In the UK, you have greater rights when you pay by credit card instead of a debit card. This is because the consumer credit act protects the credit card holder more. If you are unhappy, you can contact the credit card company and make a claim through them if the merchant is being difficult. Credit cards also have all sorts of extras such as insurance etc.
