I can say Hamilton has the biggest chance of winning as BBC SPOTY 2019. His record in the past year and in the past few months are stellar. Plus, his fan base is so huge. There are several Facebook groups about him, and his followers on Twitter are actively behind him. Add to this the fact that he's already won as BBC SPOTY before and that he's the most popular among the top 5 on the list — you may not go wrong if you bet on Lewis Hamilton.

Well, it's not a contest of beauty. Being pleasant personality is important thing, but I think that their sports achievements is the most important thing in these elections. Offcourse, Dina Asher Smith is great athlete, no doubt about it.
According to BBC statements : This award goes to the sportsperson whose actions have most captured the UK public's imagination during 2018. This means the winner doesn't necessarily have to be the person who had the highest achievements this year. The winner will be choose by people and not by a jury so probably the most popular in the list will win this award.
If I am going to place my bet, I'd go with either 3 or 5. They're the only ones who do not have any controversies. That would be my first basis though I haven't watch them play. But just by looking on their achievemets listed, it's easy to say that they are really good athletes.

However, it is said that the most popular will win. So that could mean they will win regardless of the controversies. I don't know who's popular in UK but if I have to pick one, I'm gonna go with Hamilton because I like to watch racing including F1. And based on the link given on the op, I think Hamilton was the only one who has already been the BBC Sports Personality way back 2014. Maybe he could make a come back this year, right?

Hamilton's always been a pretty good candidate. He has a stellar record, a huge name, and a big fan base in the world of sports not only in the UK but also around the world.

Raheem Sterling doesn't deserve such award, because he's not the best player of Manchester City.
I don't think that a collective sports athlete will win.My votes go for Joshua or maybe Lewis Hamilton, but I won't bet any money on it. Grin

I don't think Raheem Sterling to have the popularity Lewis Hamilton has in the UK.I think Lewis is the favourite to win this award because he is the most well known of the figures presented by BBC this year.He is an ambassador of UK throughout the world.

All the best for Raheem Sterling! Long live people of color who excel in the fields of endeavor they chose!

Sounds like Raheem Sterling is having some of his own personal issues:

Who thinks race or color will play a factor in the selection of the BBC SPOTY 2019? I mean, you know, Asher Smith and Sterling are both of color. Do you think these sports figures will have less chance?

Sterling COULD win it due to speaking out about racism he’s suffered. I mean he had a great season but people in the UK are weak when it comes to hearing about racism. I don’t think Sterling suffered anything bad, it’s a lot worse in Eastern Europe. He could win due to playing the race card, it might give him the edge.

I don't deny the existence of biasness but Color is a much less issue in the UK and the Europe. And women too share much more equality than most parts of the world. I guess color could be a issue in US or anywhere else but would be a much smaller issue in UK and the europe.

I agree. People in the UK seem to not like to practice the Trump culture of discrimination.

And to think that some of the stronger contenders for the BBC SPOTY 2019 award are people of color, I don't see any reason why we should be worried about biases based on one's skin.

But since the selection of the winner is via public voting, we can't do away with a few people who'll vote according to color. Sometimes, the racism issue goes both ways. Black favors black. White favors white. Why don't we just do "white favors the deserving" and "black favors the deserving"?
That's the problem, we can't deny the fact that this mentality still exist favoring colors over another instead of choosing the deserving winners who
really did well from their respective talents, voting system should be according to what contributions they bring to their specific industry and excel
from other personalities.

Of course they will. I don't mean to sound racist or blame anyone but when it comes to voting, women and color has always been in disadvantage. Specially women. There could be some exception but this is generally true for almost all awards decided by vote.

I don't think that race or skin color is a factor there. I don't see any reasons why Asher Smith, Raheem Sterling or Lewis Hamilton may have less chance to win. Especially when BBC SPOTY was previously won by dark skinned people like Hamilton or Sr. Mo Farah.
BTW, There is new favorite according to sportsbooks to win this award, it's Ben Stokes. Well, I haven't heard his name before...

I vote for Lewis Hamilton, he is best racing man, i don't think we will see anyone better than him in the coming generation, because i read an article about him that he is considered the best driver of the generation. So my voting is always for him.

Lewis Hamilton and Raheem Sterling are the favorites as they have huge fan following in England. On the other hand, I consider individuals like Tyson Fury and Ronnie O’Sullivan more talented than Hamilton and Sterling, but they lack the star power. Ronnie has definitely dropped out of the favorites list, after his loss to James Cahill in April.

Compared to the five players that are nominated for the award Lewis Hamilton is quite popular and has a good winning year. As football has the increased viewers the result will be mostly for Raheem Sterling. Joe Root is an important contributor to the England cricket team, but there is low possibility to win the award. It is good to have a girl listed to the nomination list, I'll support Dina or Lewis.

Lewis Hamilton has also had a great wining streak in 2018 and 19. This makes him one of the favorite for wining the award. He is a brand for formula 1 racing in UK.
Cricket and Football do have competing players and hence the two listing are less likely to win. Voting has never favored a women so, its finally Tyson Fury vs Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis really has a huge chance. And among the 5, he's the only OBE.

And his latest win - French Grand Prix - in June 2019 added much to his odds of winning BBC SPOTY 2019! I think I'm betting on this man.

[ODDS UPDATED JUNE 2019]

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Anthony Joshua are off the top 5 mainly because of their most recent unexpected loss to underdogs. New entrants to the list include Raheem Sterling and Joe Root.

Based on some sportsbooks' odds, these are the top 5 rooted for to win BBC SPOTY 2019:

1.     2.     3.

4.     5.

If you are planning to place your bets, know that the BBC SPOTY is determined via public voting. It will help to know as well what the sportspersons' track records are (awards received, other achievements, and controversies involved in) as people sometimes vote on who has the most impressive records.

See their sporting record and other achievements HERE.

Who will you vote for or bet on?

I was rooting for Ronnie O'Sullivan. He was #1 on the list. But his most recent loss to an amateur snooker player really made him slide off the list. I feel sorry for the man.

Now I think Dina Asher-Smith is gonna be BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019. Go, girl!

Who else was shocked by Anthony Joshua's unexpected loss to the boxer many mocked for being "fat"? How about Ronnie O'Sullivan's shocking loss to the amateur snooker player?

Well since she was the only female in the group so I will go for her,but I also like f1 race so that will be my second vote 😂

I'd personally go for the good ol' Ronnie O'Sullivan. If youve watched snooker, youll know that he's got it all. Dominant in the world of snooker for the longest time possible and he's got the style as well. Trick shots and angles that one wouldnt even imagine.
Not a fan of that game and don’t even know how it goes so basically O’Sullivan won’t get into my list if ever had another chance to choose

Ronnie O'Sullivan is my choice as well. But I think BBC would go with the most popular option, and that is going to be either Lewis Hamilton or Raheem Sterling. Ronnie is not very popular outside the snooker world. Also, being a cricket fan I would be rooting for Joe Root and Eoin Morgan as well... as they are also rumored to be in the list of probables.

But it's not BBC that chooses the winner. It's the public vote. Still, you have a point there when you said Ronnie's not very popular outside the snooker world.

Correct. A list of players are shortlisted by the BBC and the winner is decided by the voting.
It's not an official list, but these are the british sportsperson that achieved much fame last year. And among the most popular of course if Lewis Hamilton.
The list is missing one important player, Raheem Sterling, if he gets into the list, it would be a tough competition between Lewis Hamilton and Raheem Sterling and british people decide by vote.

We can see that Dina Asher-Smith is the only girl in the group and the only one with no controversies so maybe she will have a high odd in that award for BBC sports personality award of 2019, But even though that all of the men in there have controversies and mostly on Drug Addiction, Some is on depression and we can see that there are mild ones that only involve in a fist fight or brawl they are only human and I really think they deserve a second chance, Well I would go with Anthony Joshua the boxer for a change!

Yeah, Dina seems to be the cleanest among them all, but what's the size of her fan base? I still think Ronnie and Hamilton have more fans (which oftentimes convert to votes). In which case these latter two may have higher chances of getting the award.

Lewis may win the award in the end, in part due to his celebrity status and enormous popularity. But IMO, if merit is considered, then the award should go to Ronnie O’Sullivan. He has completely dominated the British snooker scene during the past two decades.

Controversies:

Mental health issues
Alcoholism issues
Illegal drug use
Criticized for being arguing performing-enhancing drugs should be allowed in sports
Called to be removed from the 2015 shortlist of Sports Personality of the Year nominees for his “homophobic and sexist” comments

Is "controversy" a parameter to judge the sportsman of the year? Did BBC include it in the scoring methodology?

I believe, only sports related parameters should be considered while scoring for the best sportsman and nothing else! They are also human like us so they make mistakes!

My pick is Lewis Hamilton only. The others are not even close to his achievements!

I love snooker so I would definitely go with Ronnie O'sullivan. I was actually surprised to see him on this list since there are other sports personalities that are more popular than him. I am not sure what his chances of winning this award are since he is coming from a sport that's not very popular, at least not for everyone but i will vote for him anytime.

I have done checking the qualifications of Ronnie O'Sullivan and I must say that he is a pretty tough snooker player based on the achievements that he have got so far so I will choose to vote over him as well. But I do not even know the rules on the game rules of snooker so if I will initially bet, it will be kind of risky decision to make but I have entrusted my thoughts into the credentials he have so I guess he might win the title for this year's award for the BBC sports personality of 2019. Actually I am not that popular into sports betting but maybe I could give it a try for this time maybe it was just like another gambling games I have got engaged that based on instinct or gut feel I might be right into betting into this personality. Without bad record of course, will be an advantage. But how many supporters are going to actively join the voting is another thing?
I think supporters are the only thing that matters in only to win this award. Even if you are a very popular and controversial person that's useless because no one waste their time to vote you. A supporter is usually following you and your actions so it will also support you when you need help and this is the perfect situation.

@LTU I agree, this is not a beauty contest but if the voters are mainly male, they will vote for her. Trust me however,,, most of the voters will still be voting the guys for their achievements, as you say.

For me sports people already have the best awards in trophies and prize money. This is more about how good they are as a person, no controversies, sportsmanship behavior and kindness.

The other candidates have the controversies, and I don't think that it will be good for their rating for people to choose, but we don't know about that. Only Dina Asher who doesn't have controversies inside her profile, I don't know how that could happen while the other candidates have the controversies. Me too. Just by looking at their faces, it feels like the girl has the most pleasant look, and if you read online also she has the most pleasant personality. I do not know who the others are but this is a PERSONALITY contest right?

Then for me,,, hands down Dina Asher Smith wins this award, or wins my vote at least!
Well, it's not a contest of beauty. Being pleasant personality is important thing, but I think that their sports achievements is the most important thing in these elections. Offcourse, Dina Asher Smith is great athlete, no doubt about it.

I guess I'll be rooting for the only girl in the list. I also like Tyson Williams but there are so many controversies behind him even though he's a good athlete.

I would put my bet be on Lewis Hamilton, if I should bet on anyone, Lewis Hamilton should be the favorite on that list. Who else than those 5 people can win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019 award?

Is this some sort of sports betting on BBC website or awards to best sports person?
What exactly is reason behind this post,? You want people to bet on who wins the award or us to vote for someone we believe should win

I think that Lewis Hamilton is always the strongest favourite to be BBC Personality of the year.I think he is more notoriously known worldwide than any of his competitors. If the odd is over 1.8 I would bet on him without hesitation at all.

Which website offers such bets as I haven't seen any yet from the websites I play ?

Is there any bitcoin sportsbook offering this market? I would like to bet on Lewis Hamilton as he is the only one I know between those 5 players LOL
The odds for Lewis is 10-11, nice odds to bet on although we should not bet too much as he is not the most favorite one so far.

I'll go for Dina as well, that Tyson do have these controversies. Grin
