You can as far as I know but the point is they have the power to force an update on you and prevent that whenever they want, steam is another example of this, it works but everyone thinks its this totally benign and useful piece of software when they could very easily just mess with anything they like and restrict you, in fact they do this regularly with some games and of course, the offline mode is a load of bollocks, I admit though I don't have much experience with itunes because I'm not that into music but I've heard complaints from my dad lol.

My main point is, why would you risk all that money etc. if at some point you won't even be able to backup your own copies on your own computer when something like Bittorrent is available? People don't consider what would happen if their servers ever went down or if the companies went out of business, you're paying full price for a product which is essentially a rental copy.

DRM = Digital Rights Management, it's stuff they use to prevent you from copying things and sharing it with people, lately it's become an absolute obsessions for publishers and big companies like Apple.

You can't share music with iTunes?

DRM?

I think I'm already in too deep with regards to apple products, no use in switching I think. I'm open to change though

I'd say it depends entirely on how well the third party software is designed, a well designed or properly coded piece of software will work on anything but unfortunately no matter how good a piece of software is it will always get fucked up by restrictive DRM which is why I tend to avoid the whole shit storm that is Apple anyway.

Is to not download any third party software to do the job. If its an apple product, use apple software. Less problems.

True or false?

Or should one even bother with a music library and stream only?
