The podcast was excellent, great job with the interview. Did you have to go in studio for that?

Thanks, Adam does all his interviews over skype thanks to its great call quality.

So how are you handling the newsletter here? Can't be by email, can it?

We are looking into different distribution methods. Bitmessage might actually work well. Thus we'll have an announcement about it soon.

Purpose

The purpose of this thread is to provide an update on what the Bitcoin Education Project is working on, our progress and where we are going for the month of June. This thread is also an opportunity to collect community advice, complaints, feedback, frustrations and new ideas for existing problems.

Goals for June

  • Announce BEP to the Public
  • Start the 100 Bitcoins in 30 Days fundraiser
  • Release the first set of contributor content
  • Start the core lecture series v1.1 update process
  • Aggregate and analyze community feedback on our project
  • Create a newsletter for interested parties to learn more about BEP's initiatives
  • Submit our Summer strategy for peer review
  • Solicit volunteers to help the project

Actions

We have announced BEP on Adam's Let's Talk Bitcoin and have a major press release upcoming alongside some media partners helping us broadcast BEP's existence to the general public. Our fundraiser started on tuesday and we are already more than 25 percent to our goal of 100 bitcoins. Content is starting to flow out and I'd highly encourage everyone to watch Derek Shaw's excellent lectures on Bitmessage as well as Joel's Bitcoin and Inflation lecture.

Starting on monday we will begin work on the core lecture series refresh. The process follows this algorithm:
  • Monday-Friday, build beta lecture with all feedback and advice from our 2,000 students, fellows and community feedback
  • Release beta lecture on Saturday with a 1 bitcoin bounty for the best feedback and changes
  • Upload the finished lecture the following Saturday

Once the system is running smoothly, we'll release two or three lectures in beta on the same Saturday. Our goal is to have the core lecture series finished by mid-July. We have contracts to translate the CLS into Spanish, Italian and Mandarin Chinese. The next version set for release at the end of Summer will also be translated into German, Russian, Japanese, French, Portuguese and Korean. Bitcoin or How I Learned to Stop Worrying will truly be a global course reflecting the global community that is behind Bitcoin.

Aggregate and analyze community feedback on our project

While bitcointalk has a wonderful community and lots of interesting projects running concurrently to ours, it is clear that the format isn't the most productive for indepth feedback and collaboration. Hence, we will be launching a specialized platform on btcedproject.org to better accomidate our project's needs alongside a wiki. We do not have a launch date planned at this moment, but will likely have a clearer picture of when this is possible at the end of June.

Until then, we will have to make do with this format. Therefore, if anyone familiar with our project could help us by answering the following questions, then we would be deeply grateful:

  • When and where did you first hear about BEP?
  • Do you like BEP's mission? Is it complete or should we also focus on other things?
  • How can we find ways of making Bitcoin more relatable to mainstream activities?
  • What haven't we done well?
  • What advice can you give us to help us achieve our goals?
  • What educational content would you like to see moving forward?
  • Who should we partner with to help us further our goals?

Please either answer in this thread or email your responses to [email protected]

Submit our Summer Strategy for Peer Review

This document will come late next week. Most of its core elements have already been released; however, we will centralize everything into a single, pretty document for the world to see. BEP doesn't have secret meetings and a top-down strategy. We are grassroots and community driven.

Volunteer

Regardless of your skill set or time available, if you are passionate about Bitcoin and education, then please volunteer with us. There is always something to do and you'll be making a difference. Brining one million new active users into the Bitcoin ecosystem isn't hard if you have the right people. Let's change the world together.

Thanks for Reading. I look forward to the future and your comments.
