Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin
Seriously the scammers are always on a dip research just to find a way on how they can be able to scams people in a different direction, and it will be good for us to keep focus on what ever we come to do so that the scammers will not get access to our funds.

Especially this forums i know so many peoples are making mistakes when ever they come to do transactions by copy wrong address, is good to be cross check the address where copy before past transactions, because it might be that the address has changed to the scammer wallet you don’t know, is very good idea to take note whatever we come online.

Scammers are just the regular people here like all of us but as they are investing their time in the knowledge, instead of them to use money to fund the idea to reality, they use the idea to lure people that are ignorant of what they create like phising website, making people to download trojan and malware thinking they download the real software and many more like, even social scams is rampant nowadays, people fall for high profile when they launch new coins.

Anyone can be their victims but if you are been careful enough, the less you will come across their useless tricks. Sometimes even Defi are not safe for people to use, today for example Eigien protocol social handle was compromised and the scammer was busy twitting fake information, it took a while before people knew it was a scam but it was already late as some people has lost money to the scammer(s).

We have three more months before we say goodbye to 2024 and both pros and beginners are gearing up for the coming uptober like many people are calling October, even if we failed to get a uptober, one thing is certain, a full blow up top is coming.

Now imagine going through all the hassle since the beginning of this year and you ended up losing everything you've worked so hard for?
when it approaches the end of the year, it's always the time when people want to achieve a lot of the things they where unable to get from the start of the year and somehow, it brings out the vaulnaurability of both the attacker and the prey and in a bid to get more, you might end up loosing even that which you've gotten. Phishing link has been ransacked on different forms and hackers and scammers have woken up in Thier numbers and are currently looking for individuals to steal from. As you're trying to be careful with links, know that it always goes above the literal ones you can think of.

You have to answer questions like, How secured is the asset on your device if for any reason your device gets stolen and compromised? Do someone have access to your security system? How much do you trust such person?
The days are generally evil and when it gets to the end of the year, it gets even worse if you're not taking adiquate security measures that will protect your funds and even you that's the owner of the funds.

I don't think it has anything to do with the end of the year, scammers will steal your funds anytime if they get the opportunity to do so, don't give them that chance by using a hardware wallet or an airgapped wallet to store your funds. Managing your funds in an online wallet is too risky, and even if you believe you are very careful, you might make a mistake sooner or later. Online wallets should only store funds that you need for spending on the go.
scam always being in existence but I know that what o p is saying is right because this time around that is close to the ending of the year many scammers go deeply to scam people in order to get their Christmas money to celebrate with their loved ones that is what the original author of this trend he saying that every person should be extremely careful so that will not be victim of scam because the high rate of scam is much and the Mostly this time that the month is remaining few months to come to end I'll be also be in the same clue that we should know the kind of investment will go into and the kind of response to people especially people that is unknown to us
Towards the ending of the year is the time when gifting is being done very well if we should compare with other months and this is one of the strategies scammers always use in getting people because the mind of people it is believed it is time to gain things very easily. I think it will be best if people just focus on the investment and never to be carried away with the trick of scammers. I know their is no resting time for scammers , they operate at all times which it is possible for people to fall to scam at anything but it will be so terrible for anyone to get into the hands of scammers,  people just need to be very careful and just understand how things works.

The month of December is a month of general celebration which people use to give gifts to their love ones in their various communities, because they want to make them happy and some people don't care where the person got the money from to purchase all those gifts. Even the scammers know that this is the season people use to take any risk in this community whether the project is fake they don't bother, which scammers can take advantage of that to scam such people that have the mindset. Yes, there is no resting time for scammers operation, because they use to succeed most in the month of number and December which is the reason why people need to keep their details and documents save and be careful the type of project they are investing.

Yes year is going to be end and people give gifts and are generous. But they should be careful from scammers who take advantage of this time.
Gifting is kind of gestures among people who knew each other, have different kinds of relationship with each other. If it is from your family members, relatives, friends, it looks normal and less risky but if it is from a stranger, you must know that risk is higher and your must be more careful with your action.

It's a favorite season of scammers to set up their scam traps because they know people tend to enjoy funny and happy time so they are less careful than usual. Time of year end, Christmas and New year is perfect opportunities for scammers to do their jobs with better success rates.

If something seems too good to be true it probably is. Protect yourself and your money from the scammers which is crucial otherwise they have much plans to steal your money.
If people know about this classic method, by using "Get rich quick", "Too good to be true offers" to scam, they will know basic principle of avoiding scam. The vital principle is simple

- There is no free lunch.
- There is no "Get rich quick" method.
- There is no valid "too good to be true offer".

If they receive such offers, they quickly know it's scam, and they will not be scammed, if they are disciplined and careful.

End of year price increase for cryptocurrencies might mean big upward trend is coming according to experts. This could happen this year or next after Bitcoin halving period. But when prices go up bad people try to take advantage.
End of this year is not worth to worry because my belief based on Bitcoin history is 2025 will be a bullish year for Bitcoin. What will happen in last 3 months of 2024 is not too important, 2025 is more important and we need to have good plans for next year.

2024 is a bullish year so it's impossible for Bitcoin price to crash in last 3 months of this year, one reason I won't worry for the end of 2024. The second reason is 2025 will be more bullish, more parabolic upward for Bitcoin.

If you understand about Bitcoin history, you can take advantage of its bull run.

That's right. Because the end of the year usually has a price spike, although not significant, but it is believed that we are in the years where the bull run will occur, it could be the end of the year or next year but what is certain is that we will enter that moment in the near future considering the halving period has passed.

When the bitcoin trend goes up, of course all altcoins will also go up and this is where many hackers or fraudsters take action in various ways to deceive their potential victims. Because usually the end of the year is the right moment for fraudsters to launch their actions even though fraud can happen at any time. The point is that everything that is expressed by friends here, especially OP, has a good purpose so that we must remain careful in using links, sites or when connecting a wallet to any site must be careful.

Everything that brings about positive and negative trends in the crypto space always gives scammers an opportunity to scam those who are not well enlightened about the system, and the people who are always victims of such scams are mostly those who are either looking for a fast way to make money online or those who might be searching for the best opportunity they can take advantage of online. Why are some being trapped by cheap staking and custody services that promise what they don't offer?

This is one of the reasons I am sticking to bitcointalk. There were lots of tactics scammers use I never knew existed until I started reading about them here in this forum. I am very fortunate for not falling victim to scams a long time ago. As long as people do not know how these scammers operate, they will easily fall victim once that opportunity comes.

That's why forum members should check scam accusation board regularly even though they do not write anything there. By visiting the scam accusation board, you will know many kind of scam methods that are scammers using to scam people. we cannot afford to lose our assets and then learn from that mistake. We should learn from other members mistakes and update ourself with the information available on the internet. If you know how scammers can approach to you, it is easy to avoid them. Some OG people who knows before that it is a scam attempt, they even troll the scammers by putting wrong account credential  Grin

We will not know how the scammers work because they can use many ways that looks normally like the other methods. They even can use very basic things to scam their target and unfortunately, that basic scam can make people deceived. We must really be carefull when we see something that looks too suspicious and not just directly click the links or participate because we need to ensure everything is safe.

Our safety will be in our hand so we must check everything before we decide. We can not get tempting from what they say. I often see an ad telling get fast money by doing simple thing. But that does not mean that way can give us money.

Double check for the wallet address is a must to prevents the scammers. They can use something familiar but that is a fake to trick us. Just make sure and check everything before we decide to make us safe.

Scammers are not like entrepreneurs and don't have business to do seriously so they don't focus on very specific targets with narrow potential victims. Scammers do their scams with massive scale as they want to increase their potential victims and hope that some will fall to their scam traps and lose money.

You can be their potential victims too but if you read and know of basic scam types, and control yourself well (don't let your greediness leads to scam traps, be careful in practice), you will never be victim of scammers.

Scammers and hackers are doing it nonstoply. So whether this year ends, they'll always come from each angle of the internet. We have to raise awareness among others about these techniques. Others might find it too simple about phishing but this is where many have been victimized. When they're too confident that the websites they visit often aren't bookmarked and they typically type and search it through search engines, they'd fall to these top results. If someone isn't into dApps or that kind of smart contract apps you'll have to connect your wallets, you're good, and nothing to worry about. But just for the sake of safety, always verify the websites and results that you search.

Scammers are very smart. They can do anything to scam people. So they are everywhere on the internet. To me, the best way to avoid these scams is to take your time to confirm and do research on everything you want to do. People shouldn’t be too fast in doing things online, especially with this new update coming up online. Everything you said here is the truth. Knowledge is very important.

Also, avoid all this airdrop that is too promising in getting a huge return. Most of them are scams; they will end up scamming people. They can create new things at anytime. Everybody can fall victim regardless of how knowledgeable you think you are in the crypto space, but knowing how the scams work will also help more.

There is this general belief that criminals like hackers and scammers become more desperate close to the end of the year. Maybe in most countries, the Christmas celebrations require money to spend on holiday, so people want to get rich by all means. But the reality is that criminals never go on holiday so we should never lose our guide. Spending a few dollars to buy a hardware wallet if you have a substantial amount is important. Our online wallets also need to be safe because nobody wants to lose even a dollar. This is why we should always verify every piece of information and avoid clicking on random links.

That is right, but we have one weapon as well, that is to educate ourselves with this kind of attacks. Scammers might be more innovative, but if we learn what the tricks are, or we really don't trust anyone very easy, then we will not fall for this kind of trick.

Agree with that.
If you want to stay safe from the scammers, you have to know how these scams work. If you don't know how Fake NFT scams work, you are likely to fall for this trap just like how an old forum member fell for it a week ago. Being an old member of the crypto space does not help you to stay away from scams. You have to be up to date on how scammers are working and what is their newest method to scam people.

Just imagine some Bitcoin OG just came back online and noticed everything changed and he has 100 Bitcoins. He can lose it just because of a little copy-paste mistake. I have seen such a short video on the internet. They can fall for traps if they are not aware of recent scam tricks.

I actually think scammers are dumb but their victims are always dumber because I don't get why we fall for some of this cheap scams.

The scams aren't that new but a simple being informed will save us from alot of losses although we choose to be ignorant and act like we don't care until we become victims too.

You can bookmark some of then important URL that you visit for your financial business like trading and the rest when the websites don't have mobile Apps. And as for the downloading, only get the download links directly from the official website and not third-party sources or social channels because that can be hacked too.

We all should be aware of the industry we're in and avoided clicking of unknown links that we aren't familiar with. Why are we clicking on an airdrop we didn't participate in, a giveaway or any random stuff being sent to our email. We have to be very conscious to avoid being another victim.

A really good one from you OP and for those who are going to not take this seriously, I don't wish a Cyber attack on you so you don't get to have the terrible experience that may cost you money and for some others it has cost them their lives, I mean a period when all they have got was taken and stolen from them via cyber attacks, it's enough to get one really thinking and making attempts to hurt them self or sending them into critical situations that some never gets to survive.

Every precaution possible and available, make sure to use them effectively for your protection and good so you don't get to become victim of any circumstance at any point, not only with your crypto assets but other digital assets.

Sadly the scammers are more innovative than us. They discover new ways every time we figure out their old methods. Lately, the scammers using ad networks to spread their malware so they can hack your devices. They run ads on social media with video ads which shows people winning million dollars on slot games. People visit these platforms by clicking on the link and their device get compromised somehow. Luckily, I am not a victim and I hope people will stay away from these scams. I hope people will expose those new scam methods so others can be aware of these scams.

The thing with many of us is that we easily believed on what we see and hear on the internet, and with it, we don't verify. That's why if we could just educate ourselves, then we should be the one ahead of this game and not those cyber criminals.

Protect yourself from these attacks by

1. Moving your funds into an offline open source/noncustodial wallet.
2. Find a book and write down your favourite dApps URL, I do this a lot and it has helped my for years.
3. Avoid using search engine to find your dApps.
4. Avoid clicking on random links and Ads.
These are really great advice you gave because indeed once its coming to the end of the year, like the Mber month, scammers, both online or offline whether through links, contacts, everything, they try to pull their games in because everyone wants to ball in December. They want to have Dirty December and Decemball, so we must be careful.

Though writing out links might sound outdated, but if it's something that works for somebody, I will say go ahead and try it because you can never be too careful. And then, like maybe, you can use a Google Doc, copy and paste all your favorite links so you can go through it from there if it's not already saved in browser.

Just about anything to protect your crypto accounts from scanner because they will pull there A game to look so identical like the real site
They'll have Christmas sales, holiday ads, best crypto exchange to trade in next year and all that to lure you in so let's  be very careful.

Hackers will continue to steals people's funds from many ways. They can spread virus, phishing, or even scamming to trick people and get their funds. If people are not careful with what they will do when they access the Internet, they will falls into the hacker's trap and lose their money. Many times these hackers uses an old ways to trick their victims and make them not realize and think that something bad will happen to them.

Once their victim panic, they can not think clear and will follow the instruction to make sure their devices safe again. But that is a trick from the hackers to get their victim funds and many times the hackers succeed for that. We must really be careful by not clicking any suspicious links that we are not sure. We don't have to believe for some offers that looks too good to be true.

I just tried to google polymarket, but I don't see the ads.

So I choose to google Binance, I found the ads, but when I click it, it's not a phishing, instead it's just someone referral link. Which mean it's not harmful, I just want to know how the phishing looks a like, but definitely no one should click the ads link.
Hah? Do you want to see what phishing looks like? You should not I guess. The phishing websites look the same as the original ones. The only difference is the URL. Sometimes they buy so similar domain names that if you do not examine it carefully, you might think it's the real one. I pranked a lot of Phishing websites by putting random credentials on them.

I have to disagree, I think this might be the right moment to move your coins to centralized exchange (if you want to sell your coins) because the fee is still cheap and Bitcoin will start to bullish in the next month.
What if they choose other ways to sell them? Centralized exchanges aren't safe. They often close deposits/withdrawals when the network is a little bit loaded.

The least anyone can do is use ad blockers to get rid of those sponsored advertisements that appear at the top of search results. Better yet, don't search anything related to money, crypto, and financials on Google. Use https://duckduckgo.com/ as an alternative.

Google will gladly sponsor anyone who pays them enough for such promotions. And they will block and make inaccessible anything our puppet-states order them to. Get around restrictions with trusted VPNs, DuckDuckGo, and an ad blocker.

Nothing to do with end of the year, this can happen anyday to anyone no matter who. Phishing is the most common scam and it not only affects the Crypto market, it can affect anyone including normal banking or any other eCommerce website. I remember Gmail used to have a single page for Email and Password, that was used for phishing and then only afterwards, they decided to move from single page to multi-page login process. One page for email, and other for password.
Yeah it could happen anytime of the year. Its best we are always observant and vigilant of any form of scams. The thing is that when it comes to the end of the year. A lot of these scams are eager and desperate to push out their scam plans. Perhaps its because of the need to get money for the Christmas holidays, vacation's going to see Santa with their kids and all the funs that comes during the end of the year. Whether end of the year or not we should take not of their new ways of scamming people so that we wont fall for it.

Hackers are crafting and placing phishing ads online everywhere with URLs that looks nearly identical to the original.

The name of this tactic is called Dynamic Redirect Options . ..

If you don't know what dynamic redirect means, it is a powerful feature that allows the hackers and scammers to redirect their visitors to a specific page or platform and the crazy part of this menace is that the result is based on various conditions like Locations, Search terms, Languages, Device types and many more.

These scammers now have the ability using dynamic redirect tool to bypass security scanners by cloaking their malicious websites and pages with the original websites.

Protect yourself from these attacks by

1. Moving your funds into an offline open source/noncustodial wallet.
2. Find a book and write down your favourite dApps URL, I do this a lot and it has helped my for years.
3. Avoid using search engine to find your dApps.
4. Avoid clicking on random links and Ads.

the thing you have to be careful with are email links, this is one of the most dangerous attacks and it has victimized a lot even companies, because once it has been downloaded in to you're system all computers or devices on you're network will be infected most common are ransomware, they are active even if its not end of year.
Scammers are always trying to be one step ahead of us, let's be careful and always be on guard, before it was links we need to look closely to make sure that it is the right one, maybe changing of O with 0 or similar, now aliexpress.com as we know it isn't even aliexpress.com anymore.

There are usually scammers within the end of years with several strategies to scam people especially online and crypto has become a major target with the media being flooded with enticing news. It is sure that take crypto coins will trend, social influencers will displays and fake crypto projects would be launched.
Many of them comes when the bull run has come or approaching. That's why they seem to be back from being dead and trying to fetch many victims for as long as they can be.

And with these crypto influencers, better not trust them at all when they are all for money because they can get paid to advertise and at the same time keep their mouth shut when things go south.

This is actually going to be a threatening session so we have rto he more careful and concious with what we do online and offline as thefts and fraudsters would not set their potential victims free.
Yes, and don't get into the hype when you don't know what you're doing. FOMO is one of the reasons why many fall for such.

It is sad that evil people have no conscience, they do all these and still have the gut to go to church on Sunday for prayers, do you know that scammers also celebrates Christmas? Some are caught in the act in my country and they claimed they are scamming people because of Xmas celebration since it is a must to make their families celebrate.

Also, it is true and weird that crime rates increase more when Xmas is coming, maybe not in other part of the world but this is accurate in my country, the cybercriminals and voodoo practitioners increase their efforts to Cary out operations because the year end is near.

I can remember while growing up, every year, armed robbers will come for banks start from September to December in my country, it has become a norm that they will even write to the police that they are coming.

Back to why I wrote the topic like that, end of the year is always a rep for celebration, it will be a disastrous Xmas if anyone loses their assets at the period and also, I've seen scammers putting in more effort to scam people at this period for end of the year celebration.

Need to double check website addresses is extremely important. Small typing mistake can cause big problems as you saw with your recent error. If you enter private information into fake website hackers can easily take control of your account. This close call reminds us to check every detail carefully especially when sharing sensitive information. Taking few extra seconds to be cautious can keep your online information safe.
The worst thing to do is to go to Google and search for websites, especially those that have to do with finance, fund, exchange, or whatever it may be, because the first suggestion can be the wrong link (the clone) of the original, and if the person is not careful enough, they will login their information for the main site to that place, which could lead to losing funds. I prefer to bookmark my most used website, as I consider it safer compared to typing the website and using suggestions each and every time.

The title should be be extremely careful even if it's not the end of the year. Always thinking about being very careful should be the main thing to do because phishing sites or schemes like this doesn't wait for no one. When there's a victim then they will take action right away that's why being careful shouldn't be because the year is coming to an end and it should be very careful all the time because even those people who are very careful did also made a mistake.

You can avoid all of this by buying a new phone at a cheap price and using it for cryptocurrency transactions only, or creating an air-gapped setup using a flash or USB, or buying a suitable hardware wallet. All of these are cheap solutions that greatly enhance your security.

Even when you have a book with all the URLs written down, make sure you double check the URL before pushing the 'Enter' button on your keyboard.  A few days ago I accidentally wrote my Bitcoin Talk CCode URL but misspelled bitcointalk.org as bitcontalk.org.  Had I not received an error page, I could of entered my credentials to a bad actor who would then easily take control over my Account.

Double check every thing.  Triple check if possible.  It never hurts to be preventive.

1. Moving your funds into an offline open source/noncustodial wallet.
I have to disagree, I think this might be the right moment to move your coins to centralized exchange (if you want to sell your coins) because the fee is still cheap and Bitcoin will start to bullish in the next month.

This is a very nice step you have put out there which if followed will become very helpful to users, some of these Links sometimes could literally be such that wouldn't be noticed and not having suspicious looks so unsuspecting persons would click on the link only to later become victims of situations they aren't prepared for, let's all take caution because this period in the bid to make some more money before the Year runs out we may want to engage in so many activities at every opportunity we find only to become victims at some point so the call to be careful is very important.

I would also suggest using an ad blocker to completely block those sponsored results in your searches. From my experience, they're mostly filled with scams. I would recommend ublock origin, see: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock
Good suggestion mate, it's much better to block those sponsored ads as those are mainly used by scammers to transfer internet more specifically the crypto users to phishing sites.

Google wants to earn money from those sponsored advertisements, and they don't really care if scammers use those advertisement spaces for phishing others, and that's why it's our duty to be safe from those phishing sites and whatever you suggested is going to be very helpful.

I also use Ublock origin myself and it's quite helpful in blocking of non-wanted elements on sites, and also advertisements that are present on all sites these days.

The most common end of the year scam I will advice people to avoid most especially the newbies is those fancy giveaways...
Quite a lot of people fall for giveaway scams because they believe crypto is a money doubling scheme and these scammers get a lot of victims when they manage to hack the social media account of a prominent or popular person and use the account to make the giveaway post. Scammers also make use of the deepfake technology to impersonate people on YouTube and promise to double any amount sent to them, newbies should be careful about all these, nobody is going to double your money for you, they'll only steal it from you.

If you interact with dapps regularly and revoking every time you finish your business is not an option due to high fees or other reasons, it's a good idea to make sure every approval has a volume limit. IIRC you can do this on every popular dapps. If the platform you currently use doesn't allow that, move to other platforms asap. I believe it's still a good idea to revoke regularly, especially when you don't have to interact with the apps every day. CMIIW.

Rollbit is for you. Take $RLB token!
Protect yourself from these attacks by

1. Moving your funds into an offline open source/noncustodial wallet.
Open source and non custodial must exist together in a good wallet software, so it has to be AND, not OR. If a wallet is only non custodial, but not open source (close source), it is not good; if a wallet is open source but custodial (not non-custodial), it is not good.

2. Find a book and write down your favourite dApps URL, I do this a lot and it has helped my for years.
3. Avoid using search engine to find your dApps.
With dApps, you will interact a lot with smart contracts, risk is from this practice.

4. Avoid clicking on random links and Ads.

With ads, you can use ad blocker.

That's correct, I don't think the time of the year has anything to do with the surge of scams happening. Unfortunately, what the OP mentioned is a well-known scam on the paid ads of Google, appearing on top of the organic results, confusing potential users. Phishing scams are the oldest one in the book, and it seems they're still finding victims even though the whole internet has adviced to double check the links we're clicking.

Also available in firefox mobile for your handheld devices since not all phone browsers support extensions. Some browsers have built in ad blockers as well tho I'm not sure how reliable they are.
Adding an ad blocker is a really useful add-on in preventing these annoying, intrusive ads,, as search engines and other websites are not free of these ads that may appear as pop-ups and could lead to phishing sites or contain malware. In fact, even without this extension, it is better not to trust these ads at all, as they are an easy tactic used by scamers to succeed in their strategies targeting crypto iinvestors.

Dynamic redirect options are among the widespread malicious promotional tools, so everyone should ease their minds and avoid putting their assets online, and be cautious before trusting any unofficial site.

Cyber attacks or something like that would easily be avoided by simply using the offline wallet and also prioritize the use of QR code as a means of sending unsigned transactions this way even when the device is contaminated the wallet it self will be protected, some of the other hint there are just normal things that can be avoided with the use of this offline wallet.

The most common end of the year scam I will advice people to avoid most especially the newbies is those fancy giveaways or airdrops most especially as they are common now this are usually just phishing links which can lead to wallet drain or things like that

Multiple scam techniques will continue popping up because we are approaching the end of the year, all they could do is to make a promotion for such offers that they want to give back to their communit5y and loya users on some platforms, after accepting for this, then they will have to still advance on their strategy ensuring that many are going to fall in for what they have promised to offer them, except thay take extra precuation on them.

Yep, phishing attacks are definitely happening more these days.  Scammers are getting clever with their tactics.  Writing down dApp URLs in a notebook does sound pretty old-school though and  most crypto wallets have built-in features now to bookmark dApps or save your favorites.

Heres the real key takeaway - be careful out there!  Dont go clicking on random links without thinking twice.  Double and triple check those URLs before you connect any wallet.  And dont buy into guaranteed profits or any of those too-good-to-be-true cryptopromises.  Weve all seen how those turn out in the end.

Stay skeptical, stick to legit platforms you know and trust and keep your guard up.  Thats how we make it through these spaces safely... in "Uptober" or any other month.

Well I have never had a major cyber attack but the few cases I had heard and read about wasn’t pleasant at all, as the saying goes “prevention is better than cure”.

If you’re the type that isn’t always conscious of the url you click after searching for something then it’s advisable for you to look for a secure adblocker extension and install it on your computer. And if you’re using a mobile phone there are some good browsers also that have adblocker options and also prevent you from being redirected from a site to another - this might also help prevent scammers from accessing your system through phishing links from search results ads.
