Awesome Miner works really well for controlling your miners when you are remote or travelling.

I use teamviewer as well when away from the machines. Very easy to set up. I use MS RD when I'm on the same network because it performs better.

When I'm out of town I set my machines to one pool and then monitor that pool over the internet. Controlling is another matter. Linux is like hitting the easy button (although that is literally the only thing that's easy in linux). You remote in to linux using SSH, which is a simple terminal program that has some really cool (and convenient) security features built in.
They do make SSH servers for windows (eg Putty) and clients for smartphones and whatnot. If you're cool with the command line, that's one option.

If you mine zcash or Bitcoin slush has android and ios apps but they are only good for monitoring your workers/rigs. If you are using windows you can use teamviewer on your phone to then connect to the rig to troubleshoot. If you're using nix on your rigs I'm sure there's ways to connect remotely form your phone but I'm not familiar with how. But I monitor my rigs mining zcash on slush pool's android app and then use teamviewer's android app to connect to a rig when there's a problem.
Actually if you use a pool that sends emails when a worker goes down you don't have to use slush to alert you to a problem you just have to keep an eye on your email which isn't fun when on vacation but if you don't want to mine zcash it's an option.

OK, so I set up remote desktop. Turns out I don't need MS account for it, however the setup was a bit complicated since, I will not be on the same network with my desktop (so I needed to enable port forwarding).
Anyway all is good and all, but I just realized that I won't be able to access my remote desktop if my router reboots (in case of a power outage for example) because it's public IP will change every time it resets. Is there a way around this issue?

Look into teamviewer, your get a login and password from the application. And you don't have to worry about ip addresses.

Well my miner rigs do not have any display, I've simply connected all with my RD Client and see their progress through it whenever I want, which is pretty fun too.
Maybe that's what you should do, but I'm not sure if it needs the same internet connection or not.
BTW, why'd anyone avoid Microsoft account in 21st century?

I'm going on a vacation and I was wondering what's the best way to control/check on my miner using a Android phone or an iPad?
My miner is running Windows 10, and it has an offline user account.
I think there is an app on the Play Store (android) called RD Client that can connect you to your WIndows 10 PC, however I think it needs a Microsoft account for that, which I would rather avoid...
