I am not talking about crap coins or coins "du jour" that are hyped today but seem to fade as time goes on like chainlink seems to have done. So what legit coins do you see blossoming in the future long term? i am interested in investing in them. ill add another question on top of this one, is matic and solana hype coins today that hot today but not tommorow?
DOGE and XMR.
Doge will live on because memes will live on. XMR will also have its place in the future because people will always use drugs or make some other shady shit and XMR will always their #1 choice. Besides those, I don't really see any coins staying in the long term.
LTC will probably be around too but I wouldn't bet on this too much.
Besides those two coins i think BNB also worth as long Term investment and i was tempting too for Polygon and Solana because in my view these coins very potential to grow in the future
No coin that is not potential, what we want is the good project of the coin only, other coins is good to buy, the solana took long before the coin started doing good, the same time it took before it started developing well is the same thing any other coins will also, see banana was doing with good project but is not doing good again

Of course, BTC, ETH, and BNB are the first top investment. Besides, So far, I am investing in TKO. I know that this is a high risk, but I also see the use case of this token. I try to keep my long-term portfolio wide and i try to buy of most coins in the top 100 with small investments. However, apart from Bitcoin and Ethereum, my most trusted long-term investments are BNB, SOL, XLM and VET.
But can you actually monitor such a big portfolio in an effective way? I say this because you are talking at minimum of having more than 50 coins in your portfolio, unless you are completely dedicated to investing and trading cryptocurrencies it is impossible to dedicate enough time to each one of those coins so you will know everything there is to know about them, so I think it is way better to have a smaller portfolio that you can monitor more easily to avoid unexpected losses.

Besides bitcoin and ethereum, I find polkadot, Ada, Mina to be good for long term investment. This is just a random pick. Apart from these coins, top 100 on the coinmarketcap is good for long term investment. Because, to be on the top order isn't an easy thing. There were few hyped meme coins, but I prefer holding small volume of those coins. There were more potential coins in the market, identifying the best is a very difficult. Very few get lucky to invest and make big profit out of it. Recently saw few project launch, almost every coin grew 10x once it went on trading.

Ethereum is not a hyped coin as proclaimed by you. There's every tendency it will hit $10k before the end of next year
I keep 5-6 different coins but it can be more once I have more funds. And the reason why I had spread in those numbers is to make sure that I still have the chance to recover if one or two of them are at loss, I could still make gains in the other.

These things ( I mean deciding on coins to hodl) are really subjective by my calculations. Most people seem to emphazisi hodling Bitcoin like there aren't others who aren't hodling a single unit of it. I've a friend who feels Bitcoin is overrated and thus doesn't hodl any. A few hours ago, the friend shared with me a post by someone else which I'm quoting here, “Don't be emotionally attached with any of the tokens...If you must fall in love, then in my opinion fall in love with Ethereum, Bitcoin and ADA.” In my response, I told him I only hodl Bitcoin and didn't care about the others in that post.It's the same way that what one calls a credible crypto today may be a shitcoin tomorrow; not necessarily because it has a bad team or product but because a lot of people tend to judge tokens from price level and not workability and utility. For a long time now, I've been hugged on a virtually unknown coin called Cartesi. It's a crypto I know will do extremely well.

I have some Near protocol for myself and my wife, and mine has been staked to avoid selling off like I sold my ETH, Matic and some other good coins at their early stage. Near protocol is actually a layer1 blockchain with about 100k/TPs, so it's highly scalable, it my as well have an impactful growth like Solana. Should I see a bear market, I will accumulate more.

Just in case ETH was actually replaced by some of the newer protocols, which I think is extremely unlikely, it is always good to have some backup plans that are ready to fire.
You could also keep a small portion of your funds in meme tokens just in case one of them goes off, but that is very risky.

I would say that holding ETH is still a valid option and I would put BNB and LTC there as well. They are probably the most trustworthy four horsemen of the crypto world right now. Something like 50% bitcoin, 25% ETH, 15% BNB and 10% LTC would build a great portfolio for anyone who is starting newly or anyone who doesn't want to risk their money with other coins. I of course invest into other things as well but I am taking that risk, you do not have to do that, just these four would be enough.
The 4 coins you mentioned are not only very good for long-term investments, but it is a good choice for a newbie who is less knowledgeable about
the crypto world. Because BTC, ETH, BNB and LTC are indeed very safe coins for investment, the four coins have a fairly high demand, and is also

MATIC and SOLANA will be good in the future and I’m confident about it so you can invest on that as well and have a great holdings. You can also look for good Metaverse token, like GALA and AXS, they are still cheap for me and I know their potential to rise is very huge so better to take advantage with the price now. BTC is the first, ETH is the second, BNB is the third, and the next can be SOL, Matic, DOT, or other. All coins still search their position and try to compete to have a better place in the market. While the market is not good, all coins are still trying to increase, although it is hard because their movement will depend on bitcoin moves. We can see only which coin can rise higher after bitcoin start to move and reach the last ATH. However, some altcoins can move in other directions and not follow the bitcoin movement and it is hard to find that.

Simple answer, i will always look at BNB, maybe short-mid term i will look at Safepal, or a coin which used as network, still worth to look i think. There are a lot of coin which have fundamental value to look, but maybe i will stay with BNB if the option is beside ETH and BTC.

The alternative I'm looking for in altcoins for the long term is Solana, because I see Solana could be profitable if we hold it long term. It's also based on the progress that 2021 has been very good, so far after following some of the projects they've launched I've pocketed a few bucks. I think everyone almost mentions some good coins to invest for long term, ADA will be one I guess.
So it's mostly on the top 10-20 coins, solid and has the reputation already and most of them have been in crypto space for years, established themselves that's why they are on top.
And I guess it really depends on your definition of long term, if we enter a bear market, then it will be long 3 years again so that the right time to fill our bags again.

MATIC and SOL are very good I think for the future, the coin network that is currently popular is certainly very likely in the future to be much better, especially now that the community is large.
apart from that for long-term investments other than Bitcoin and ETH I think BNB is a very good choice, there is no doubting the current BNB whose price is increasing from time to time as well as all possibilities in the future which are very likely to increase in price.

Just because the projects are not as big as Ethereum or Bitcoin it doesn't mean that they are not legit, of course when there is a bear market coming then small cap and newer projects usually always suffer a lot more than BTC or ETH or the other big ones. Still i would not invest into ETH or BTC at the moment because i always have a problem to invest into a project where other people already made a x1000 with it or in the case of bitcoin even more. I just think that the room for another x10 or so is just not there anymore. I think another project that is legit and could become as big as Solana and Cardano and so on could be Radix. The mainnet is already running and there are already other projects running that are developing apps and dexes on Radix.

No one can predict what will hyped in the future, we can only ride the waves. I would say that while Bitcoin is still having it's ups and down and the market is constantly in the red, then I'd suggest investing any in the top 100 altcoins. They've proven themselves to be worth investing and they almost certainly follow the movement of Bitcoin upwards.
BNB would be my first choice though. Fast chain, cheap fee, owned by one of the best exchange in the world, there's no reason not to hold BNB at this point. Not to mention BNB gives reasonable staking reward aside from its potential to increase its price in the future.

Some exchange tokens, I think they're good for long term but not all of those exchange tokens are good to invest with. I'm talking about BNB, FTX and crypto.com. Those are just the examples of it but that doesn't mean that you should invest in all of them, you still need to make your own research about them.

I will go with MANA and DOT this coins does not have high cap compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum I would also consider investing to BNB as for now many projects are in partner with the BSC. Of course we are going to tell you to do your own research since it is your investment you wouldn't just pick a random coins that was just recommend on a forum then invest on it.

Apart from investing with BTC, ETH, BNB for now, I have personally put quite a bit of my capital into the Solana coin as I firmly believe the Solana hype will continue as their project development team seems to be continuously updating the Solana Ecosystem, so it will encourage investors' interest in keep investing with SOL coins.

Beside Bitcoin and Ethereum, it will be better to hold BNB as well. I have a good confident that this coin, based on its widely used by a lot project, that in the next few years, BNB will soar in price in the range that we might didnt imagine today.

Bitcoin only. Bitcoin is still in its early phase and it is still cheap than what it can possibly priced in fiat currency when the minting of new bitcoins officially ends. Just consider asking this same question back in 2010 and the answer would have been same, and you would have bought bitcoin in a large amount - how much possible profit would you have today if you did not sell all this while?

Many projects are having a vision, but majority lack an intrinsic market making capability, a method to spend the coins but not selling them on exchanges, like a natural burn method which can drive a demand for buying and that can grow the price organically. Not being able to spend your tokens anywhere leads to an exchange stagnation.

Everyone has each definition of "legit" so maybe you can elaborate what do you mean by it. There are people who consider a specific coin as good to them but not to others. Try to find your set of factors.
To give a few of my best coins to consider, try adding BNB to your portfolio where what would be the reason should be obvious.

They become hype but it does make sense because these coins have fundamental use-case, unlike those other coins that just got hyped because of price speculation. However, no one knows what will happen in the future therefore we can't conclude everything if the same hype will happen again.
You really need to take action in order to see the actual result of your plan. Risky as it is but that's how investing in crypto works.

I'm not sure but for me, I consider them investing in the short term as these projects seem worth it. But if we look for the long-term, better to stick on BTC and ETH, or just to add BNB on your list as these coins are really proven to be promising. I have some Solana (only) for the try but I don't hesitate to sell them anytime once their performance isn't good. I was considering them my new investment but for now, it seems working and to profit. However, it was the question of whether this will commence long-term or just end shortly.
My first choice is AVAX. I have been adding since around 62 and the daily transactions are now 75% of ETH. The network is cheaper to use from a gas fee perspective and its also much faster. The subnet within the AVAX chain is one of the best around and easily can support the development of almost any type of application. I have moved almost all my investment away from BTC and ETH at this point as I think AVAX is going to have a much better 2022 than either of the big two.
Others I am holding into 2022 are ALGO, DPR, HNT, and PLANETS. All have tremendous upside if they can execute their roadmaps.

Most coins are probably hot and overpriced right now and will have a time to cooldown. I wouldn't exactly say these two are crap coins they do have a good ecosystem if we put chain centralization issues and a great community of users.Look into Metaverse if you are planning one or two tokens in your port fot long term storage. This market could be bigger in four years.
SOL & MATIC both have use cases in the market. But you need to keep up with their updates if indeed users and developers will be utilizing their respective networks. In my opinion, BNB is one good alt to hold as it is backed by top crypto exchange as well as they have many services now. So for me, their lifespan here in crypto market is somewhat promising than most alts.

We're talking about the same project haha. That's NEAR Protocol. It's an L1 protocol but it does a lot more than the regular L1 networks like Solana and AVAX. The only thing is that it doesn't get hyped much but NEAR has all it takes to break into the top 10 and even top 5 if I'm going to be honest. Here's why I find NEAR super interesting:
- L1 network: lightening fast transactions with one of the cheapest fees you'd see in crypto.
- Sharding (currently 4 shards are live on Mainnet with more in 2022).
- Tons of projects building on Mainnet and Aurora (NEAR's L2 network) from defi, to NFTs to gaming..
- centered around a supportive community.

It's caused by chainlink was a token that didn't have utility usage while these days people are seeing utility as the main thing that must owned by what they called that as a legit tokens. All of legit coins that have unique innovation and utility usage gonna be blossoming in the future. Hype gonna to happen for short and long term. As you can see that if matic and solana are very useful to be used for the dapps. That's why both are getting hyped this time. People will be leaving the old coin that can't follow the trend in the crypto as well. Im diversify all of my money into the defi, dapps, metaverse and protocol coin. That's gonna be huge once market will be facing the next bullish trend.
Personally I would only invest in Bitcoin for the long term, ethereum is not doing badly at all, so it could also be put into consideration, thus I can't really recommend any coins other than this two, and tbh, If you really want a long term investment, then you should be looking no further than these two. There may be a few other coins out there that people are beginning to trust, but it's still going to carry a lot of risk for you, especially as you intend holding for the long period cause you could accrue profits with them and not take it, while the coin goes ahead to dump and never rises again, but as far as Bitcoin is concerned you can be rest assured that even if it plunges, it'll definitely rise back again.
Having said that, mind you that when you make this sort of enquires, users would obviously suggest to you coins that they are holding, prolly in a bid to promote/hype it, but it doesn't mean it's your best option, so even if you're seeking other coins (besides Bitcoin & eth), make sure you do your own research, and never invest more than you can afford to lose.

If you're going for high cap coins only, I'd just invest in bitcoin.
For low cap, you could make a few tiny picks of things that seem good and see if you're any good at working out what might grow (but don't put too much into it).
Everyone's heard about bitcoin, a lot get hyped about ethereum around points like these (so not a good time to buy now - especially since the staking stuff).
