What about Chinese exchanges/platforms? What are the biggest ones?

The biggest Chinese exchanges are BTC China, OKCoin, Huobi and LakeBTC, but there are also some accusation of faking trade volumes for those Chinese exchanges.

+1 for localbitcoins.

It is very easy to use and the whole trade can be done in minutes with bank transfer within the same bank. Smiley

Never had any problems with Localbitcoins, BTC-e is another decent exchange though it can be a bit of a pain transferring money depending on where you live. For trading alt currencies I usually go for Cryptsy or Bittrex (used to use Mintpal til they got hacked).

coinbase is very easy if you are US and need to buy.  Takes time to set up, but good long term.
