3 GPUs is maximum you can afford for this budget.
But the efficiency of such build is quite small
Youll be returning your investments for a long time, is it worth it?

Yes, I was thinking about three or four Sapphire 5830 Extremes for $139 each.

I really dont think so you can find Sapphire 5830 Extremes for $139 each
If you increase your budget to around $200 that will give you more options

I haven't done the research for the 5770 but you also need to take into account the megahash per dollar spent on the server. I know when you build a rig with 4 5850's it gives you more megahash per cost of the server then a 5830 rig. Unfortunately I couldn't afford to invest enough money to get a 4x5850 rig so 5830 had to suffice.

i can get 328 with the one at newegg for 109.
whats your set up? I only get 320 megahash per 5830

according to this the [5770 is best over all if you include electricity](https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsSwOT3E1XTGdGtpa1BQcmJLN2x6TG1MRmxzb29BeFE&hl=en_US&authkey=COWC8toK#gid=0)

the 5830s arent bad even at 140.. looks like you can get  5850 for 165 that is 10% faster for more than 10% more. it is quite a bit better when elec is added though but you still have to find them at that price.

If you download the spreadsheet you can manipulate the number and see which is best on a personal bases.

one thing to note it says 288.62 for mh, i can get 328 with the one at newegg for 109. and pretty sure this chart was made before the 3% trick and those numbers are most likely stock out of the box numbers. but play arround, it will give you a good idea

You do realise that the only reason a 5830 is good is because it costs 109. A lot of cards have a better megahash per dollar ratio then a 5830 at $140

Not true. Please link us to these cards that are better. 58xx cards are the best for this purpose.

You'll only be able to fit three cards (without the use of risers) on that mobo, since 5830's take up two slots.

For $700, three or four cards might not be possible since you'll need a good power supply to power them. Cheap low watt power supplies have the possibility of ruining hardware if they're running over capacity.

Yup just get decent CPU/Ram and put most of the money in gpu. You don't need much else to get some good hash rates
