I started with $1000 and it were all my savings. I didn't follow the advice of "use the amount you're not afraid to lose", I was veeery afraid to lose my savins. But! I believed in crypto very much. I still thonk that it's future of financial system. So.. It paid off. You should find your own way.

You should invest only the amount you are prepared to loose. I started with only $200 and I lost that all, second $200 (I've got more accurate) brought me my first $1000. So when you're starting you need luck and be prepared to loose your money

What would you say is the best amount to risk in the beginning for trading crypto? Also, which crypto, and which exchange? Appreciate your thoughts.
For the new trader, your goal should be to make all your mistakes early in your developmental process when you are trading very small positions and risking a small amount of your capital.  Early in your career, you want to survive your learning curve.  Trading too large–putting on too much risk for your account size–exposes you to potentially ruinous drawdowns and can leave emotional scars that don’t readily heal.  You want to start your career assuming you’ll make plenty of rookie mistakes and ensuring that those will not erode your capital.  One of the great mistakes new traders make is to put pressure on themselves to make a living from their trading.  Before you can make your living from trading, you first have to establish consistency and build confidence.  Short circuiting your learning process is the greatest threat to learning.

My recommendation to new traders is that they should only take trades they love! There is always a trade you can convince yourself you ‘like.’ But if you only take trades you ‘love,’ you will find yourself trading a lot less frequently and far more effectively.

you can start with few hundred dollar and try to learn market patterns. If you want to earn something free , then you can join with bounty and airdrops programs. Bounty programs pay considerable amount for their subscribers. If interested search about daneel bounty program as well as ICO.

ICO is also a very good investment option. Do your own research before investing on any ico. Daneel ICO become more stable with IBM partnership.

I'd start with 500$. After you made some gains you could cash out your initial investment so "there's no risk anymore".

The crypto boom represents the greatest wealth creation opportunity in our lifetime (at least for most of us). Go in bold, however only money you can afford to loose. Cut your daily spending, postpone large expenditures. Every 1 fiat currency unit (USD, EUR etc) in credible crypto now is most probably going to be worth many times more in fiat currency terms in a short period of time.

Every investment has a risk. As the old adage say, dont put all your eggs in one tray. Just invest what you can afford to lose. It is maybe 10 - 20 % of your monthly income.

For beginners, the optimal amount for trading a crypto currency is 100-200 $. As soon as you feel more confident in trading with the Crypto currency, you will begin to understand what news affects the market positively, and which ones are negative, then you can already increase the deposit.

The best amount for a beginner to start with can be determined by some factors. How much you can invest that is not beyond your limit. Take a quick study of the current prices and trends. But as they say, the bigger the better. However, whats important is that you can start right now and start the ball rolling. As you trade and learn the tricks and trend, then that's the time you can add more money or maybe not anymore because you have earned already from trading.

I first started with a few hundred dollars. Then add more to it as I feel more comfortable.

Me too. I believe in the saying that one should invest what you're able and willing to lose. The market is filled with great opportunities and high risks. Just don't panic. Take time, learn the space, keep up with trends, communities and developments... Be an active learner then invest more as your learning and success curve dictates.

Novice began trading application less amount can trade, the novice can reduce some of the losses, of course, you can reap the benefits, novice want most is to experience, only little amount, more than the number of transactions, to absorb experience! The most important thing is to deal with the mood of trading, control oneself mood!

Most people have it right. Most coins are in a highly speculative phase and this is fairly high risk. So if it went to 0, what would the eimpact be on the financial health of your family. If you aren't sure on the $ figure, here are some easy approach:

* How much did you spend on alcohol or coffee in 2017?
* Whatever you would be willing to spend on a weekend gambling in las vegas?

Only invest what you can afford to lose. I started out with a few hundred dollars. Regarding the best exchanges, use Coinbase to buy Bitcoin. Once doing so, transfer it to another exchange to buy altcoins. At the moment, big exchanges like Bittrex and Binance aren't accepting new registrations, so you could try Kucoin. They're an upcoming exchange and I feel they are pretty good. Good luck.

I only started trading in June last year buying around 1000$ worth of coins by the end of the year, And the hold strategy seems to be working for me since i have Quadrupled that. Though a big factor was the December rush into crypto.

Just don't invest anything that you are not willing to lose, Also don't panic sell if everything starts going red. You should never sell at a loss rather wait it out.

Take it as a learning phase for you... i would suggest invest max $500 only. Learn for 1 month and you will have a better idea if you want to invest or pull out.

You have to have Bitcoin after all , this is the start point. Buy bitcoin and exchange it with different crypto currencies.

Before buying other coins learn about the coin and see their project and what is the idea behind the currency you should target coins price <10$.

once you selected your 3-5 coins, distribute your 500$ among these and gotcha you are a crypto hero now :p

Yeah which exchanges are good it depends because not all exchanges listing all the currencies. Bittrex and Binance my first choice then CEX.IO and Coinbase.

Also prices on each exchange varies https://coinia.io/

So here you go I hope you are aware of wallet, private key etc and understood the RISKS involved.

It depends on how much you can lose, when you start trading you need to learn the basic and then you will experience losing money, if you can afford losing thousand then go for thousand, usually most of us start from 100$, try cheap coin and understand the market work, see the chart and the news to help you to choose, now we got a lot of exchanges, binance, bittrex, yobit, poloniex, tidex and others

It all depends on how much you feel comfortable with, I was given the advice of only invest what you can afford to lose at first. Whilst we all hope that wouldn't happen it's more like when you are a beginner.

The starting number will be different for everyone, I dont have much spare cash so mines quite low, whereas someone who is in a more comfortable position may feel better investing more.

I do not think that beginners should be advised to buy Bitcoin or Ether, at least not at the very beginning, as they have small capital, because the high cost of fees and the congestion of the network can be a negative experience for beginners. They need to buy some altcoin and, in the beginning, use instant exchange offices until they gain experience in the crypto world.

It has been said already.  There is no best amount  to risk because all beginners don't have the same capital. What you invest depends on what you have and what you can afford to lose. It is best not to invest all your capital at once because as a beginner your might make mistakes during trading. So, always reserve some that you can fall back to.

As others have said, only risk what you are willing to lose. But anywhere from $100-$1000 would be a great initial investment, as long as you don't want to buy bitcoin (because the transfer fees would eat way at your initial deposit).

I'm currently using Kucoin and Binance as my main exchanges, they have good liquidity, and a lot of decent coins. As for coin recommendations, I would suggest Deepbrain Chain (DBC), Oyster Pearl (PRL), Raiblocks (XRB) and NEO. All of which are available on Kucoin. Please research them more yourself, but I think all have the potential to at least double in value in the next few months.

If you want anymore details, just let me know.

That is the main question.
And the answer for a TS question at the same moment. I would invest not more then an amount that would be possible to withdraw.
My experience with a banks around the globe: it is not possible to avoid your funds be blocked  with an amount come more then $50`000-100`000 (for an active account with a turnover more than $100`000 a year). I suppose that even $10`000 withdrawal can be a headache for a most users.

Anyhow, as people have said, risk only what you're willing to lose, if it comes to that. It's easy to make mistakes in crypto, so you have to accept the fact that your money might be lost...but it could also multiple.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Best amount to risk for a beginner, depends on the beginner. If he or she has enough Money, then a few thousands of dollars would do. If the beginner has less to spend, a minimum amount of $500 to $1000 would be recommendable. Start with Ethereum, Cardano, Litecoin Monero and Dash.

I would suggest placing a certain percentage into cryptos based on your investments/savings. Also what your OK with loosing as the 'alt' coins/tokens are not only new, but volatile. Most conservative investors only place something like 5% into a specific asset class or sector.

Based on the country that your in, it may make a difference regarding the exchange you choose. Example is in the USA, you cannot use Bitfinex as they have stopped Americans from using that exchange.

Invest only as much as you is not sorry to lose. Which coin invests depends on whether you want to invest short or for a long time. Investing for a short time implies a high risk, but also a big gain. One such coin is the Flash coin https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/flash/ that exploded in the last days. Investing for a long time could be in Bitcore https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcore/
