Choosing high speed GPU can increase mining hashrate.. if you use your CPU to mine altcoin you will never made a profit.
Better to buy high end GPU that compatible to mine altcoin..
I found a guide in google where you can see what hardware you need to mine like ethereum here

With the high end GPU, you can have more hash per PC system. That will reduce the cost of the system overhead.

Thanks will take a look, I know mining is generally not that profitable, I just want to have a go out of interest, I have bought some
on an exchange etc.
Really its a long term speculation, buy / mine and hold.

Thanks for the link.

If your electricity price is less than 0.15 dollar/kWh, then you might invest in some graphics cards to mine altcoin.

I'd like to start mining Altcoins with a spare PC, nothing too expensive to start with.
Something where cost is a more important factor than Hashrate.
The PC is an Intel two core E5300 2.3Gh
Something that will give me an edge over CPU mining which I've tried with minergate giving me around 10 H/s   Undecided
but which ties up my CPU
which I'd like to use for other stuff like managing a couple of POS wallets.
I'm looking to mine coins as a long term investment rather than to sell immediately.
Oh yes, something flexible with regards to Algorithm.

Any suggestions on a GPU I might be able to pick up cheap to improve on CPU mining.
