pay a quick visit to http://blockchair.com/ and search your bitcoin address using the search field there, it will show you your address on both chains with additional information under each link including Total received and last transactions. if you click on each link you will see the whole history and your balances on each chain.
this way you can quickly see how much coins you have on what chain.

Sounds like you have purchased "Bitcoin Cash" instead of "Bitcoin"... BitcoinCash (aka BCH) is a different cryptocurrency to Bitcoin and generally requires you to use a different wallet.
Try using ElectronCash (https://electroncash.org/#download), create a wallet in ElectronCash using your Electrum seed, and see if your coins show up there.

I just took a trip to the bitcoin machine and there was 4 option Bitcoin Dash Ethurum and Litcoin. I picked bitcoin as that was the currency i wanted. However on the recipe I am saying i have BCH instead of BTC what is the difference would this affect anything as i done it before and I have not received anything in my wallet ever since. Have I just lost my money or?
