That is common mistake made by newbies in bitcoin trading, you need to research about the market before get into it.
by the way what happened is happened, dont regret and learn from it, Next time before get into altcoins do your research about the current market situation. No matter bitcoin is down,it will go up again sooner or later.
And obviously you need to hold your altcoins, because it too late to cut loss. So be patient.
Yes that's the reason I'm trying to learn how to trade because it is one of the reason that begginer should probably know how to trade and also review the important facts about trading.

Common mistakes,do not beat up yourself with your mistakes because the best teacher would be your experience look at the better side,im sure before buying or investing to anything you will now make sure that those coins of yours would be good quality coins, shitcoins are indeed all over the market and you just need to do some research so you would be familiar with the coin you are investing to.

So I got into BTC in november and bought in around 15k. I was a complete newb and saw alts booming so eventually decided to invest everything in alts, at which point I had about 0.58 btc's worth of alts.

Obviously then the crash happened, and I decided to hold everything until now (bad decision) and now I'm at a huge loss with all my alts - went down to around 0.13btc eq the other night.

I've missed out on a lot of profit over the last 3 months and lost a lot too by just holding. I want to get some BTC/ETH back in my portfolio and maybe try to make a few weekly trades, the problem is I'm at such a huge loss with all of my alts I don't want to sell them for such a loss at this point.

I'm not sure if I should just take a loss or hold until they go back up (down at least 60% on everything). I don't know anything but I have a feeling BTC will go back to around 50-55% market cap

At this point just hold. The prices probably won’t go much lower than they are now and even if they drop some, they will eventually go back up. Don’t sell while everyone else is buying. Wait it out a few years and you will be fine and will have a profit as long as you invested in good projects. Also make sure your coins are stored safely and protect the private keys.

question why you in such a hurry to make a loss, you bought the bitcoins as an investment so whats the hurry to liquidate them ?
No one wants to lose their investment, OP became greedy and overconfident by expecting alts continue rising after putting all of his investments in alts.

My message to OP. It's all up to you on which coin is more valuable for you. If it's not working out for you then you should go back to bitcoin where you made profit. I do agree with the users above me don't sell your altcoins now that most alts are losing value because of bitcoin. It can still go back up in the next couple of day or week.

This happens when FOMO aka fear of mission out kicks in. To be honest trading is a gamble of some sort where exchanges are big casinos that earn money for them selfs. If you've bought coins that can have bright future you could still decide to hold and forget about that you even have crypto, come back within like a year to see where are you standing. When BTC tanks down most of the alts follow and then you have huge sell off. They tell for a reason that this is risky investment. You should do more research I think before you simply throw your money around.

I was also mistaken. But one more mistake is to get out of the altcoyins. All that falls, grows. So do not worry if the portfolio consists of altcoins with a capitalization of more than 100 bitcoins.

Just HODL it. Many investors hold their coins 1-2 years until the price increases 2x or 3x more, so they gain a lot of profit. Don't worry about the price when it's crashing down. Just focus on hodling. Remember to invest only the money you can afford to lose.

question why you in such a hurry to make a loss, you bought the bitcoins as an investment so whats the hurry to liquidate them ? stop letting the anti bitcoin consortium put it in your mind that you have to make a profit now and if you don't make a profit now then something is wrong , no investment no matter what it is will mature and always bear the expected return overnight, the stock market goes up and down dosent  it ? and i don't see these people encouraging people to leave the market ? ......perhaps what you need is to sit and get a better understanding of investing in general is .

I am being part of the forum more than two years but still I did not find the have altcoins or ICO presale as the investment stretagy. I know some of the people are got the profit from investing on these.
But I do not believe this alts boom will be last longer. We can find the growth in the bitcoin and ethereum. Expect these both coins all the other altcoins are just a luck based one itself.

Most people get into this market hearing bitcoin, but most of them sell their bitcoins for shitcoins as soon as they jumped in the scene. I dont get this. You should keep your bitcoins and research about the market before buying altcoins.
I think altcoin prices will keep decreasing for a while, once they start recover you can get your loses back.

I think you should hold till your coins value up. Maybe market will be recover in june or july. If you will sell your coin you can not recover your loss soon. That's why my suggestion is hold them till market normal.

You have to make your decisions based on your expectations. Given you said you expect bitcoin share to increase you should be moving your funds to bitcoin.

My own opinion is that alt-coins are nearing their bottom price and will recover soon, the only scenario I see in which they don't is if the whole market continues to slide.
