Exactly, this is a very good piece of advice.
I’d also like to say that in case anyone has entered into this trap or scammers, or given your bank credits or wallet access information to anyone, immediately block all transactions from your account till you can report it to the cyber-crime and further trace the person behind it. If any way your bitcoin is lost, there is no way to trace it back.
if someone has fallen into the trap of a scammer and gives all his personal information along with his wallet access, then nothing can be saved. who has access to the wallet is the owner and bitcoin transactions are very easy to track. if bitcoin is lost there's nothing to do but just let it go. All kinds of ways will be done by scammers to trap their victims, so you have to be more careful and alert. If the intention is to donate to war victims like Ukraine vs Russia, please check in detail, don't let your donation enrich the scammers.

This is nothing new. Scammers will take advantage of any situation to make money. There is a lot of stuff in the media people asking for money to help them escape the crisis. I have come across some on my facebook feed, pictures of women and children in distress. There is usually a writeup that they need money to save themselves. Anyone who falls for this scam has themselves to blame. I believe there is a official Ukraine Bitcoin address for donations if you're feeling generous.
Ukrainian Scam Donation Posts and Users

But war situation in Ukraine Russia many people will pray for help with pictures of helpless people. You will protect yourself from all these scams. I just do not understand some people- war is happening and they try to take advantage of this destructive and unfortunate scenario purely for their personal gain? It really sucks to see that people are willing to sacrifice their morals over their greediness and personal gain.

Thank you for this warning, OP. Lots of willing and generous individuals want to contribute to at least lessen the burden of Ukrainians due to the effects of war. But with their generosity must come with caution as lots of fake wallets, addresses, and malware from links can be clearly seen circulating on the web.

I have faced with a ton of "I am from Ukraine, it would be great to get some donations" type of messages as well, but why would anyone donate to those people when literally the government of Ukraine has crypto address that you can donate to? That's the thing about this one, I mean in any other stuff like "help Africa" and so forth, that was understandable because you do not know how you can donate and how you can make that money go directly to people who need it. But here?

Here is the first time, we have official government accounts providing us with crypto address that we can send money to, I have sent a good chunk of my money there which really put me in debt for a few months but a few months of living under debt is nothing compared to what those people are going through. So, just stick with those addresses.

Noted OP, for this good information you just passed across  the forum right now for people not to fall victim to scammers in the community. Giving is my hobby, but since scammers started using the system to make money from people and to hack people account, I don't give out without a genuine research at the moment. I  love in helping people that have difficult issues like Ukraine and Russia, because whenever I see countries fighting themselves, make me to remember the story my grandfather told me about the world war that took  many lives and also reduced their economy to zero level some years ago.

I agreeing with yours word. Because in this opportunity scammers may have already started grabbing money. So donating money there without doing any research only after seeing some video or picture will be absolutely stupid. I would not call the war good because both countries are suffering terrible losses.  And if you want to help Ukraine, you can definitely research and donate through a trusted channel

War is painful, many victims, loss of home, death and also great fear. everyone will surely feel what is felt there or in ukraine and this will be an opportunity for scammers to take action.
intend to donate out of pity they easily trust scammers who are all well packaged to convince people, and these should really do a thorough research before donating as it would be very sad if they don't accept it as they desperately need help from all over the World. And scammers don't think so because all they think about is taking a chance without seeing the suffering of others and must be exterminated.

I would say that such scammers have no emotions or feelings and scam in the name of people who are suffering from war situations.
Innocent people and children are waiting for those charity funds and these scammers have no shame in eating up that money.
I think the only way to stop these scammers is to give them strict punishment/jail if any one of them is caught doing this illegal and immoral activity.
indeed, punishment can provide a deterrent effect for them, the problem is that cryptocurrencies themselves do not have legal protection so there is no basis for taking legal action, let alone donating using cryptocurrencies. From the beginning, scammers seem to have never been deterred from committing crimes, unfortunately their wide range of motion and security from punishment make them free to move

Currently, many fraudsters are using social media, such as asking for donations to help Ukraine because the country needs money to evacuate citizens or others. Don't trust them easily. With this method, find out more about where their wallets come from and what their goals are, don't be too hasty.
Just as expected on where these fraudster/scammers would really take advantage with the current crisis between Russia and Ukraine. They dont mind about of being ethical or not
on just using human lives conditions for the benefit of their own good or for the sake of their own pocket thats why us donators or community who do tend to make out
some support should really go for those official addresses or channels so that we wont really be losing our track in case we do make out some immediate move.
Be aware on things that you've been dealing or seeing with.

Seeing and following the news from Ukraine and Russia, I no longer know what Putin's motive is to continue waging a war that makes no sense to it, on the one hand there is a devastated country, a Russian army that is weakening more, I don't know what they are looking for, the destruction in these times is not good, the conflict is seen to be very long-term, I see that the news favors Ukraine, then I see others where they say that they favor RUSSIA, others affirm that the Russian army is very weak, The reality is that the information is already very divided, and it is difficult to establish a rational scheme, the most rational thing is that this ends and no more people suffer, be they Ukrainians, Russians, the war makes no sense.

We will never know what the correct information is, with today's war not only between the military, today's war has the intervention of the media whoever holds the media is the winner.

I always follow the news about the war between the two countries but I have not found the real reason for them to end the war even though both countries are suffering heavy losses of people and property.

I know that Ukraine was a fundamental pillar for the Soviet Union in its time, and the best infrastructures were created there, I don't know if Putin wants to recover that phase of history that they think they lost, because Belarus is like saying an arm of RUSSIA, and another arm that maybe will go after him later will be for Finland, New Zealand, because if he achieves his goal and nobody does anything to him, then he continues like this, that is what I speculate because those countries are very rich in natural resources, I imagine that he will also be wanting to take them for that reason.

Maybe what you say is true they ended it all because they wanted to take the source of the wealth.
Because to achieve the goals and purposes of their desires, they must do various ways to achieve their goals to the last point, it is not impossible for them.

As far as everything goes, I don't know if that war is taking longer than normal, for me they have to be with plans to take over the entire country, for me those NATO countries and the USA are like those children who throw stones at them to a beehive and then they run away and it stings the others, I think that's what's happening, because there it is, they say they've given the Ukrainians weapons, but so be it with the best weapons, the population The civilian who is defending is not an expert in weapons, they are not soldiers, they are not Marines, they are normal people, and they are facing many who have studied a lot for it, I do not see any help yet.

It is very important to be on the alert to ensure that the assistance you want to render gets to the right people and not scammers. This time, scammers may get to the point of duplicating websites that look similar to the original ones. So intending donors should look out for details of the websites; to check the letters, etc. and ensure you are sending to the right address/website.

For the people who are far away and cannot do anything but give some donations to save the people, you will find these scammers taking advantage of that opportunity to steal money from sincere donators.  All their eyes can see is profit and they don't have any heart because they are stealing from the people who lose all of the meaning of their life because of this nonsense war. This is when people lose their trust in strangers because of this kind of evil act that's why we cannot blame people when they act like they don't care because they were just preventing themselves from these scammers.

To err is man. To steal is scam. Stay vigilant, and stay safe.
Donate but don't loose. Give your money to validated official wallets of Ukraine, and don't rely on third party wallets.

Yes because many of them are waiting for this opportunity, therefore we also have to be more careful in donating, especially since Ukraine has its own wallet so third parties can't interfere with it either.
A few weeks ago I was also sent a message using the word please send me a little money from Ukraine there is no food and I think everyone can use this situation to deceive us.

By taking advantage of carelessness and compassion, many people abuse this opportunity for personal gain. I think we really have to look for an official government address before making a donation. even though our intentions are good, but we must be able to think smartly so as not to be used by people like that. Actually, if the government understands the difficulties of its people, there is no need for donations, the rest is looking for diplomatic solutions for the interests of the people, not being made political victims.

The fact that Ukraine has shared their own donation wallet addresses is more than enough to be careful. I mean if you are donating, do not donate to third parties, they have shared their official wallet addresses for the government itself, just send your money there and you will be doing fine work.

This is also proving that crypt community is a better community than wall street one. At wall street they put in money and try to turn that money into bigger amounts of money, same goes on here in crypto world as well. The difference is that while wall street guys take more risks and then spend tax payers money to get bailed out, the crypto community actually pays back to the community and makes the world a better place.

I would guess that something is done about this current situation in the smallest sense but also gave him enough trouble. Remember the 2014 war? That happened and Russia won that easily, and they didn't forced themselves this hard to continue fighting. Whereas, each passing day is another solar panel and another wind turbine erected in the European soil, which means less need for energy from Russia, which in return means less financial profit for them as well.

This is why I believe that Russia realized Ukraine will not be as easy as it used to be and that is why they will not fight with another nation. If they are having this much trouble against Ukraine, Finland would literally destroy their attacks in a single beat.

This is the sad reality that we should be more aware of. Whenever disasters or tragedies happen, the first thing to do is to offer help and assistance, and the scammers out there are also acting victims so they can take advantage of the situation. While this has been becoming more rampant, i even think its more inevitable. So i guess its only up to us how to take caution and be more wiser not to be scammed, always take time to research first to end up donating in an official and legit wallet address.

I appreciate the thought of warning everyone here about such threats. I just hope you make your post easier to read next time took me more time than usual to actually digest the thought of your post. You may have been in a hurry or something or are preoccupied while posting so it's understandable. Just make it better next time.

There are a huge number of scammers out there waiting for any opportunity to rise so they can capitalize on any mistake of unexpecting people. Be it generosity, carelessness or whatever. This is even more true in this industry that we are all currently in which is why people here should be more vigilant with their safety. This industry after all has had a lot of scams and hacks recorded ever since I can remember.

Events like this is what the scammers take advantage of to feast in and they mainly target the innocent citizens all in the name of help to Ukraine they developed strategies for extortion, even on the forum here I've come across two users which I can't remember their username anymore who boldly deem feet to come out requesting for such donations using their personal bitcoin address, some even claim involvement in charity work and I said to myself, is it a must? Must one do what is beyond his capacity? Then i realizes they might have hidden motives behind asking for public opinions and donations.

Prudence is the most important thing actually not only about Donations but for every step we take now because this is still the thing that must be the real basis.
specifically for Donations, maybe now donate to an account or address that has been properly verified and then it will be completely safe at least your donation can get to the right hands.
Scammers will always target no matter what happens regardless of what is harmed or really don't think about humanity Scammers will always do that

yes, scammers take this opportunity to take funds from us by donating to ukraine. Ukraine's government has shared an official bitcoin / Ethereum address where one should send the donation. Now if the scammers ask for donations on their own crypto addresses, then we should not send them to any other address. But unfortunately, people are so innocent that they feel sympathy for everyone who ask for donations and scammer play emotionally to fool people.

every chance the scammer will definitely be in front and superior to the original account, sometimes where is the humanity, deceiving people by taking advantage of this situation that is being talked about,
suggestions for the forum if there are open donations in this forum, they should go through verification first so that not many people lose money just because they are being cheated by those who intend to help others

Op you are right concerning your opinion. The Russia-Ukraine invasion  many people will use it as an advantage to generate money for themselves claiming they are taking donations that will favour the citizens but it is untrue. If one must do any donation it is important  to make sure that where the money is to be donated is genuine,  people just need to be careful not to allow scammers to take advantage of them.  OP thanks for letting the public get aware about this.

Really shame on those people who do not care for the innocent people dying in the war, but they only care for themselves and talking money as donations but spending them on themselves. Don't they have any fear of god  Huh
This is why they are known as Bad people and being bad means they have lost every morality in them. Caring about the feelings of others is no longer a thing for them, this is why they are comfortable scamming people regardless of the situation, once they believe it is an opotunity to make some money, scamers will take it.

I feel if today's world you have to tell someone to be cautious while making payments he/she really lacks information. These sort of people will always get scammed no matter what happens, no matter how much you teach them, there will always be scammers who know how to scam someone very easily and on the other side there will always be folks who become victim of these things due to their naive nature.

Some of my friends have been pestering me to check these donations links that they are seeing online to see if they are legitimate or not. Been linking them to this forum and they are not been checking my messages.

It is great that we can use Bitcoin to donate but there are these people that are taking advantage of these matters which is really tiring to see. I know that this matter is not new but with the sensitivity of what's happening, this is really absurd. Knowing the OP of this thread, we will be seeing more updates in this link so I suggest people check this thread for more info. This thread also includes the legitimate addresses set up by that the government of Ukraine.

The most easiest way to get donation scams is through cryptocurrency, because it doesn't need names or bank account #. You just need to make it look like it's legit and drop some Btc or other alts address.
Fortunately, crypto enthusiast like us doesn't easily fall for it.
We tend to look to authenticate the legitimacy of such donation links.
Good thing we have a very active forum members who has been monitoring fraudulent activities and scammers.

Thanks for these reminders Mate, I agree that we should take some measures if we want to send donations, its better to give them to the proper channels, to avoid enriching those BS scammers that always lurking around and take some advantage in the current situation involving Ukraine and Russia so just make sure that you give your donation to the right people via the right channels.

There will always be scammers who takes out advantages of these situations to make personal profits.Like the Ukraine government has setup donation in crypto and some will post their own address to receive the funds and we must counter check it with the real one in order to make sure funds reach right place. The Ukrainian government has also confirmed with Vitalik to ensure that ETH address is correct and no problems come.So whosoever makes donation make to the original address which they have posted.
It's hard to ask donations to someone else and say that the donation will go to this "name" because people can hardly believe it when they didn't hear it in the news or some sources but it will be easy for them if they will use such popular trends like this one we have now (the war).

We think we are wiser than the scammers because we don't believe in non-verified accounts but some of us didn't know yet that even the verified accounts can also get hacked and they can post a message which ask for money. We need to carefully check the message and the account if they really mean it or not. In the case of Ukraine donation post, it seems it was legit as it was confirmed also by different verified accounts.

Through the war, many donation projects have slowly sprung up, but you must increase your vigilance.
I found a project that said that donations will be given to airdrops, but there has been no news since then. I suspect it is a scam organization. I can't find that page now. I hope you can observe more. Pay more attention to the development after the project (donation).
Why need to trust those stupid project when there are already many donation cause that on the line and trusted by those legit accounts here?

there are so many support from even gambling sites so never trust those BS new project coming.

There is an official bitcoin address that is shared by the Ukrainian government, where you can send your donations. Other than that do not trust anyone online asking for donations for Ukraine.

If you know someone from Ukraine, you can help them directly but you should not trust any anonymous person looking for money in the name of donations for Ukraine. Stay away from such scams which are emerging every day nowadays.

Unfortunately even at this time people are falsely portraying their information on social media to recieve fake donations. Few of the things I can suggest:

1. Do not donate to people without a ukranian ID card and border pass to confirm their story

2. Donate on world wide platforms like you can always go to Twitter and follow ukriane.ua and then donate bitcoins there if needed

3. Ask your fellow ukranian, there are many organizations working day and night and posting stories on Facebook to accept donations, you might as well ask your ukranian friends at this time

4. Secure your account, secure your phone ! Don't download third party applications, this might end bad instantly

Charities and Organizations have long standing history in Ukraine, therefore if you really wanna donate you can PM me and I can send you link of some of them am aware about, there are many animal rescue organizations starving right now sending appeals on Facebook as well. It's catastrophic, the last thing you wanna do is to fuel scam.

Well, tell you all what. Nothing to worry about. Most of the people posting in this part of the forum, if they're really intent on donating any actual Bitcoin, they'll have enough brains to know how Bitcoin works and know how charities and addresses work. If they didn't have the intent, nor the brains, then these posts don't help them anyway.

I'm so certain, you should ask every single person posted in this thread who's donated, who has intent, and who doesn't know about this type of scam. Don't hold your breath.

Most definitely. This is the perfect opportunity for scammers to take advantage of and scam many people. Such major tragedies, like the war in Ukraine, are events which will likely attract all sorts of fraud and phishing attempts.

So what can be done to avoid falling victim?
If you receive a suspicious message, or if you are contacted out of the blue for money, just ignore them. Never send money to a stranger requesting donations unless you know who they are.
It is also always a good idea to make sure that donations aren’t going to some sketchy organization on a "charities" site that is based outside of Ukraine or wherever the crisis is, or you will probably end up with your money going to an organization that uses it to line its own pockets.

Remember, make sure to use the legitimate site of the non-profit organization, preferably one which is based in the area that you live in. For example, the Red Cross and many other well-known charities.

You provide a preventative step that everyone can take. Even though we know who the person is, we also have to look at our financial condition to know if we can donate or decide to donate later.

In the current situation, we have to be extra careful when we want to donate because this is an opportunity for scammers to deceive many people by spreading a link to donate. Yes, it's better to donate through an organization in our own environment that we know will distribute all types of donations.

Thanks for the warning hundreds of wallets are already flying around all requesting donations to aid the war and support Ukraine in this trying time, it is important to verify the address before making any donation to ensure the money gets into the right wallet and not scammers.

Scammers will always look for ways to take advantage of this kind of situation to fraud unsuspecting individuals but digging a little deeper will uncover the plot.

There were already some users on the forum acting as a representative on behalf of some Ukrainian organization that are accepting donation. If people are that stupid to fall for those scams, I have nothing much to say. If someone is going to donate their money somewhere, they should actually try to "know" or do their research about where they are donating. As far as I know, the only official wallet address are posted by the Ukrainian government on their twitter.

Scammers always come when the country/society is hit by misfortunes such as wars, natural disasters and so on, that's the most accurate way they can do, if we are not vigilant and careful in filtering information about donations, we will fall into the trap of scammers.

Taking personal opportunities and benefits at the expense of other people's suffering, is indeed rampant these days, things like that don't only happen in Ukrainian donations, in my country this often happens, not a few natural disaster aids are devoured, Donations in the name of humanity at this time really have to be thoroughly investigated for their origins, to prevent losses on top of losses, only certain parties are happy.

Ukrainian Scam Donation Posts and Users
Scam is nothing new to humanity as mankind constantly seeks opportunities during crisis such as the Russia–Ukraine war presents to profit from. Many good hearted individuals who genuinely want to help out will end up getting scammed of their hard earnings. It's such a pity that humanity is turning cold and making merchandize out of others' sufferings. Thanks for putting out that link, at least users will be properly directed to the the thread that warehouses the wallet addresses.

It is advised that before finally clicking that send button, donors should make sure that the address is the one being posted. Secondly, donors should make sure that the address is the official address being provided by the government or the organization that is asking for donation. This will be done by going through only the official channels. Not only triple or quadruple checking the address is enough. It is also important that the address is the official one.

people need to have common sense, be calm and analyze everything they look at on the internet, for example: person X enters the internet and sees that there is a website that says that the person owes $10 and will receive $20. man, just look at this to think: how is it possible that each person donates X amount and has twice as much? this is no longer a donation it is an investment a ponzi investment is unsustainable and a scam, but there are people who fall for this kind of scam

Having know, Scammers are taking chance of this moment to invade as well, it's best someone we all be guided and not fall as victims to this.
I'm a very emphatic guy and I feel bad for the Ukranians for what the Russians is doing to them.
On the other hand though, I believe that there are more capable people more than me who are willing to donate Bitcoins to them.

Well I've seen a twitter tweet regarding a user from Ukraine that is asking for funds that will help them but turns out that it is a scammer. Scammers really don't have a heart or at least empathy don't they? They know that a country is suffering already and yet they took it as an opportunity to scam other people who are willing to help. If you really want to help then at least double or triple check and ask some people if it really is the official donation address of Ukraine or it really came from Ukraine and not from scammers.

I think and I believe most of us here in the forum are intelligent people and we can distinguish which are scams and which are not Smiley.
What saddened us is despite of the economic crisis that people suffer due to war happening in Ukraine, scammers here and there are also taking advantage of the situation. I guess we won't be surprised by that as they are born even smarter than us, but this time we should also make sure that if we try to donate, all those donations will go to the real beneficiaries, and be used for good. So as much as we want to help, checking and verifying for a couple of times the legit wallet address that accepts donations is a very good thing to do to avoid sending funds to the hands of scammers.

I believe the scammers will use this moment for their benefits to get many target people to get their money because I am sure many people want to donate their money to help Ukrainians. We should be careful and always check the wallet address and if necessary, we can ask their government if that wallet belongs to them or it is a scammer's wallet. You’re right, if you’re going to donate to the cause for Ukraine, make sure that you’re donating to a proper address and not some scammer pretending to be part of Ukraine in some way shape or form. I of course encourage everyone to donate a little, it all adds up. Below are addresses for both Ukraine’s official account and for their military.

<…> i am not happy to donate BTC. too risky
I’m not sure if you consider the risk being that of a scammer trying to obtain BTC using the need to aid Ukraine as a pretext, or whether you consider that those BTCs donated could be more prone to be under less control of their proper usage, than through traditional fiat donations.

Be it as it be, cross-referencing the information here and there should mitigate the risk of sending of BTCs (et al) to a rogue address. In addition, yet not on its own, choosing well-known organizations should help reduce the chances of sending to a scammer. Even if there may be some sort of risk involved of ending-up sending some finds to some scummy scammer somewhere, despite being extra cautious, the need to aid the Ukrainians should prevail (be it in crypto, fiat, logistics, supplies, whatever).

The donation that took place was an announcement to their official twitter account which many got their address to donate and the Ukraine twitter page is verified by twitter so if any donation one have to be sure it's from the right source they are sending their fund to. i have also been inbox on twitter for help and guess what? The user account is a newly created account and i sense it to be scammer so i was vigilant enough to noticed it, they uses such little opportunities to get our funds stolen.

Scammers are always ready to take advantage of the situation, and I've seen people sharing shady accounts and claiming they are spreading official accounts to help Ukrainians who are suffering from the conflict. So it's very important to check the sources and only donate to reputable organizations if one wants to do so. I hate it that some people are using such a vulnerable situation, exploiting the compassion of people who want to help Ukrainians during these hard times. Beware of scams, the informational war is extremely strong right now, and that includes scammers.

I can't really imagine how these scammers will take advantage in a situation like this. The majority had thought it was legit and that was the people from Ukraine really asking for this but too sad and really disappointing.

There is only a way to make a deal of these scammer's tricks and that is to send the right address this will happen if we directly send it to the government instead of sending it to the third parties. And even charities foundation is hard to trust unless if they are known already to such event and services for the long-time.

Scammers will always try to advantage of human emotions, this is a prime example of the same. While people should be cautious there will be some innocent and kind hearted people who will be willing to donate and they are the prime targets.

I think it will be best if people send money to their relatives only and not send money to random websites and addresses being posted in the internet and forums.

With markets crashing everyone will face monetary problems but we need to hold on to the helm for tiding over this time.

Scammers don't waste any time at all, they see opportunity in every situation, whether good or bad, while people are suffering from the impact of war, scammers are somewhere skimming ways to defraud people, donator should be extra vigilant,  spare time to check for the official wallet to donate to, don't send money to scammers who like to take advantage of situations.
The moment I saw there was the possibility to help Ukraine with some bitcoin I knew that scammers were going to jump at the opportunity immediately and try to make some quick money this way, they are completely shameless, not only they want to steal money from the people that are opening their hearts and wallets to send a little bit of help, but they are also stealing from people which actually could use that bitcoin for something important.

Thanks for sharing this truth. Out of emotion, many are really going to donate to Ukraine through crypto as it's the easiest way of doing it.
But scammers have seen this entry for them to take advantage of the situation. They don't have any feeling and heart to be concerned not only to Ukraine but also to the victims that might fall to them.

I took close to an hour cross-referencing information on the donation address I sent BTC to, before actually sending any TXs to the recipient address.
As with any other made pretext or mediatic event, scammers are always sharp to place their hooks out for those ready to take the bait. We’ve seen that on the forum, social media, and in reports such as the one elaborated by Eset, where they enumerated a bunch of early scam donation sites such as:

At the moment it's wise to make donations only to a well verified account both for crypto or fiat donations. We live in a society where scammers take advantage of any slight opportunity they get to make dubious wealth. Been cautious about how donation is been made is the only way to avoid funding the wrong address scammers are just opportunist seeking for victims to take advantage of.

I guess this will be different scenario unlike sending bitcoin/crpyto to a scam giveaway where greediness is more involve than just donating since people are promised that their coins will be doubled which will give excitements.

I know more people will be keen to this same like donating to a non crypto related donations. So it's fine to assume, at least for me, that people will be more careful this time. Well, if they don't, it's their money to begin with.

With the recent Russia/Ukraine invasion, the Ukrainians asked for help accepting bitcoin and other form of donations.
Having know, Scammers are taking chance of this moment to invade as well, it's best someone we all be guided and not fall as victims to this.
Five minutes of your time can lead to an hour, please be guided in this times.
You could share to your pals, I felt I should share this. People are lossing funds!! I'm no expert at privacy of coins buh take caution and be Cautious.
