nvidia rig is easier for start, because u dont need to mod bios of the cards
would start with 1060.
a good modded/configured amd rig is alot more work, especially if you are complete noob.
if u go for amd buy rx 580 8gb or vega
you dont need 8gb vram now for some algos, but who knows what will be in future

Assuming you're a technical guy who knows how to build/assemble at least a home Computer desktop, I will recommend GPU mining for you. build a rig with decent motherboards with more PCI-e slots and high rated PSU, and a premium GPU cards, AMD Rx 570,580 or vegas series and NVIDIA Gtx 1060,1070,1080 series. you should now at least know how far the 2k$ could go, for profitability on this day. check online calculators such as below.
