First of all welcome back! A lot has changed in those 2 years, especially in the last 6 months. It's been a crazy ride.
Okay so what's hot right now (or it was a couple of weeks ago) are ICO's, now the thing with ICO's right now is to be very careful. There haven been a lot of succesful ICO's that gave a lot of ROI. BUT due to the success scammers saw the potential for a quick money grab so as of recently the number of genuine ICO's has decreased drastically.
I would like to advise you not to rush into things, read up on what's happened when you were gone and you can go from there.

don't rush into anything, read a lot

read some more, then make a few picks

scrap all of that and read a lot more

investigate and read till you drop

a week later think about how much you are willing to lose and take that bit into your top alt picks

Hi, there are ICO's and a lot of new projects based on ERC20 that's a standard that define most of new tokens released (there are a lot released during the last weeks and many releasing during weeks to come...) inside Ethereum ecosystem.

A lot of projects that for you can be very new because they mix a "startup" business and a cryptocurrency that define the business, for example Ox https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/0x/ that's an especific protocol created to trade tokens...

Iconomi also very interesting https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/iconomi/ you can trade on different assets based on crypto...

Neo, Iota, there's a lot of stuff there....

I suggest you to be patient and have a look around, if you have Bitcoin to invest it may be a tempation to invest in a lot of cryptos, but i would say to HODL bitcoins and start very slowly to invest in differet areas  Wink

Yeah I had a bit of Bitcoin back in the day but haven't been involved in quite some time. Just saw something on the news about these ICOs and decided to check back up on everything...  WOW! I want to invest my Bitcoin into different coins... But I also need to know how this all works??? Can anyone help me out?

Be really carefull before investing your money in multiple ICOs. Do lots of research and check on the teams behind every one of them because soon you will meet people who will tell you how team X or Y run with their money.

Also, you should keep in mind that their isn't free money, many ICOs do really good and you can multiply your investment but there are many others that will fail.

Take a look on airdrops to, those projects that distribute their tokens across their community for free, some have really great communities you can check DeepOnion for example.

Welcome back!

I see you've already figured out signature campaigns.  Wink

The number one thing is to do your research before participating in anything. Most ICOs will require you to buy some ether and send it to a wallet you control. Don't make the mistake of sending ether to an ICO directly from an exchange. MyEtherWallet is the easiest place to set up an ethereum wallet, but make sure you have the legit site, it's a HUGE magnet for fishing scams.

Don't rush in. Just keep watching the forum for some months.
ICOs are basically fundraiser for startup. And most of them seem to be a scam.
Study well before deciding to invest in any ICOs.

i think you need to find out the news for every coins that you want to invest because you've been away too long and now the things has change and not be the same like two years ago. you can read many good info on here or from other website in out there and then you can decide what coins you want to invest. you need to do this because you don't have any clue for what coins you want to buy and you might be walk in the dark without the newest information.

ICO or Initial Coin Offering is basically like a kickstarter for coins. They're mostly base on ethereum but there are some that uses waves. Don't get too excited though, there's a lot scam ICOs out there. Most of them don't last a long a time after the ICO, they get dumped immediately after the coins are distributed for quick profit(which is sometimes the reason the developers make coins).

Don't get too caught up on the things that you see in the Altcoin board because you can lose a bunch of Bitcoins on the scams that are in there.

Fully agree. If I would be you, I would really take care about your bitcoins and keep as many as possible. But if you want to invest some you may want to consider POS coins. Another area which is currently becomming very strong are POS coins, where you get additional coins by simply holding them in your wallets. Deeponion, PivX, embercoin, and a lot more got on the market.

Thank you for sharing. Wow Ethereum sure has grown! I remember when it was trading for a couple bucks and the Ethereum community was spamming /r/bitcoin members PMs trying to get them to switch over. How the times have changed...
