In my country, cryptocurrency is not prohibited, but it is actively ridiculed on federal channels and in custom articles. Everything is done so that people are as far away as possible from the crypto industry

Nowadays many countries have regulated cryptocurrency. There are so many countries that have a crypto-friendly financial system for example- Germany, Japan(World's first country where bitcoin is legal), Estonia, Singapore(crypto-friendly country) and Malta.

I don't know about the best, but here in South Africa we embrace bitcoin and many online shops accept it directly. We have an amazon-like market that accepts bitcoin as well. Bitcoin is searched very often in South Africa with the most searched term being(last time I checked) What is bitcoin? But honestly, I must say that the show the big bang theory had a massive impact on the population here. Many people watch that show here and the search engine rankings for bitcoin when up during the time it airder and weeks afterwards. Very interesting to see how the media has influence over these things.

Malta, Japan, Singapore and even a third-world country, Philippines is adapting to the blockchain. In the PH, Blockchain is being recognized at a lightning speed. You can see Blockchain related projects being raised in the country.

I have found some articles on the internet about the best/friendly country for crypto. Hope this can help the OP.

Here is is a chart about the common crypto countries in the world.

Source: https://www.statista.com/chart/18345/crypto-currency-adoption/

And here is an article that says about the top 10 countries where Bitcoin ATMs installed. so Where Bitcoin is viewed well, I think it is more likely to have more Bitcoin ATMs.

In my opinion, the best countries for crypto are those with lesser regulation, you don't need to pay taxes and any transactions aren't monitored

Too many to mention.

Malta, Japan, Singapore these are the very few of them.
When assessing best countries for a cryptocurrencies business, it might also be worth to consider the banking industry's attitude towards them and consider twice the cost of living. if you're a startup this makes a huge difference, and unfortunately this is a barrier to entry in some countries like Singapore and Switzerland as it's very expensive to live here.

I think Germany is one of the most liberal and open minded countries, i have ever had the pleasure to visit. however, don’t underestimate the power of the tax man. It’s devilishly easy to trace transactions on the chain and until we have reliable privacy safeguards it remains easy for government to trace transactions.

Malta is the best, they don’t even tax Crypto-capital gains.

Although my country is very open to Crypto currency because we have a local exchange right now and we can use it to buy a lot of items,  we are still very far from countries that are listed in these reviews
https://worldfinancialreview.com/countries-where-cryptocurrency-adoption-is-highest/

I'm surprise that Turkey is leading the way all even the author was surprise, I thought are Japan and South Korea but they are not even in the top 5

i guess singapore, that country always friendly in accepting new things, whatever they are.
did u know the fact wich the most ICO office is from singapore, also Singapore sees Bitcoin as a commodity traded with a 7% tax (GST). The Singaporean Finance Minister does not use Bitcoin Cryptocurrency and Singapore's largest bank, DBS, looks more open using Bitcoin.
and, as far i know, MALTA also included. u know Malta already have the title "The Blockchain Island" due to clear regulations on the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries.

but to my knowledge Estonia is the one that perfectly suits the term Best Country for Cryptocurrency. It is the country where almost 99% of the things were digitized and integrated with blockchain technology. Even the voting is done through blockchain based platform. Down is the link for reference about the country's official website Estonia and E-Governance
Is this for real in Estonia that they were now up by 99% in terms of usage of blockchain technology? Are you living from that country?

If that's for real, that's amazing. I thought that it would be Malta or Japan that would go hand in hand with that percentage.

<…> For example, the answer to the question of which country cryptocurrencies are most common is Turkey. It is followed by South American countries such as Brazil and Venezuela.<…>
BTC is "popular" in Venezuela to some extent. Localbitcoins has it as the second country with most volume on its platform ,but for the most due to the dire situation with the hyperinflation, in an attempt to put their savings out of harms way, whilst trying to make some kind of profit to cover their basic needs. BTC ownership is treated in a hush-hush manner for personal security reasons. All in all, its popularity there, so as to say, is very distant from making it a derivative of a good situation, and falls pretty shy from a best country for crypto scenario.

Yes, cryptocurrencies are particularly common in countries with poor economies. Venezuela, such as Turkey. One of the main reasons for this is the uncertainty of not only the national currency but also the other strong currencies. So the dollar and euro is not even a safe harbor for them. Therefore, it is normal that cryptocurrencies are widespread in these countries. inflation rate in Turkey is actually not so high, according to Venezuela Smiley ratio in the nearly  40% in Turkey and there is hyperinflation as you said in your in Venezuela.

But the consequences of bad economies have been good. The worse the world economy gets, the more popular the cryptocurrencies will be. In the US, Trump is pursuing a truly crazy foreign policy, constantly threatening countries and waging a trade war with China. In this case, markets are uneasy and cryptocurrencies seem safer for this.

In fact, when we look at the history of world revolutions, there have always been very bad things just before beautiful things happened.

Maybe history will repeat itself again.

Estonia is the capital of crypto currency followed by Malta as these countries are setting benchmark for other countries to follow and yes South American countries might soon adopt blockchain to the extend which Estonia have utilized blockchain as they are already being crypto friendly countries and there was a news year saying that Venezuela might launch it's own crypto named Petro.

In fact, the answer to that question depends on what you refer to. For example, the answer to the question of which country cryptocurrencies are most common is Turkey. It is followed by South American countries such as Brazil and Venezuela.

But Asian countries are more successful in adapting cryptocurrencies. These are countries like Korea, China, Japan. They see cryptocurrencies as a serious technology and make very successful investments. And you cant see fraud, scam activities in these countries. It's a big plus for them.

Japan is one of the best countries for Bitcoin at the moment

Likewise! Japan is the best bitcoin country for me. Knowing that they’re the first one to approved bitcoin in their financial system and had the Act that states that cryptocurrency is limited to property values that are stored electronically on electronic devices, not just a legal tender.

And for the record, they’re still the leading country in the crypto world!

If to consider my own experience It doesn't matter in which country I am currently. Getting payments in BTC  I can easy convert them into cash. And of course I am not talking about 10 000 of USD but up to 5 000. In future more and more countries will accept cryptocurrencies. Just a matter of time.

Besides the info that you relayed, I’ve kept on reading on the topic and it seems so: Portugal is exempt from taxes on gains made from crypto, providing it is not a professional means of living nor a corporation. I read through another article that seems to depict it pretty well (https://criptoinvest.pt/noticias/bitcoin-impostos-portugal). The article references within a tweet from @cz_binance that got responses from Portuguese people corroborating the fact.

There’s also a reference to an article by Forbes (see https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerhuang/2019/06/24/seven-countries-where-cryptocurrency-investments-are-not-taxed/#7a120a8e7303) that lists seven countries where no tax is applied to crypto investments (* some fine print to be applied as to exactly what is exemp and under which circumstances): Germany, Singapore, Portugal, Malta, Malaysia, Belarus and Switzerland.

Imo, Brazil is very cryptocurrency investor friendly also.

You can sell up to 10k USD every month without paying any taxes, no matter how much you gained . After that, you need to pay 15% of your gains.

At first i used to thought that china is the number one leading country in crypto but i was wrong. Even if they had a lot of mining farms etc yet we often hear news from china media that they have ban the crypto. (Although i think they never ban it)
For me it is Japan who has made crypto legalize at very early stage  and we never heard any negative news from japan on crypto currencies.

Personal thoughts and opinions.

For me at the moment there are two countries that have adopted cryptocurrency and blockchain well.
Maybe these two countries are no strangers to people who have visited it.
Cryptocurrency and blockchain are familiar in the ears of the local people.

1.Ekuador
BITCOIN

Ecuador: This country is the first to use a payment system with cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, or digital money implemented by the local government.
In 2015, the State of Ecuador established its system (Dinero Electronico) to suppress government schemes in replacing old banknotes with new ones.
To replace banknotes, Ecuadorians now can save digital / electronic money.
Even more great now that all citizens can pay taxes and public facilities and taxis with cryptocurrency / digital money like Bitcoin etc, anywhere and anytime, pantastic isn't it.
You are interested in visiting Ecuador.

2. Singapura
BITCOIN

Another story with this one country, Singapore This is a very small country compared to its neighbors,
However, this country is also one country that is very friendly with Bitcoin.
This country's economy is quite great with its global business,
In Singapore Crypto / Bitcoin can be said to be goods that are sold / bought with a nominal tax of 7%, great isn't it.
The most interesting thing in Singapore, the local government does not prohibit Crypto / Bitcoin, and also the biggest bank (DBS) in the country is open and fully functional for Bitcoin users.
So if you visit this country (Singapore) you don't need to bring banknotes in your country, just save Bitcoin in your cellphone wallet and exchange it in Singapore for dollars, it's very safe easy isn't it.

My country is not bitcoin-friendly at all. A couple of years ago, Government announced that bitcoin is completely illegal and also there is punishment for the user. If We talk about the best bitcoin-friendly country then it's surely Malta. The prime minister of Malta is fond of Cryptocurrency.

There are also Japan, Singapore, Switzerland in the list of top bitcoin-friendly in the world. These countries are practicing cryptocurrency effectively.
I am in Vietnam, and my country also issued a ban on cryptocurrencies, this information came from the central bank, banning cryptocurrency transactions, about 1 year ago. However, until now, everything has been going as without a ban, the state has relaxed, even appeared many scams through ICOs or lending programs through cryptocurrencies.

For me any country that do accept cryptocurrency is good for crypto. Pinpointing countries will be very difficult cos each country has a way they're supporting and believing in cryptocurrency.

Danemark
Portugual
Andora

Accept crypto, no tax.

I'm living in France and it's ok but with a lot of taxes.

getting different mass answer from this question is sure.
someone even maybe bias about it and give support to their country I do not think it's about the country that adopted cryptocurrency but about the people that adopted the cryptocurrency, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is to unite the world as a whole and not fractional countries. So the best country that adopts cryptocurrency is the entire world

If i have to talk about my country, there are no restrictions here in Turkey, there is no tax either. However it is traced by government as it is sometimes used for illegal things.

I am sure in no more than 2 years, there will be tax implemented by government for crypto gains.

In my opinion Malta and Japan are best country for crypto. Both country are very digital-friendly and we can find a lot of merchants that accepts BTC as a payment method.

I still have some doubts on Portugal’s stand as I stated a few posts above, and I’m not completely certain that the media has not misinterpreted the part for the total. The link I referenced above (https://www.audico.pt/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/57_INFORMACAO_14436.pdf) talks about “IVA” (tax applied to purchase of goods), but I cannot (perhaps due to my limited capabilities to understand a document in Portuguese) see references to “IRS” (tax you pay based on your income).

Perhaps someone with good command of Portuguese could help clarify (@Bitmover?).

Hello,

I am not from Portugal, but I have a quite good understanding about taxes in Brazil.
What we call in Brazil and Portugual IVA is a kind of taxation called Value Added Tax.
From wikipedia:

This article explains it a bit better I think.
It is written in Portuguese language, so you still need translator, human or AI...
https://eco.sapo.pt/2019/08/27/troca-e-remuneracao-de-criptomoedas-isentas-de-iva-e-irs/

This article is poorly written, as it was clearly written by someone who doesn't understand cryptocurrency very well. But it is directed to miners:
Quote
https://eco.sapo.pt/2019/08/27/troca-e-remuneracao-de-criptomoedas-isentas-de-iva-e-irs/
"A empresa portuguesa que contactou o Fisco procura criar criptomoedas"
(The company that contact  Internal Revenue Service seeks to create cryptocurrency)

From those two documents, there is no proof that trading operations are IRS free in Portugal.

Edit:
I found a more interesting document from 2016, which clearly states that selling cryptocurrency is tax free.
Quote
https://info.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/pt/informacao_fiscal/informacoes_vinculativas/rendimento/cirs/Documents/PIV_09541.pdf
Conclui-se assim que a venda de cripto-moeda não é tributável face ao ordenamento fiscal português, a não ser que pela sua habitualidade constitua uma atividade profissional ou empresarial do contribuinte, caso em que será tributado na categoria B

(It follows that the sale of crypto currency is not taxable under the Portuguese tax system, unless it usually constitutes a taxpayer's professional or business activity, in which case it will be taxed in category B)

We can only speculate on that.
I have been in Portugal few times, and they have more relaxed attitude in general,
compared to other western countries.

How can we verify if this news is true?

1. ask someone from Portugal community
2. go in Portugal and check for yourself

I’m still not completely convinced of this tax laxation on the IRS front. I’ve read multiple sources that indicate that they do not pay taxes in Portugal for BTC gains when converting it to FIAT, but that apparently is limited to personal investments, but does not apply when it turns into a professional activity (then you need to pay taxes through your IRS, although where to draw the line between an investment and a professional activity may not be that clear).

I’m also curious as to whether the situation is “temporary” due to the lack of tighter defined regulation in Portugal, or whether the regulation explicitly covers the exemptions from IRS taxation. That's why it would be interesting for native Portuguese to help clarify the factual operational stand there.

<…>
“desculpas”, I forgot you were from Brazil and not from Portugal. Thanks for the info. It kind of looks like it is exempt from IRS from a personal investor’s stand, and the referents go back a bit more than I thought. I wonder how it is really working out in practice (they could extent their regulatory experience across the border, to my personal contempt …).

The growth of cryptocurrencies is growing day by day. Projects with so many fields appear, this demonstrates the availability of cryptocurrencies to the society we live in. However, for the countries that are accepting and friendly with it, I think that it is most likely Korea, Japan, Canada and Singapore.

Right now it would be Portugal because of their 0 crypto tax <…>
It would be nice if somebody with good command of Portuguese could clarify this statement. I’ve been reading for a while now on the matter, and it is still not crystal clear as to what is exempt from tax according to recent jurisprudence. The original document is this one:
https://www.audico.pt/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/57_INFORMACAO_14436.pdf

I’ve read through it, but I cannot fully understand the details enough to be able to assess the proper semantics. Despite what the articles say in their headlines, a lot of the document’s content verses on “IVA”, which is the added value tax. That is to say, the tax that applies when performing a purchase (i.e. when you buy any sort of goods).

On the other hand, it does not seem to verse on the “Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Singulares (IRS)”, which is the tax that you pay to the taxation office when you prepare your yearly declaration based on your income and assets. That is the important taxation to be free from, and there is a bit on confusion as to whether the above referenced pdf covers this aspect or not.

Japan could be the best compared to malta because Japan trying to bring crypto currency as one of the payment system and implementing on the areas where it is possible to do and also supporting and encouraging the users of cryptos.

I also think so. Japan is always on the news with their adoption. Plus, according to the poll, it's the most crypto aware country in the world.

There are many countries which performed well and successful rapidly. It is very difficult to say that which country adopted for crypto and best for blockchain. From my view, Malta(called the Blockchain island) is the best and Japan is my favourite one for crypto and blockchain, Besides Switzerland, Estonia, Canada, Singapore, swiden are very promising and aggressive.

Basically, which country has adopted Crypto and the Blockchain best in your opinion till now?

I can't say best but Philippines is one of the Asian countries now that starts to adapt to the blockchain technology. Many merchants now are accepting bitcoin to use as payment on their platform. Some top universities are also studying how to apply it on educational system.

It's just sad that some people here introduce crypto as a ponzi scheme giving it a bad impression to others who don't know anything about it

That really goes against the flow that the OP raised in his question though, as he is talking of crypto adoption and you are vouching for unregulated scenarios.

From a country’s point of view, a permissive inclusive crypto regulation (as opposed to a restricted or prohibiting regulation) would legally cover bitcoin tenure and allow it to be used in a clear manner for either investment purposes or commercial transactions. Of course it comes at a “cost”, which is the taxation side of it.

Unregulated countries are likely just brewing up slowly a regulation, which is exploitable in the interim, but with probably a not too long a timeframe before some sort of regulation comes forth.

What I'd prefer is a rather clear yet laxed regulation, enabling BTC to become more massly accepted.

In my opinion the best crypto country is a country where its totally unregulated  Smiley E.g. not restricted and not controlled by government. I also would say that best country for crypto is country where banks are not so controlled by tax agency or financial police. 🚔 Since if you buy bitcoin for 10k$ and withdraw it to bank account when it will cost 100k$ you can have a problem with tax officers etc. So most of developed European, Asian, American countries are not safe (you can’t avoid taxes) for crypto buying or selling.

I would recommend countries with developing economic and unregulated cryptocurrency sector like Albania, Ukraine, Belarus etc. Such countries also have partially independent banks (from government). E.g. bank should not inform tax agency or other financial institutions about your assets, deposits or withdrawals. They must do it only if law enforcement requires this. 😋

Switzerland, very good for crypto business, specially so called crypto valley in the Zug district (canton).

Switzerland so so good for businesses,

 But otherwise Switzerland not really
- very few suppliers (i've not found any) accepting Bitcoin.
- not recognised as a currency by the Govt.. It not illegal but not recognised as currency.
- for normal people no Bitcoin exchange with CHF - BTC trading pair. Swissquote has crpytocurrency gateway but only in USD and EUR.
- some Swiss start up Bitcoin exchanges have already failed and so comments about users BTC being blocked. see cryptocompare.
- on the Swiss Federal administration site it does not even return any search results for Bitcoin.

The CHF is a very strong currency reducing the need for Bitcoin, inside Switzerland at least, so adoption is probably going to be very slow. Also banking lobby including credit cards very strong so will slow down adoption / recognition. Rather than cyrpto currency they have invested in and  launched their own very good  CHF moble payment system Twint which is linked to your CHF bank account.

Yes Zug canton is an exception and you can even pay your taxes in Bitcoin there.

Also there is a good BTC cash machines network to buy and sell CHF-BTCs. OK the spread is high 7%, so  but I guess that is fair as these machines are expensive to build and maintain. https://coinatmradar.com/operator/117/bitc-sarl-bitcoin-atm-operator/

Not Switzerland, as difficult to find exchanges that trade the CHF-BTC pair. I have not found any CHF Bitcoin exchange inside Swizterland yet for normal people, look like there isa CHF to BTC gateway for high wealth individuals and financial traders Dukascopy Bank.

So you have to trade your CHF into EUR or USD which is admin heavy and costs you more for your CHF-BTC round trip fees costs. There is good network of BTC ATMs though although watch out as the CHF-BTC spread  is very high, looks like circa 7%.

During the first conclusion of the G20 meeting for the purpose of the cryptocurrency scenario hosted in Argentina 2018. Their were about 15 legal countries for cryptocurrency which are Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, south Africa, Turkey, UK, USA, Chile, The Netherlands, Singapore and Spain.
Their were 4 illegal countries for cryptocurrency are Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia and South korea
China is restricted for cryptocurrency
Argentina, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Rwanda and Senegal was the 6 neutral countries for cryptocurrency.
From the countries listed above that accepts cryptocurrency, I think they are all good for cryptocurrency, you can buy or sell whatever you want with your digital currency. But the country I fancy much is Australia cos they are the first to have cryptocurrency university

Slovenia has the biggest shopping center (Btc City) in Europe, possibly the biggest in the world where they accept cryptocurrencies. They have no tax for crypto if you have less than 100 tradable days per year.  Homeland of the oldest bitcoin exchange still operating today - Bitstamp. They even have bitcoin monument.

BTC here mean Blagovno Trgovinski Center.  Old Slovenian government at least talked they are crypto friendly, but they did little in that direction. Current government dont talk anymore.  As I said it depends on government.  It can change 100% when government change.

Japan is one of the best countries for Bitcoin at the moment, because the Japanese government has opened it's door for a Bitcoin friendly environment. They have also recognised Bitcoin as a currency, which is something that are not being done by many other governments all of the world.  Roll Eyes

Bitcoin adoption in Japan is also very high and you will find a lot of merchants that accepts Biitcoin as a payment option. I think Japan will be the Bitcoin hub of the future.  Wink

Seriously? And how's the taxation of crypto in Japan?

Lols, nobody cares about details like that Tongue
Japan is good for crypto because of shops and laws and...
Wait till you get hit with a 50% tax because it is not classified as stocks.

When people talk about best countries fr crypto loves think twice if it's not better to live in a country where there is no regulation rather than in one where you're going to be taxed half of your earnings because there are laws in place.

Crypto friendly in usage, yeah Japan, US, the whole of EU.
When it comes to taxes, I would rather go with central Africa where they don't even have a clue who to tax those things

I don't have doubts that it's japan since the created I think is from japan due to the name he used satoshi nakamoto. People from that country won't be having problem when they want to buy or sell bitcoin. To those who are in a country that also legalized bitcoin should be thankful since not all country adopted to the trend because they ban the cryptocurrency in their country and it's illegal.

If the creator was from Japan, wouldn't he use the name Nakamoto Satoshi, that's how japanese would say his name. Surname first, right? Why would you think this is the real name and not a pseudonym?

Developed countries are reaching a peak of improvement day by day and industrialized and poorer countries are becoming increasingly poor for retrograde activities. They refuse to adapt to technology and crypt. If a person or organization overcomes their obstacles, sending them to jail. Avoid the ban, but going to jail is the end of life.

Puerto Rico, tax free for crypto

Germany, no tax if you hold crypto 1 year

Singapore, one of the attractive countries for cryptos, no tax on crypto trading

Liberland, a micro state, very pro crypto oriented.

Such things change when governments change. There can be a government that have people to try t understand crypto and then when they get replaced there i no one there again. So countries that made biggest steps in past is not sure thing they will stay there.  Japan because of Mt Gox happened in their country was country that put most interest into crypto from 2015 on. They had to since a lot of money got stolen.  But that dont mean anything. Now we are in 2019.

I don't think it is. The only thing i can find about this is that a small town (not canada as a whole) is accepting BTC for PROPERTY taxes. It's also just a test trial, for a year, to see if there's actually any zest for such a payment method.

See https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2019/03/29/candadian-town-bitcoin-taxes/

Yes, this looks something like a fake fud. Even if it was real it would have been very popular on most of the social media, but I don't see anything about it being true anyways.

Or has there since been any other updates?

I don't think so after checking most of the realted updates.

Literally not US because the government wants to regulate all the possible cryptocurrency in the market and they had issued some crypto ban on other coins like the ICO projects. Aside from that the government is selective in letting people join and invest in a cryptocurrency project based by letting them join after qualifying the requirements needed in able to join like having a huge money income so as to minimize the low income earners to risk their money in the investment of crypto project based.

Though a lot of country accept crypto and runs blockchain but in my opinion best country for crypto is Sweden . As we know that Sweden is the first country to implement a full-fledged digital currency as an official. My best guess would be Japan because of payments channels intrgration and general tech-awareness. I could be very wrong tho. Some other country could surpass that already.

Some Asian countries are more crypto friendly right now compared to other countries like them. Heading the way like what Kakmakr said is Japan followed by Korea which is also on par in terms of development in both cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, it's also good to point out that Samsung which is made in South Korea has also implemented a crypto wallet with their flagship phone. I guess the most controversial I will say is China, their regulations might be pretty unclear to us until now but the physical signs that they are moving forward are still there. They have large crypto exchanges namely Huobi and OKEX they also have crypto mining rig manufactuers like Bitmain.

No doubt it's Malta and that's not even debatable. Untill Malta starting showing positive signs towards the adoption of blockchain technology, I never knew it was a country. Malta has partnered with a Blockchain Startup to Improve Public Transportation in the country, it has also rolled out a plan announce by their Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat in 2017 towards Ambitious Strategy for Blockchain Technology also Malta has attracted reputed cryptocurrency exchange into opening local offices in the country like the likes of Okex, Binance etc due to their blockchain freely laws and regulations. Also their government have showed support to the numerous summits and conference held in Malta over the years, the list can go on and on but with the few reasons I have listed it's safe to say Malta is the best country to live in as a Blockchain (Bitcoin) enthusiast.
