Amazing speech by Ross Ulbricht and if you listened carefully you cold notice that he repeated one phrase several times - I want to you to understand what it means to lose your freedom.
Ross is just an example but we are all in danger of losing our freedom, maybe not in real cage like him but certainly in some digital cage, because we are giving away our freedom and privacy ourselves by trusting governments.
We see what government system did to Ross, but many people are still trusting that same system that is sponsored by big tech, banks and mentally retarded rich individuals.
If you are part of this corrupt system you can do anything you like, steal, kill, rape and you will never go in prison if you stay loyal to the system, but if you are not a part of it you can go to jail for making a website or speaking the truth.

I knew that speech was going to be deep and sad but never thought I'd cry a lot [especially for the first half]. It's quite annoying to see [repeatedly] a "broken system" giving punishments of that extent to someone that had [and still has] a completely different motive than the one they're portraying [things like this is what make me lose my faith in humanity].

Yeap. I took the whole day off to watch the whole conference, and that definitely was something. I expected to end the streaming session with me being really excited about the future, but it ended up with me staring at my screen for a good 5 minutes. Messed me up for sure.

I'll end my post with some of the lines from Ross's speech Cry

Quote from: Ross Ulbricht https://youtu.be/6wRdr33D36Q?t=530
I'm a non-violent first-time offender but if nothing changes, I'll spend the next few decades in this cage, then sometime later this century I'll grow old and die. I'll finally leave prison but I'll be in a body bag.
Quote from: Ross Ulbricht https://youtu.be/6wRdr33D36Q?t=1194
The caricature they created was a violent drug lord that is not who I am, that is a lie. It's a lie that was carefully crafted to justify keeping me in this cage until I die. It's a lie designed to turn you against me, to turn your heart off. They lied, it's on the record. They cheated, that's on the record. They stole, two of them went to prison over to doing. They hid evidence, that's on the record. They destroyed evidence, that's on the record. They planted evidence, that's on the record. At one point, they were looking into how they could give me the death penalty; They wanted to inject chemicals into my veins that would stop my heart.
Quote from: Ross Ulbricht https://youtu.be/6wRdr33D36Q?t=1425
The irony is that I made silk road in the first place because I thought I was furthering the things I cared about; Freedom, privacy, equality but by making silk road, I wound up in a place where those things don't exist.

I think everything is learned by comparison. It is unlikely that this person thought the same while outside the prison, but when there was time to think about everything and of course there is some truth in these words. We always do not think about how good our life is when everything is in order and nothing hurts. But as soon as something starts to hurt, we quickly understand how good life was before. This is natural and I understand the reaction of the audience, which I think was stunned by such a statement because it contrasts so much with their reality.

Injust sentence for someone who has simply created a website. Imagine pedophiles sometimes receive 4 years with parole for multiple offenses.
Pedophiles do not pose a threat to the US printing press, and it was not they who gave the metaphorical slap in the face to the Obama administration and the head of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in particular. If you had read between the lines Ross's last appeal to the judge, then you would have understood to what extent he was an individualist, who considered "the inviolable right to freely dispose of himself, a right that is inherent in any person from birth". At that time, he used all the means available for this [for what?] ... so who knows where Bitcoin would be now, if Ross had not done what he did.

Dude had it real bad for creating a platform. Sure, some people might say that he did deserve some jail time, but a double life sentence + 40 years without parole??
That's not on me, if I were part of the trial, one life sentence could be enough but they saw it as a really grave offense. That no parole is a bullshit, they just put it there so the people who ask for justice will be satisfied. Ross just needs to do the right thing to every person he sees in his time and he will probably be awarded with a good conduct which could help him in parole hearing.

We certainly do always take our rights and freedom for granted, although it is quite often that we don't get them as promised. He seems to having wanted freedom. And the result is exactly as I'd imagine in our modern world. The more freedom you seek, the more injust the system will be.

If you don't want to do the time then don't the crime right?

Surprisingly Ross Ulbricht manages to get a 30 minute message out even while being in maximum security prison.

Scary how after listening about his experiences, that we'd immediately realize how we're totally taking our freedom for granted. Even those really really small things like having access to your family and friends. Just speechless. Even the crowd was quiet after the message.
