Topic: Been away for a while. Ideal Software setup for 5850 (Read 2029 times)

I find that 5850's run the most efficient at 850 mhz engine, 150 mhz memory at 1.050v. Close to 2.30 Mh/s per watt. (354 Mh/s @ 154 watts)

They run more efficiently at 0.95v. Approximately 300 Mh/s @ 90 watts. So over 3 Mh/s per watt.

Thanks for the info.

I wasn't able to get quite that low of wattage, but i dropped 32 watts using 750-150-0.953 (311 m/H)

CGMiner ... I can get 410 Mhash out of a 5850 reference.

What clock speed you running that 5850 at to get 410Mh/sec ?

I just cant quite get there, I use CGMiner, clocked my 5850 to [email protected] and the best I have done is about 370Mh/sec.
Havnt done any mods to CGMiner config, just run it default.
I have also tried phoenix with really aggressive settings and cant hit more than 370 with that either.

Using v12.4cat driver on win7 32

kind regards

Are any miners claiming these kinds of speeds taking wattage measurements?

I certainly hope you are not spending a much higher percentage of power for a much smaller gain in MH/s.

Those extra MH/s mean nothing if you are paying a higher percentage for power then gaining in speed.

I run Cgminer 2.4.2  work size=128, vectors=2 , phatk kernel, catalyst 11.11 drivers

To answer the OP, if you decide to use windows, use driver 11.12 or 12.1 (no cpu bug with either single or multi gpu), and 2.1 SDK for fastest performance. Lots of people seem to rpefer using cgminer, but if you want max speed, I suggest using phoenix w/ phatk2 kernel (about 2% faster than cgminer)

I'm still a kind of a btc noob, but maybe you could answer this.
Can you describe how to use phoenix w/ phatk2 kernel with guiminer, and which flags i should use.

thx

I've got a 5830 that'll clock to 1250 MHz and do ~500mhash. Most only go to 1000 and do 315.

My 5850 even with a voltage bump only do about 950 and around 375 mhash. Beyond that they crash after a short time. they don't get hot. It's just instability.

5830 @ 1250MHz? Bullshit. Same same alleged card doing 500 MHash as well? Also bullshit. By my calculations, it would do just shy of 410 at that speed.

you got hacked bitch!
I get about 5-10 mhash a sec more on 11.12 vs 12.1 with sdk 2.1 IIRC

12.1 on win7 seems ok. Fastest still is to use a 11.X one of the later version with the CPU bug fixed and the 2.1 sdk.
dont use 12.3 and sdk 2.1 or it will have ab great hashrate but never submit any shares.

Make sure you uninstall or dont select the SDK during driver install.

Install the 2.1 sdk after the drivers are installed.

Use cgminer, let it autodetect. If you have ever run cgminer before delete all the .bin files in the directory first.

Are you really certain that 11.X would be any faster than 12.1? I'm running 12.1 + SDK 2.1 on my Win7 rigs, and I believe that is the fastest & most up-to-date possible combination for the 5000 series cards. I can only get about 98% of that with newer drivers, because SDK 2.1 is not supported then (no accepted shares). What difference would there be when using some 11.X driver compared to 12.1, when using SDK 2.1?

don't use -v
add FASTLOOP=true
and I personally use VECTORS AGGRESSION=8

So i've been away from mining for a while and I'm looking to get back in.

Which is the best AMD drivers version to use for the 5850?
Which is the best miner and it's parameters? (back then i used phoenix with phatk2 with something like this -k phatk2 DEVICE=0 VECTORS AGGRESSION=10 -v FASTLOOP BFI_INT WORKSIZE=128)

thx.
