The adventurer Tim Draper said that Bitcoin would become a more dynamic tool than Skype, Hotmail and would be even bigger than the Internet.

Daily purchases will be the future of Bitcoin usage, Draper anticipated. “In five years you are going to try to go buy coffee with fiat currency and they are going to laugh at you because you’re not using crypto,” he said, also noting that he believed there would reach a point where people are no longer interested in holding fiat currency.

At the moment, positive news about bitcoin are rising, with a lack of voices saying "Bitcoin is a bubble".
Many banks have begun to suggest the possibility of accepting Bitcoin and they will only try to regulate and limit illegally activities.

Do you think Bitcoin will become bigger than the Internet?

For me it's the blockchain technology that is bigger than the  internet not the bitcoin. Bitcoin is just one of the applications that runs using blockchain. I really do believe that the best innovation is not bitcoin but the blockchain itself. There are still lots of applications even banks that can benefit using the blockchain technology. Bitcoin is nothing without blockchain but blockchain can live even without bitcoin.

For your question regarding bitcoin will become bigger than the internet the answer is no since the internet is the main key of this all. If there's no internet then you can't access your bitcoin and internet can stand even bitcoin or the blockchain is not yet introduced. Internet may be cheap but when it comes to usage and importance, for me internet is still bigger than bitcoin and blockchain. Its just my opinion though.

Umm Bitcoin is (or at least it aims to be) a currency. How is it going to be more dynamic than Skype or Hotmail? They're barely even comparable lol. It's not comparable with the internet in this sense either, because the internet is basically a platform that Bitcoin runs on.

But yeah, while I can't wait for the time when I'll be able to use Bitcoin to buy whatever whenever, I don't buy the 5-year window. Too optimistic in my opinion.

Daily coffee purchases in Bitcoin with transaction fees = big no. Sorry Mr. Draper but I am not impressed  Grin I will stick to my banksters card and continue to speculate with Bitcoin like yourself and everyone else  Cool

And newsflash, I can load Bitcoin money onto my fiat banskers card like right now. Mind-blown  Shocked

how many cups of coffer you buy every day with your "bankster cards" now? Cheesy

and it is interesting to see a legendary member who has been around for years who still thinks when we talk about buying it is only buying coffee and there is nothing else in the world to buy!
I guess all these purchases that are happening, all the merchants, all the huge stats that bitpay reports of million dollars processed every month are all fake because you can't buy coffee!
not to mention that we have lightning network now and soon using it you can buy your damn coffee without fee and in an instant Tongue

For now I still doubt it can beat the internet, Bitcoin still need so many step and improvements to become more popular, the government also hasn't set any clear regulation and some people also misunderstood about Bitcoin, so Bitcoin still got so many homework to handle

I think its not bitcoin usage depends on internet connection and bitcoin cannot work without internet.Theres no need to compare internet and bitcoin because they are different from each other.Everyone knows about internet in which a tool that we can access different websites, even google, facebook, and all search engines and social media sites depends on the internet  on the other hand bitcoin is a currency that has just started in its way to development that can make every person to profit.

I think what he meant is that bitcoin will have a bigger impact than the Internet, hotmail or skype. We all know how those 3 revolutionized in terms of communication. With the proliferation of internet around the world, we can send emails, talk to our families across the globe and then skype added  the icing on the cake, not only we can send email instantly, we can speak to them and see them real time. So maybe Tim thinks that bitcoin or crypto will have a drastic impact in terms of money, how we deal with it.

Wow, I just know that bitcoin only stops at global payments and fast. The rarity and popularity of bitcoin in should be the value for bitcoin. If the article says that Blockchain is bigger than the internet, I totally agree with that. Blockchain applies to all areas of life and we can see ICO projects and development projects. The future of blockchain has been designed, it is a smart world, modern and automatic. We have projects related to AI, 3D-VR and IOT

At the moment, positive news about bitcoin are rising,

that's the thing i hate the most about the news!
they change their attitude with the wind. if the price is rising all they will ever publish is positive news, big speculations from random or known people saying price will reach {a big number here}, and lots of good news. and when price is not rising they are only publishing from other random or known people saying how price will reach {a small number here}, and lots of negative news.
and in both cases 90% of what they publish is exaggerated bullshit.

I don't think OP is asking if Bitcoin can physically and technically be bigger than the internet, he's asking if Bitcoin will have a larger, more profound effect on society like the internet did.

I think by 'bigger' than the internet he means it will change society more profoundly than the internet. It will change how we bank, how we work - it will continue to mint millionaires, shift power, open up possibilities that were not there before. I agree.

It's just semantics, but isn't any impact that Bitcoin has by extension attributable to the internet as well? After all the internet is what is enabling Bitcoin in the first place. Did anyone ever say that email will become bigger than the internet? Or that the world wide web will become bigger than the internet?

Maybe he meant to say that Bitcoin will become bigger than the world wide web. That would still be a contentious statement, but at least it would make sense. Saying that Bitcoin will become bigger than the internet, however, is a meaningless statement that only makes for a nice headline and nothing more.

Bitcoin by itself, probably not. Bitcoin as the leading player in an all star blockchain team, close call. It really depends on how you are defining 'bigger'. The internet has had such a huge impact on every aspect of our now daily lives, that it would be almost impossible to see anything else having the same impact. Flight, the telephone, vaccines etc. All have made a huge impact over the last 100+ years, but they are now seen as the norm. The internet is slowly succumbing to this too, so if 'bigger' means initially making a massive impact and then just something we tell our kids how we lived before it, then yep.

Bigger than Skype, Hotmail? Sure, Bitcoin is a revolution in the world of money, but bigger than the Internet? I think that's an overstatement, because Bitcoin is part of the Internet, and it would be nearly impossible to operate without it, because it needs a globally connected network to keep nodes in sync. Last year Blockstream has launched a satellite that allows people to use Bitcoin even without the Internet, but we're still far from operating independently from the Internet, so until it will be possible, Bitcoin will not be bigger than the Internet.

While I love Tim Draper and the Bitcoin ties he wears, I don't think that will realistically happen in five years. I do think this is possible though if Bitcoin pops all the other financial bubbles (Stocks, bonds, real estate, credit, etc) and causes a massive influx of capital into the network, causing Fiat to become worthless in the process. What would this event be called? Global hyperbitcoinization? If that happens, Bitcoin would definitely become bigger than the internet. Wait... Is it even possible for Bitcoin to become bigger than the internet when it is on the internet itself? This is getting too inceptiony...

nope

physics
bitcoin needs the internet. if bitcoin was to become bigger than the internet then it would end up utilising every website, every IP and a new international communications platform would be needed to cope with bitcoins communication overflow.
also not everyone with the internet will have bitcoins.

bitcoin can become bigger than many services that utilise the internet.

analogy
you cannot have a bedroom thats bigger then the house its built within.. however it can be the biggest bedroom in the house

Instead of acceptance, hasn't most banks actually discouraged people to use Bitcoin and some even outright banning the users whose transactions are associated with it?

Bitcoin is a great concept but possibly not better than the internet. How can something that is dependent on something else be bigger than the thing that it is dependent on? Internet came as more of a new technology for people in the early years. While Bitcoin is quite revolutionary in terms of the various kinds of things that is made possible, its not as impactful as the internet.
