My advice (and this is speaking from experience as this is what I did) is buy as many cheap 5870s, 5850, and maybe just maybe if you can still find them 5970s.

I try to get 5870s for under $200 and so far I've succeeded. But I bet later on supply will dry out and 5850s will be the way to go. Still try to get them for as cheaply as possible this way you'll recover your hardware investment costs as early as possible.

I paid $220 for a used 5870 Vapor X and $150 for a new 5850 Extreme from Tiger Direct.

Combined rate is ~800 mhash/s

Get a used 5850 for $150 or less

I currently have crossfire 5850 in my system and with a decent overclock can reach about 660MH/s

Is there any other card I should buy?

depend budget.
if you PSU can hold it, buy 5970 or 6990 - actually two GPU's in one package. $600-$700 each.
or 2x 4x 8x of these monsters.
or wait for 7xxx GPU's [late 2011 fall, probably].

for 220 you can get 5870 usually.
6950 slightly better for gaming, cuz improved rendering back-end, but VLIW4 shaders itself show disapointing performance - ~20% more power hungry with ~11%power rist[from 1/5 units more, ie 20%].
but "in short": yes, its worth it, with decent warranty in retail package.
