All people are waiting for the season of altcoins. And in the market it happened so that everything goes exactly the opposite of expectations. Altcoins are still a dead thunderstorm for a long term, except for the top 10.
The dead will surely rise back to life when altcoin season come and I am sure it will happen like the thief in the night which is why we need to continue preparing for it and holding on to it. All I am just waiting for now is to see the sign that bitcoin would consolidate and once bitcoin starts to consolidate, then it would be clear that altcoin season will start very soon.

It might not be this year anyway, because the last quarter of this year will be full of bitcoin fluctuation and we will still have series of corrections, I think it would be until the halving of bitcoin next year before altcoins can start their own season when bitcoin is going sideways and I am sure that the coins that would be affected would be much more than the top 50 coin in the coinmarket.
There would always having an altcoin season but the question is on when it would happen? Retracing bitcoins price from 30-40% is possible but we cant see this price drop
if theres no such news and eventually this do happen recently on that 2017 and 1st quarter dump of 2018 and talking back on past years retracements.
For now when it comes to altcoin investment decision then it will just matter on which one we would accumulate on.

i wouldn't be so sure about that. if that were true then we should have had at least 20,000 altcoins currently listed on coinmarketcap.com instead of 2,000! the rest of 18,000 altcoins did in fact die on previous pump and dump seasons (during the dump). and this past cycle is no different from other times either.
so far in 2018 and then in past months of 2019 we have seem the death of about 600 to 700 altcoins which has brought down the number of them on CMC down drastically and also the total market cap.
many of the big coins will also follow the same thing but the difference is that they won't die as fast. they will resist but won't ever be pumped the same way.

the movements still look slow, but bitcoin still has better prices than last year. this year we can see bitcoin moving more dynamically, even though it's not so good right now. but believe me bitcoin will fix it all.

if btc retraces 30 to 40 percent when it hits 13k to 15k what will happen to alts will they fall as well or will they go up or how would it play out? only long term players please..

BTC starts to retrace. I am not waiting for a dramatic price drop (against BTC) at the alts. BTC dominance is higher than 65% at the moment and this number is nearly the same in December 2017 before the alt bull run.

During the latest bull run, Bitcoin dominance was over 60%, and people continued to work with altcoins. A bunch of them reached higher at their history prices. If BTC jumps to 15 thousand this time, most reliable altcoins that are in the top 20 of them, will follow their Father. I guess that Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash can be the leaders of this race. Later, other tokens will join them.

If there is going to be any major retrace now, I think the highest we can see would be $7k, and if I see this value again, I am ready to sell all my altcoins to buy it, so I believe many investors will consider this too, which will indirectly affect altcoins and make them decrease further against the increase that you assume it will cause to them.

We already had a 15% + retrace from high of 13 700$ . We went up extraordinary fast and we can go down as fast.
Going down to your smallest prediction - 7k would be a 49% correction from 13,7 k.
This is not impossible , since 6000 region has been a important resistance level over the years.

I think we can very easily hit 10k now as next real resistance on the way down.

I have been in the cryptocurrency industries for over 5 years now, and I don’t think altcoins market responds to surge when Bitcoin retraces, Bitcoin retracing will only boost Bitcoin itself because more investors will come in at that time, in fact such huge retraces usually causes FOMO because people will see it as a very cheap price to buy against the next surge and ahead of the next bull run.

I see growth for the price of bitcoin very fast and I predict for this year it can reach $ 15,000 but I still doubt the altcoin is still not moving to follow the price of bitcoin and is still slow whether investors sell their altcoin assets to buy bitcoin, this is still a question for I

The answers probably only pure of speculate because we never know what happend to altcoins when bitcoin break $15k barrier or even reach again to $20k above but maybe there are some of altcoins dumped or maybe some of major altcoins such as Eth or LTC will bounce back or hit new ATH but until now only the price of bitcoin rapidly increase and unfortunately most of altcoins still lagging

when bitcoin reaches 15k usd i think that was the time that altcoin start to move upwards because if we based on the 2017 scenario we can see that alts follow the trend of btc when btc reaches above 15k usd  but sure there are still alts and toks that will be left behind but those coins are not really that usefull  . right now im happy to see that btc reaches another thousand usd  . im still hopping for more to come  .

you have a funny prediction,,
because the Gap between 13K to 15K is about 2K buddy,, and thats is more than 10% from 15K
for me the next target from bitcoin price is about 15K and after touch it, maybe a huge profit taking actions will come, but the price of bitcoin will not go under 13K usd  Wink

take it easy the price of bitcoin later this year will return to the price of $20k, it has been seen from the bitcoin price movements are very fast, and when you trade in bitcoin you must be patient because if you are impatient and easily panic then you will feel sorry for selling bitcoin at cheap prices.

If this is expressed through equations, then the current initial wave has slightly different initial values of the variables.
Namely. Until spring 2017, Bitcoin held about 80% of the market. Now it is 50-60%. In addition, many new altcoins have now appeared, some of which are dying and some occupy a market share. Now the behavior of altcoins may be different.

"The equation changes completely" was only an expression...

However, although I don't know the number well, you're right: most of the information on how the altcoins behave is based on what happened in the past, when the market looked different: the altcoins were more alive.

Now the overall situation may differ (although some altcoins are still very strong).

Again, we can't really tell what's going to happen next, but if we are going to based it on 2017, the alts also had a good run when bitcoin was going to the moon.

I'm not saying that it could repeat the same pattern, but if we are going to be optimistic here, it's possible that some alts in the top 10 will go up at at least go half on its previous all-time-highs.

30% retrace is very real, if you take a look in the past 30 percent was normal after some time of bullish movement.

The big Alts usually do the same 30% percent when BTC goes thru its correction. The small alts can drop much more, because the volume is very low for them.

The best thing would be to sell and take your profit but the hard thing to do is to , " catch " that moment.

Depends because this market is unpredictable and heck you wouldn't know if those funds being pulled out would go mainly with alts
or would just simply converted or being stored on stable coins. No one would ever know but those kind of percentage retracement is possible.
So if you are an investor then play out smartly if you do like to survive into this unpredictable market.

I'm thinking it will go back under 10k before it hits 13k or 15k. I do believe bitcoin will hit a new all time high by the end of the year though.  The main reason being the reward halvening.

A question that no one could actually gonna explain since we all do is to speculate but if you are here in the market before, you will know how those altcoins will going to behave when Bitcoin is changing its volatility. The way i see the chart is that they really push it too hard to attain that $15k as soon as possible and we all know that if this is continue to grow there will be a massive correction that will be going to happen again.

Most time Bitcoin and crypto coins don't follow those Fibonacci principle and some time were you expect retracing that is when another strong pump occur! I think it is speculative based and the more good news we heard the more profitable it becomes. Therefore, I will said that now is a strong bullish time and from my experience in trading in this market we should not expect a dip retracing especially when everyone is speaking good of the cryptocurrency market. The altcoins are going to recover and I expect that most of them are going to remain strong this time too.

Alts seem to get funded well only when Bitcoin is "loaded" and the money flow into starts to slow down.
When Bitcoin jumps alts fall behind; when Bitcoin falls, alts also fall, sometimes even more than Bitcoin.

So for your use case (bitcoin falling) I'd expect the altcoins fall. However, if Bitcoin will not fall and will only slow down, then the equation changes completely...

Some of the altcoins will fall but the other altcoin will increase because not all altcoin is down when bitcoin price increase. Besides that, I am sure that there is a strong altcoin which can increase following with bitcoin trends. But yes, we will see a big red candle in the market because maybe almost half of the coin list in one exchange will get a red candle.

As far as I know when bitcoin rises rapidly, bitcoin rises very slowly. but when bitcoin goes down, the altcoin also drops rapidly and even exceeds the decline in bitcoin. I don't know why like this, I see a pattern like this for the past 2 years.

I'm long term to bitcoin and Ethereum. I know understand the feeling of you guys who are mostly holding alts on your portfolio's. If bitcoin dominance keeps on increasing, btc pairs won't be able to catch up if you are a day trader because it will just increase continuously.

And for those full time alt holders, as you may understand that alts are stumbling down but that doesn't mean it will forever. If you analyze the alts, many of them are following bitcoins increase although the dominance is against alts.

so far every time without fault, each time bitcoin has a small drop like 10%, the altcoins get dumped hard for at least 10% but many of them get dumped more up to 20% and more.

so if bitcoin were to drop 30% to 40% then altcoins must drop at least 60% to 80%.

in any case 40% drop for bitcoin is impossible at this point.
30% drop is highly unlikely
20% drop is more likely only if we reach $15000 in less than 10 days. otherwise if we slowly get there in a couple of weeks there is no way we could see big drops.
other than that i wouldn't count on anything bigger than 10% drops for bitcoin.

if you are a long-term player, please look at the price history of other Alts in coinmarketcap, of course you will find answers when they will grow up with a new trust from the investor, this will take time and maybe you can go to coinmarketcap.com to see previous history in 2015 or 2016 the prices of alts and bitcoin
We all know that in 2017 is the peak price of bitcoin, so I'm assuming 2019 is the same as in 2015, hopefully helping you find answers or visiting my thread here

I don't think that case will happen. Because at the beginning of 2018, we saw the disastrous drop of BTC and Dominance of it fell to 48%, which is the lowest level.
and then, ETH and other altcoins also plummeted due to the excessive losses of investors.
But the truth is, altcoins are about to be pumped strongly because the price of BTC has risen too high.
This is the time for us to buy more altcoins and hold for 3 more weeks.

BTC is moving parabolically at the moment. Before the finish of this movement, alts will not start their bull run. And while BTC moves dramatically (upside or to the downside no matter) alts are always going down.

It's difficult, isn't it?

Normally once a big BTC rise exhausts itself, alts take over and start to soar. Whether that will happen this time or not, we don't know. Everything in crypto is guesswork. We can just use our knowledge and a study of past history to try to make a better guess, but fundamentally we are all still guessing.

Personally I think BTC will continue to rise and alts will start to rise with a higher % increase. and then once BTC stops I hope it will level off so we can establish some solid support. But there we go - I'm guessing, and I'm already starting to mix cold analysis with messy emotional considerations...

Now current Bitcoin Dominance has reached 59.8%. if its price goes up to $ 13k but Dominance is down, it means that the amount of money poured into the market focuses on altcoins. And what is certain is that altcoins will go up very high and I really want that case to happen. I'm holding quite a lot of ETH. Grin
