil," said Kirby Jones, founder of the Washington-based US-Cuba Trade Association. "It could join the club of oil exporting nations."

You're probably right.

Bass fishing is popular here in Canada. I never thought about doing it in Cuba. Shark fishing maybe, but not bass.

Fishermen from the US don't go to Canada to fish bass. They go for...

All politics aside, he did a fuckin' great job with that speech, i.e., use of the teleprompter and delivery. No, I'm not a fan, but what a wonderful delivery.

Just saw the speech, the people who wrote deserve a raise.

"Todos somos americanos."

Very well...

Catch-and-release, or on the wall? My guess is that represents the small ones.  Shocked

I seriously thought that I would never see this day, but today my dream of bass fishing in Cuba could now become a reality. When I was a just a kid in the 70's, Dad (RIP old fart  Kiss) and I used to talk about how big the bass are in Cuba and wishing we could drop a line, albeit I don't recall where we gleaned such information, but my guess is from some issue of Field and Stream, our fishing periodical of choice back in the day, reading only the stream related articles save the ones of Florida walking catfish migrating across the fields.

What was stopping you before?

U.S. travel ban probably

I was aware the US had trade restrictions, but did they actually forbid their citizens from going to Cuba?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_embargo_against_Cuba#Restrictions_on_tourism_by_U.S._citizens_and_residents

"Regulation does not limit travel of U.S. citizens to Cuba per se, but it makes it illegal for U.S. citizens to have transactions (spend money or receive gifts) in Cuba, under most circumstances. Since even paying unavoidable airfare ticket taxes into a Cuban airport would violate the transaction law, it is impossible for ordinary tourists to visit Cuba without breaking the monetary transaction rule."

From what I understand, Americans could technically travel to Cuba, as long they didn't spend any money there. The restriction didn't stop many people from going though, according to http://qz.com/314278/despite-a-us-travel-ban-tourism-in-cuba-thrives/
