Hello.

Yes, it's been 4 and a half years since my last post in this amazing thread.

This is why I'd like to start by saying I apologize to everyone that was excited by ideas in this thread and if you felt disapointed - I get it and I'm sorry.
I got sucked into other work that needed my immediate attention and before I knew it months passed and my head was elsewhere.

Recently I've started returning to this forum (and Bitcoin in general) more and more and started pondering new projects.

One is almost ready to be presented to you and will start in a similar way as projects in this thread.

But then this thread already exists! We came very far brainstorming one particular idea and I think it would be a shame to not give it a fresh chance.
So I'm jumping back at the wheel!

I'll try to be more concrete in navigating it so it becomes a real artifact asap.  Cool

TLDR;

This project is back. This was where we left it (copy&paste from previous post):

It is a composition of three pieces. We could even go further to five or seven, but three seems ok for now.
This way the process of producing a collectible from start to finish is told in much greater detail and opens other options for adding content. The three pieces would be connected both via shapes and colors and the story.

The composition starts with the piece on the left, which visualizes the internet. Cubic shapes emerge from the center (genesis) as it is established as a timeline. Said shapes represent the Blockchain, Bitcointalk and other crucial places, with users being smaller cubes, interacting with the big ones. This entire piece would be very futuristic and abstract, something like in Tron:

Of course, I would make it more painterly, with brush strokes, as that's my forte.  Cool

The middle piece stayed mostly the same, I just made the two guys younger. As with everything else, execution and detail would be on another level on the final piece.

The last part, on the right, we have our final product in the hands of the new owner. It has some small part of the internet still in the background, because I wanted to show that what happens here affects the "real" world. I made a drone deliver the collectible, but that's just one of many ideas that could work here. We could show ways Bitcoin is manifest in the real world and different kinds of collectibles.

I know the sketch is very sloppy, but it should serve its purpose, to get us another step ahead!

Let me know what you think and let's focus on details, every little bit will help a lot!

This is where we jump in. I know I have plenty ideas on improving on above sketch and I'm sure you will too.

I'll start working on improved sketches as soon as ideas start rolling in.

Can't wait to see where this takes us. Please comment just about any aspect of this!

Cheers!

Awesome progress!

The first piece should represent Blockchain (loading), manufacturing and assembling (creation/design)
-Freshly minted bits, buyer funded coins, DIY
-Bridge between digital and physical
-Verified Value

The second piece should represent BTCTalk, user interactions, Pros, Collectors, Investors, Developers (critiques)

The third could represent auctions, raffles, trades, peeling, adding to a collection, coin shows, grading and resales (what happens to coins)

Just some more ideas, hope this helps  Smiley

Thanks for specific ideas - that's just the direction I was going for! If you (or anyone else) has any images that pop into your minds when thinking about these subjects, please link them!

This is awesome! I like your progress so far! Your updates based on discussion are really good! I like it!

I'm in the middle of preparing PHASE 2 with a brand new post, while this one will remain for the purpose of ongoing brainstorming. Can't wait to go onto the next step.  Grin

Back with an updated sketch with lots of upgrades based on what we were discussing.

First off, I expanded it into three pieces! We could even go further to five or seven, but three seems ok for now.

Love the idea. Just been really busy lately and thus not commented here.
Here is some basic input: To me, Bitcoin is a fundamentally disruptive technology and therefore thriving with potential and energy. -> I love to express this in my art usually with lightning bolts, laserbeams, fireblazes, plasmabursts etc. surrounding the logo.
Another general idea: Bitcoin will impact so many different aspects of the modern society / life, so showing this connectedness is always on my mind when creating Bitcoin art.

Really looking forward to see whatt this experiment will lead up to. Keep up the great work, 1Dq.

Let's discuss the proper way to motivate and reward participation in this project.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea of paying for exposure, but could be interesting if people voted for a coin / maker they'd want featured by making a small donation to charities (Save the Bees,  Free Ross, Tor, Support the Amazon, ect...).

People could post TXID along with their vote for a coin / maker they would like to see, and everyone who makes a donation would receive a print  Grin

It'd be nice to see a sketch how coins / makers would be featured before voting.

Donations to charities are a good addition to the brainstorming mix (and also good for promotion of course), so let's keep that in mind. Any article reporting on the Bitcoin community donating to charities is good for public awareness and Bitcoin exposure.

I'll go make an advanced sketch of the Examining collectibles motif, using recently discussed ideas. It'll make it easier to plan further steps.

This project is still open to random ideas, but not for much longer!

These were great introductions to the production, thank you!

Let's discuss the proper way to motivate and reward participation in this project.

Maybe we can settle on an initial investment of some sort to determine which products get exposed and how big that exposure will be? I would guarantee exposing those products/symbols/images for some sort of a fee, while still including those we would collectively settle on. It would all be visualized via sketches before working on the final thing.

The final artwork could either be raffled or auctioned, while patrons of the project would get free prints? I want for all of you guys who have added in any way and still will, to get something lush in return. For me, I wish for a fair artist's fee, depending on how much effort it will take and how successful the final product will be.

I'd like to settle this out before I start my 100% investment into producing this.  Cool

Any experiences or ideas on how to do this?

I really like the sketch and representation of the forum (coin inspector).

It would be interesting to see a representation of the manufacturing of the physical coin + hologram + keys and how they all come together before the coin inspector.

Great progress and I'm excited to see what you come up with!

That could easily be visualized in the background or even somewhere in betwen - great idea!

Can I get a link of the manufacturing procedure explained and/or photographed please?

To get back to the basics of the thread, its ultimately about the forum, and its a
pity to see that there isnt more interest in the threads idea.

A big portion of the forum is centered on speculation and the majority of users
dont give a toss for anything other than what tomorrow brings let alone next year.

Maybe factoring in speculation in the artwork is another line, how it would be done
im not sure.

So how is the project progressing? Have you thought further on the format, sizes
and materials?

It's true that I've been waiting for extra commentary, but I think most people are just looking forward to see what comes up next and that's ok.

Surely, we could touch on the speculation aspect and the development of tehnology is also a very important part of Bitcointalk, especially historically. But I would push the collecting and artwork aspects of this place, as that's what our corner is here for, right?

Taking that and all the input I've gotten into consideration, I will start working on one or two advanced sketches, that will set a horizon for this enterprise. Maybe I'll execute it/them on canvas so that they can become collectibles too.

As further collaboration is concerned, we could have a contest or voting that would determine which artifacts/symbols/objects would be incorporated into the final piece/s.

I'm still open to suggestions, but the window of pure brainstorming is going to shut pretty soon, so go for it!

Yes, that is still one of two main options and I also made a sketch (the scattered one a couple of posts above). Mine was abstract though, so a realistic one is another line we could take.

I see it as a polyptych of x pieces, that would share a common theme and an assortment of compositional attributes, like landscape in the back or workspace, color/hue... In the middle something big and ultimate would be depicted (BTC comes to mind of course).

Maybe the composition could visualize the structure of this forum - in the center an altar of BTC, then left and right different sections of Bitcoin talk doing their thing - exploring technology, memes, buying/selling, collecting etc. There should be emphasis on collectibles as that's what grows this project, but I bet members from other areas would be interested to see their boards visualized, what do you think?

I've only hanged out in "Collectibles" most of the time so I'm not that familiar with the overall feel everywhere else.  Grin

for me 120x90 is perfect, my walls are not that big!

as regards multiple small sizes, what about making a single artwork
made up of 8 for example pieces [polyptych] so a few people can
own part of a single work, this going forward would potentially raise
the value of the finished product as people strive to own as many
parts as possible. It would also interest collectors and raise the profile
of the artist.

for example

120x90 is a "not too big, not too small" size.

The size all depends obviously where it will finally be located.

Something to consider is transportation to its final home, that might be overseas.

Final location of an individual piece is definitely one of the most important factors of deciding what size to use. That's why I'm interested in what kind of space you guys use for artworks, please share if you can.

Transportation is another important topic. I'm from Europe and trans-Atlantic transport costs are 2-3 time higher than inter-continental. Smaller pieces (60x60cm/24x24" and smaller) are pretty cheap to send across (around 50$), while over 100cm/40" become quite costly - 600$ and up.

When you sell a piece that is pretty expensive, shipping cost gets marginalized, but selling a larger piece for say 1000$ and having the shipment cost be almost the same becomes a big problem. This is one of the reasons I never made any compromises with either quality (using gold, proper frames and meticulous execution) or price with my larger pieces. When they sold, I wanted me and the buyer satisfied.

Here, we could decide on a larger piece that would be more pricey (maybe around 0.5 BTC) or several smaller, that would be more affordable (0.05 - 0.1BTC).

What do you think?

Let's discuss a very important aspect of the finished piece/s - the size.

I've sold paintings of very different sizes, some as big as 4 meters/13feet. But mostly people choose pieces, that fit into their homes or office space, so around 70-120cm/27-47in on the longer side.

Used materials, subject matter and execution will of course determine how the artwork will feel when hanged or placed on a shelf etc. In this project we have different options on what we settle on.

Let's start by asking ourselves, what size/s we would like this/these artwork/s to be.

I think the sketch below would look great in around 120x90cm/47x35in.

The individual pieces of the composition below might work well being around 40x40cm/15x15in.

What do you guys think? We COULD go wild on dimensions if we wanted, if we figured that would make the artwork somehow better.  Wink

Man, id really like to contribute to this however i seriously lack any real imagination.....
Il give it a shot though 👍

Something i think that would maybe a cool addition..... In the background would be a historical price chart. This could maybe take the form of a line of scenery for example a mountain range.

Something else that iv toyed with the idea of is, a house of cards with the £ ¥ $ symbols on them toppling over. Possibly reflecting how things could turn out in the future...

One other thing. A long line of gravestones bearing the bitcoin logo, all with disturbed earth as if something has risen from the graves, over and over and over.

I understand my ideas are all a bit cliché but as i said, imagination is NOT my strong suit

Happy to contribute and i wont be offended at all if you reject them.

Cheers!

Those are some pretty cool ideas man, especially the historical graph.

You did paint a completely different picture here, but we haven't settled on anything yet so it might get picked up, or at least pieces of it.

Wow - very nice  Smiley
It’s amazing how different minds perceive and develop  the same idea. Not what I was thinking at all , but very, very nice.
Only negative - top area of illustration in the middle - looks like an Ethereum logo ? What do you think ?

I wanted to draw some generic scribble, but yea I see it too. Don't worry, we'll pick what is added together!

That looks really cool 1Dq, you're definitely talented to bring that picture out of the responses here.

I wouldn't get too caught up in signifying "old men".. the old boys club aka the fed/govt is what bitcoin stands against.

I made them older because I imagine a lot of individuals here have been working hard on producing and collecting for a while now, and have become veterans of some sort. But I could easily make them younger! And maaaybe in 10 years we do this again and we age them a bit then!  Grin

Looks great, love the idea!

First thing that caught me was time, it has an 18th century feel to it
even though there are robotics/cyborg parts, maybe that could be
something to develop,

How advanced money/payment systems have become and how
discussion and interaction has changed, representing BCT forum.

I'm really happy to see some more movement on the thread

The visualisation progress of money/payment systems should be pushed if possible.

Man, there's so much content that could be integrated, I'm pretty hyped about this branch of the project now.

I'll give you guys some more time for additional ideas and then do another sketch, or just an advanced version of this one. I might make it on a smaller canvas just to make it more presentable and start the collectible part of the project.

I've been thinking about figurative ways of presenting collectibles of Bitcoin/Bitcoin talk.

I used a couple of suggested ideas, played around with them and connected them in a world of my own. Here's what I came up with.

It's set in cyberspace, that represents the internet as the world where crypto and Bitcointalk comes from and lives. In the center however (and in control) are two senior characters, a bit steam/cyberpunk-ish, with cyborg gadgets being part of them. They are very much into their passion. The left one is extracting data of a soon-to-become-physical coin from the grid. He transforms this data with his contraptions. The other one is inspecting the product and admiring it.

A lot of detail could be intergrated into this version of the artwork - the table already has the BTC sign, but could have more and both characters could have meaningful attires. There could be many different symbols manifest throughout the composition, especially in the grid.

If I forgot something, it'll come up eventually and I'll add it later.  Smiley

Let me know what you think and don't hold back with additional ideas!

Thanks!
would be nice to see your interpretation also.

For products to include I can make a few suggestions like the big names in crypto

Satoshi
Trezor
Coinmarketcap
Blockchain

It will be difficult to have collaboration in creating the physical art piece but this thread
will hopefully fuel a collaborative group for ideas where people can submit ideas.

As regards funding and rewards, that is going to be tricky, needs some more thought

For the finished artwork it could be raffled, create a series of tickets for a nominal fee
so that everyone has a chance to win and the proceeds go to the Forum to help with the
upkeep and day to day running.

Thank you for some neat ideas.

As far as creating the physical artwork, I imagine that'll be my job. Getting there will open many opportunities to contribute though. There might also be a cooperation option afterwards to print/distribute/auction the results. We'll see!

I like the idea of raffling a lot as it levels the playing field. However, I would like to reward those that will add more to the project if that's possible.

Let's give it a couple more days here, then I'll gather ideas again and make another set of sketches.

So keep those ideas coming, everybody!

I have been thinking about this and have put together a digital 3D of what
I had envisaged.

Woa, nice!

I love how grandeous it feels and I definitely want to think about working on this myself. I'll probably come up with a sketch with my take on it soon enough!

How do we figure out which products we will include and how? Is there a way to get anyone in on this so they can participate? I would like to imagine a fair system that will reward participation in much the same way Bitcoin did from the start - the more you support it the more it gave to you.
So here there will be a lot of work ahead, could we make some sort of a game plan, so that there are various ways of supporting the project (with time, ideas and bitcoin) and as reward, individual products/collectibles/things/ideas will be pushed and visualized? And maybe individual pieces might be given for free, or at least prints.

I want this to both be fun and prosperous for all included!

I was playing around with the more abstract approach and produces some rough sketches. I deliberately made one on paper and one in Photoshop, because I like to diversify techniques as it both helps me think creatively and it might encourage broader ideas.

I explored how to visualize BTC in such a way, that it is both obsolute and discreet. This is why the entire piece looks like an urban landscape, assembled from pieces of different sizes.
Those pieces would work as separate artworks, but would always also be part of the one big piece. I was also thinking about a 3d effect, that would make it feel more organic and might add to the narrative of various Collectibles racing to be Bitcoin's favorite  Grin

Both bigger and smaller pieces would hold unique information about selected products/trademarks/jokes/ideas we would want to incorporate. This sketch mostly just shows one way of how the composition might work.

These two are sort of an upgrade of the first sketch, showing how color might be used and you can also distinguish known shapes. I also scattered individual pieces here to show how they might feel on their own. Which doesn't work very well right now, as they (so far) severely lack visual information; texture, details, hues would all be on a completely next level on canvases!

We could also use some other visual elements, to add to the complexity. But these are a start.

Please don't hold back on the comments!

Great idea by the OP, and great response and input by many.

My understanding is that the artwork is to be about bitcoin and this forum,
So to me that shod represent bitcoin the technology and people,
How we interact with it,
What the main goals of people are towards bitcoin.

I am picturing a circular table surrounded by racks of mining equipment
and around this table are seated people holding hands as in a seance.
In the centre of the table and risen up is a golden BTC symbol

Just an idea...

Interesting this is definitely going on the blackboard.

I was thinking about three things, that I want to discuss with you.

* We could set a timeline to conclude this project by November, which will be just right for the 10th Anniversary of this board! This will give us, especially me and/or anyone else working on production and distribution, sufficient time to finish it properly.

* Secondly, since this might go into becoming a set of artworks, we could pick from among the founders/big supporters of Bitcoin and Bitcointalk and reward them with an art piece. All this is possible because of the great effort of people that were active, expecially in the beginning, right? It might be that there are too many or they might not be in reach, but let's discuss the possibilities!

* And lastly, we could make it two very different pieces. I will have just enough time to work on both. One could be a very realistic painting, illustrating what has already been discussed above - maybe visualizing a Bitcoin collector and his various trophies. And the other a more abstract and structurally complex piece, that could be multiple piece initially assembled into a big one and then divided/sold/raffled to interested individuals.

BTW (edit): Would it be possible to combine these two ideas:

I am picturing a circular table surrounded by racks of mining equipment
and around this table are seated people holding hands as in a seance.
In the centre of the table and risen up is a golden BTC symbol

and

Portray the physical crypto coins and cards...wallets...ex...Bitbills..Trezor. .Casascius..etc

Portray a frail old man like myself surrounded by his passion!

Let me know what you think, and expect early studies very soon!

Some other thoughts:

 - your work with gold has been superb previously so you might want to factor that in somehow.

 - really like the idea of making it where multiple smaller pieces build to one large macro image.  That would be a good way to incorporate all the themes you're looking for, from btc being "gold" to the comraderie on this board to the technological side to the way btc is a revolution against central fiat/inflation.

 - Props for taking this on, I'm sure it will eat up a ton of time.  Hopefully it's a love and not just work!

Let me sum it up so far:

* There have been similar project done in the past, but with different concepts than this one.

* We want to incorporate physical crypto coins, wallets and collectibles, representatives of which we have right here.
Doing this could be done by actually using actual collectibles in the artwork.

* We want to make it big.

* There could be avatars of members involved, such as animals - We could make it a lot of fun.

* BTC

* We want it publicly displayed somehow.

* We want to show how passionate we are about Bitcoin and collecting artifacts connected with this universe.

* We could add timeline/blockchain in different ways.

Let's get some more ideas flowing in and maybe we can already refine them to a degree.

I intend to start working on first sketches starting Monday, so before that it's all about brainstorming!

Bitcoin needs you!
Wow, superb idea  Smiley
Hopefully I can contribute something?
For me - Highlander says it best - There can be only one - and that is bitcoin. With the birth of Bitcoin came Bitcointalk and it is the ONLY forum.
Maybe a piece of work expressing all the collectibles and memorabilia, like Krogothmanhattan said, with coins, notes, wallets etc. Possibly a timeline/blockchain mix.
Just an idea.
Hope this helps ?

Great idea! Looking forward to how turns out. I always enjoy going back through the old threads of great art projects to see work in progress photos and such. Will try to contribute!

This is already going great guys!

I love ideas about your own products or just individual staples being part of the artwork.

If we could incorporate as many actual physical coins/hardware wallets as possible into the art that would raise interest substantially. Expensive as hell and would command quite the premium from whoever ends up owning this piece. There are many many peeled coins out there.

A crypto ransom letter comes to mind... some sort of fiat trashing letter pieced together and spelled out with coins/ledgers/trezors. Maybe this idea could be the CoA.

The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone.
Love this idea...besides the technical aspect of the forum...I am a Bitcoin Maximalist and all for Bitcoin.

But my main hobby is the collectable physicals in here.
Portray the physical crypto coins and cards...wallets...ex...Bitbills..Trezor. .Casascius..etc

Portray a frail old man like myself surrounded by his passion!

That would be a start!  Cheers Wink

1.  Whatever you come up with, paint it on the side of a building in San Francisco (preferably Wells Fargo) edit: Barclays in London would work well also.

2.  Huge.

3.  Should have one sexy cow.

And a dolphin Cool Cool

Lol. Actually these can easily be incorporated given the proper context!  Grin

Hey 1D

Here is a painting that was done a few years back which included some of our most respected members here on the board.  The winner of the race was greenplastic but, he had an advantage due to the oversized sail. LOL

This is a great reference and nice painting, thanks for sharing it here!

I want to go a step further though and make it bigger and more complex. Maybe it could even be completely abstract, we'll see  Smiley

By now most of you know my work. I've been active both as a crypto artist and as a member here for a year and a half. In case you missed it, here's a reference thread:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/crypto-artist-sharing-and-exploring-with-bitcointalk-3467154

I always got a lot of support and great advice here and I understand why this place is of vital importance to the Crypto universe.

This is why I WANT TO DEVELOP MY BIGGEST UP TO DATE CRYPTOART PROJECT RIGHT HERE! I want it to be about Bitcoin, about this board and the many things it represents.
This board will soon be 10 years old and I want this project to commemorate it! And I want to do in in cooperation with you!

My initial idea is to create either a series of artworks or one larger piece, constructed from smaller ones. I want individual paintings to be lush Cryptoart collectibles. Early sketches I will make might also be interesting in this regard!

Here's my initial plan:

PHASE 1: I start this exact thread in which I invite you all to the project. HERE we exchange ideas, we brainstorm and come up with a rough blueprint for me to work on. We also discuss promotion of the project and how that would benefit us.

PHASE 2: Through sketches, drawings and miniatures I visualize our concept. We evaluate these together and go back and forth until one or more solid arworks are in sight. I would want many of you to be active participants in this because there would be various benefits in contributing to the project. We determine in what way my work and the effort of all included will be rewarded. We might need to come up with something entirely new here.

PHASE 3: I start working on the project, updating you as regularily as it is possible. We promote the project via our channels and evaluate it as far as it is possible for an artwork in the making.

PHASE 4: The artwork (or initial part of it, if it is serialized) is finished. If there are supporters to be compensated this is done, if parts of the artwork or all is being bought or raffled or something else, this is done.

PHASE 5: Last step of the project. We evaluate it and figure out if we want to take further steps in this direction together.

To begin the ride, I would like you to ask yourselves and answer below these three questions:

•   What are the most important aspects of Bitcointalk for you personally and in relation to Bitcoin in general?
•   What kind of crypto artworks would best express this boards's importance and are there any you can share that already exist?
•   Would you actively support this project with ideas/donations and what kind of reward/s would you expect for your input?

Please invite anyone, who might be interested to this thread. I really want this to be a thing!
Cheers!
