HODLing is an art, not just a word...
that is not a question that you as a developer of a new coin should be asking. at least not this way. there are only two scenarios. you either have a good innovative idea in which case you have to do some research about each option or even come up with your own innovative algorithm and them based on that create your own coin, of course that is  assuming that your plan is NOT to create another shitcoin.

or you have done all the above but you are still not sure in which case you have to first share that "innovative idea" and what you have done already then ask for guidance. you can't just come out and ask a general and vague question as "which algorithm is best". that question is screaming a shitcoin is on the way.

The one thing they are needed is just the developer and the community. While the other things are not necessary, even shitcoins can get soaring if the community and the developer is too good.

I think having altcoins compete against each other is actually a good thing imo. There will never be one coin to rule them all
When we keep talking of competition, we would not really get what we are here for, even the founder of cryptocurrency, only created it as alternative so solve some difficult transactions and not to complete. Everyone have their own idea of how blockchain can be used to solve the challenge being faced by their company and not for competition purpose.

If you have a company that use blockchain technology as solution, and I also have another company with different ideas from your, why would I be focused on competing with you when I can use all that time to develop my own project to the fullest.

In my opinion, however, prevention and mitigation technologies will never work well enough. There’s only one way to slay this beast. We must make all cryptocurrency as we know it today illegal. There’s a lot of misinformation, rumors, and just plain incorrect information out there about cryptocurrency. In fact, I think one of the most misleading labels in the cryptocurrency market is this idea of Bitcoin dominance, which is represented as Bitcoin’s percentage ownership of the entire market cap of cryptocurrency.

1. If you want to use an algorithm other coin already has, your coin will probably be worse than the other one, since the other one had time to polish this and that and get a community.
2. Blockchain is normally just a database. A special one. I don't understand what you ask about "blockchain platform", but [1] may apply here too.

So I will not tell "we don't need another altcoin", but I will tell "we don't need another copy".
If you bring something new (and history has shown that only a different algo is not enough to get success), a complete new view, something really useful for the ecosystem, then go for it. If you only want to prove your skills, you better join an existing team.

I know, I know: "WE DONT NEED ANOTHER ALT COIN"

Now that that's out of the way, I want to explain my question. If we are defining best as the fastest, most efficient and most profitable EXCLUDING how the coin is managed, scams, shady crap etc. I am talking from a pure technical standpoint. What is the best cryptocurrency algorithm and source code that could be cloned today? Secondly what is the best blockchain platform that could be used for that cryptocurrency? I want some purely technical information on this from a purely technical standpoint rather than the standpoint of an investor or an unsuspecting victim of a pyramid scheme.
